Sorry to break up this grouchfest...
Sorry to break up this grouchfest, but does anybody know if and where the US Mint published actual production figures for various coins? I know the figures for statehood quarters are available on the website, but what about silver american eagle proofs, etc. I would like to verify how many were actually produced in the first month and over all. In addition, it might be nice to know the production number limits. The mint gives numbers on the website for some
BU as a grade is BS on modern coins!
You may be correct in the true sense that BU is a grade, but in my opinion BU is a numismatic term not a grade on modern coins, otherwise the US Mint is also an official grader, as they advertise as "never been circulated". Personally, I don't need NGC to tell me BU on a coin that was just purchased from the mint as never been circulated. I believe this designation as a grade only becomes relevent to coins not purchased in the modern error, but that's jus
Hear are a few observations from a new collector just trying to understand the correct way to go about starting this interesting hobby with his son.
It seems to me that we have little chance to compete with the large dealers and TV sales houses when it comes to the U.S. Mint. The Mint appears to cater to those folks first and whatever scraps are left go to us. A perfect example would be my purchase of San Francisco commemorative proofs from the U.S.Mint (it?s not that I really think commemorat
Start Saving!!
I guess I'll just get another full time job to support my coin collecting addiction...ahem...I mean hobby!! Thanks, but I'll pass on the Presidents and their wives.
I'll pass too!!!
At least the first hags are gold. I too will pass on the pres. coins and focus on eagles as I always have. the mint is trying to do for dollars what they did for the state quarters.
I think I can find something better to do with $3000!
The whole program stinks! I don't like that they eliminated Liberty! I don't like that they relegated "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum" (not to mention mint marks and dates) to the sidelines! I don't like the way the mint released to the TV shows all these coins before their own announced release date! I don't like the way NGC is handling these "First Day of Issue's" which, you can buy from Armchair TV network prior to the offici
ONE HAND WASHES THE OTHER
For TV shows to get thier coins graded before all others is expected! After all SHOP AT HOME sings the praises of NGC as being the offical grading company of the ANA and the PNG. Tons of free advertisement for NGC. To them the only other coin grader is PCGS, all others are encapsulating services. You can see how they cut up the other coin shopping networks who offer coins graded by an other service. So to put it blankly, wouldn't you give priority service to those
Apparently some businesses can cut in line.
Follow Up to my original post, For a coin that's not being released until 02-15-07 how is it that NGC Certified these coins already 1947986-037 & 1947986-025. There already for sale on TV at an inflated price of course. These Dead Presidents really stink, I think I'll pass.
How would a private citizen even begin to attempt to regulate the exchange of currency? Perhaps policing is a poor term... but the goal is not regulation.. its education.
There is nothing illegal about educating the public on how to protect themselves from fraudulent salespeople. The type of goods sold is really irrelevant. It could be any widget. Think of this more as a Consumer Report online.. a hidden camera at repair shop where they are charging customers for things that arent really wr
has anyone found out where we can add in the 2006 gold buffalo's into our registery sets?
has anyone found out where we can add in the 2006 gold buffalo's into our registery sets?
They sure dont make it easy. To take advantage you need to find a financial institution that will actually receive the coins on day 1..
then get your butt in gear to purchase the coins... package the coins and ship the coins to NGC (using overnight service) to get them there in time for this designation.
Seems like an awful lot of trouble.

ONLY US FEDERAL AUTHORITIES MAY REGULATE CURRENCY EXCHANGE LEGALLY! STATES MAY NEVER EVEN CHARGE SALES TAX!!!
Hi
I read all these posts on policing, and it is needed. However, there are vital considerations I am scarcely qualified to say anything about, but feel need mentioning. Reason is that silver and gold, real money, were replaced by FIAT money, and now we must deal with it fairly. What is fair, and what is legal. More importantly, what is NOT LEGAL.
First, dealers are preying on
How is this possible? Release Date 2-15-07, NGC submission Date 2-16-07 ??
I just finished reading the NGC requirements for submitting the George Washington $1 Presidential Coin. The coin will be available for orders from the US Mint on 02-15-07 and NGC requires the coin be received at their facility by 02-16-07. How is that possible? I called the US Mint and asked them, they had No Answer. I asked the customer service rep. how the big TV Shop for Outrageously priced coins already had poss
American Silver Eagle
On Wednesday 7 February 2007, I received my 2007 MS-70 Silver Eagle, Early Releases. I now have a complete American Silver Eagle set with each date having a Pedigree!
If you have taken a peak, looksy, glance at etc; at my sets you will see that I've never met a pedigree I didn't like!
Collectors like to have the best, only, rarest, most of, etc; of whatever they are collecting. In collecting coins, I like pedigrees.
Myself like many others are fed up with the garbage who prey on uneducated collectors/newbies....
Myself like many others are fed up with the garbage who prey on uneducated collectors/newbies....
I have begun creating an organization with the sole purpose of educating collectors and minimizing the impact of unethical dealers/ebay sellers whose only goal is to make as much money as possible with no regards to fairness and accurate representation of their goods.
I know I am not permitted to
In NYC a legislator has submitted a bill that would make it a crime to walk across streets while listening to an iPod.
About the same time I heard this they were also talking about a fellow who, while defending his family from attack, had accidentally killed the assailant (with his bare hands) - and was being charged with MURDER.
In the same report they went on to say that people who take the bus back and forth to work will have to submitt to random searches before they will be allowed to g

Michael W. Cooper is only half right!
Any one will agreee that education is key in our hobby. However, to think that we don't need the coin police is foolish.
Someone must be there to help the newbie until he is properly educated. If Michael W. Cooper thinks it is OK for an eBay seller to put a VF Morgan in a holder and mark it MS 67PL and then accept a bid for $300.00, then he is also part of the problem.
Until the legit TPG's step up to eliminate
i read a post talking shortly about the pricing of slabbed coins......
i get frustrated daily looking on ebay and seeing a ngc or other slab( not pcgs) being priced using the pcgs price guide. this is like buying a kia @ a benz price.
if you are selling a coin in a ngc slab and dont have a account to check verifacation it is easy enough to find some1 that can for you.
i never buy a coin in a auction that has been priced by anothers guide.
now if it is a pcgs coin then pcgs is the right
It is my understanding that Numismedia is a wholesale price guide..not retail...
wholesale is or was supposed to mean a price available to dealers from reciprocating dealers...or in others words..not the normal price available to the general public...retail...but that doesn't seem to mean much these days...in fact all too many "collectors" want to buy at a price with more relationship to an outright steal than a fair price....and the explanation of a "fair price" doesn't really cut it.....when
just got the press release on the "NEW" SIDE VIEW Presidential Dollar Holder....no picture, just a description...and the rules for first day release labeling
have you seen the press release yet? just got the email about 10 minuits ago....and I ask u...how is the little dealer or collector supposed to get the new dollars and send to NGC by the next day (16th) if the mint won't even ship them for a week or so? huh! oh well screwed again I guess
Collectors set the market....not the guides.
The only true value I have found for a coin is to put it up for auction and see what it goes for.
Case in point- a 1976-D Kennedy Half Dollar graded by NGC as MS-67. In NGC's lookup (numismedia)the coin was valued at $500. on ecoinprices it was $825. In "Coin Values" it was valued at just $45.00 !! Quite a range !
In reality, this coin cost me less than $20, and that INCLUDES the grading fees, so I put it up for auction at a low start ($49.99)an
Can't meet deadlines.
They are taking too long to fullfil orders, maybe they are getting too big and not enough help with background... I have an order they recieved on 1-26-07 with 5 day turn around, it is in quality control as of this day.2-8-07
