I did it! the coins are disapointing but NGC posted my submission as received on 2/16/07 and I should receive the 1st day of issue label on my scared up dead presidents!
Living about 1 1/2 hours away from NYC driving to Grand Central station to the mints unveiling of its new dollar coin would be nearly impossible with commuter traffic, tolls parking. However, I could take a bus, checking the schedule I found the 6am one would serve my purpose. Then a short 7-9 block taxi ride, and I would arri
I too am surprised
I did not expect my last two orders to move to Scheduled until late next week. After reading your post I checked mine and they are scheduled too. I was very pleased with the results of my first order. One moved to scheduling it goes very fast from there.
Thanks NGC.
I have handed out my fair share of thorns, now it's time for a rose.
On Tues, February 13th. NGC received my latest submission. 10 coins on the modern tier for crossover grading. Current turnaround is 22 working days. I do not know what possessed me to look at my submission today, but I did, and I was absolutely flabbergassed to see that my coins are already scheduled for grading. I don't know what I did right this time, or which of the coin gods were looking upon my submission... whatever t
The mint mark could be it
I recently bought a 1901 Quarter for $5.00 on EBay. I then saw another one, that sold for more than $5500.00. The $5500.00 coin was an S mint mark. Mine is plain, so is probably a P. I need to do more research on this coin.

First time I got rolls from the bank for anything
Yesterday was the first time I went through the trouble to buy rolls from the bank for a new issue. I picked up about 4% of my branches supply of the washington dollars. And I have to say I was dissapointed. A large amount of the coins seemed to have a fairly weak strike on the obverse. The design however is beautifull and I am keeping quite a few of them, all of those that I found to be in the best shape. Having never purchased rolls before I
With all of the hype of First Day issue coins.. the US Mint could really capitalize!
The US Mint is out to make money. This is apparent by their push of Presidential Dollars and the fact that they sell $25 worth of these coins for $36.
So here is my idea...
Special First Day of Issue US Mint wrappers for rolled coins. Imagine is you could buy a US Mint Wrapped roll of presidential dollars that were marked (by the US Mint) as First Day of issue.
Then it would be far easier for the gener
maybe it's not the mint's problem but instead the armored car companies that actually roll the coins?
as I understand it, the mint sends the newly minted coins to the armored car companies in $70,000.00 bins (loose) for them to roll and distribute. could it be that the machines that they use are doing such a job on our new coins? after all they have already made a fortune selling the coins to the shop at home's
Even the Main branch of B of A in downtown San Francisco did not get dollars for first day!
What a major dissapointment!
I have spent all day in search of the elusive dollars, even to go as far as having a friend run to the main branch of Bank of America in downtown San Francisco (not a small town or institution)- This after trying 8 different local banks / credit unions. As far as I am concerned the mints outreach to our area was NILL. Needless to say, this has left a very sour taste for t
These statistics can be helpful..if you use them the right way
True, you can not simply take the total results by grade and make any reasonable determination by comparing these numbers, but you can however, compare percentages. Granted you need to have decent sample so your results arte completely skewed but these numbers would then have meaning. For example....
If company A grades 5000 quarters (keeping it simple here)
and grades:
50 of those quarters as MS70
1000 of those quarte

Was that George Washington on the new $1 coin or Jake LaMotta after four rounds with Billy Fox? I just went through two "mint" rolls looking for the "best of the bunch" to save for this memorable occasion. Whew, brother! Either the Mint is using a lead based alloy or they are minting these coins with a jack hammer! I didn't see one "mint" condition coin in the lot! Most of the decades old coins in my loose change box are in better condition! Poor George looks l
Have you ever made a score change request, and had your request ignored?
A while ago, I made a request for a score change on a 1963 Cent in MS67RD. With only 5 graded at that level and none higher, 237 points seemed stupidly low if you considered the fact that in the same set, a 1963 Dime in MS67 scores 437 with 219 graded at that level and 4 MS67*'s, plus quite a few Full Torch examples higher.
Time went by and nothing was done about this discrepency, so I started posting on the chat board
No luck here in Riverside California...
No luck here in Riverside California... I tried several banks in the area, and they all had no idea of what I was talking about regarding the new presidental dollar coins... Go figure!!!.Then I tried the U.S. Mints site and was only able to (after 3 1/2 hours) purchase a Denver Mint roll. The Philadelphia rolls were not available, Oh well. At least I made my subscription purchase for the proof sets...
I only had 4 rolls from my local bank....can you say disappointed?
out of 4 rolls...1 might have made MS-65..if ngc was being kind..4 may have made 64, again if they were being nice to me...that left 95 that were 63's or lower...most were probably 63....can any one say major vast disappointment? I have a 250 bag ordered of each..p&d...hope there are better handling for those...i hope..i hope
US MINT WEBSITE IS SLAMMED AND JAMMED TODAY
The US Mint website is jammed with people logging in today so
you might have to wait awhile. Whats the fuss? Well, the new
presidential dollars are rolling out today. I dont know yet if
I will get the uncirculated coins yet.
Thanks
Howard
The mint was selling them in Grand Central
Apparently rolled by N.F String and Son. Blue type, White Background and Red Stripes.
Wow, not a single MS66 in the whole bunch, may not have been any MS65s if they were tough on the grading.
I guess I will need to go trough another 10. Hoping to find something worth sending in.
Just to clarify, my previous post about ratios of NGC to PCGS was based on the ratio of NGC and PCGS percentages at MS69.
Example, if NGC graded 1% at MS69 and PCGS gr
the joke continues...
I acquired the coins in my possession from Wachovia over the counter this morning. I watched them open the box. The rolls are wrapped in NF Stringer & Sons, Inc. wrappers... white with blue and black lettering and red and white end markings.
I do my research. The rolls are in my hands. I witnessed the box opening. I can read the text on the rolls.
If collectors buy this garbage, we will continue to get offered garbage!
I for one have no intention of wasting 1c on a Presidential dollar.
And as a group of people that should be able to send a message to the US Mint, we want quality, we want coins made of silver/gold/platinum, not some slab of clad metal. At least give us something that has a melt value!
Now I have wasted too much of my life on these loser coins. I will never comment on them again.
Coins from the bank are a joke...
Just for grins I bought two rolls this first day () of release. Coins from the bank were wrapped by in String & Son wrappers and every coin was a mess. fingerprints, nicks, damaged edges, I don't even expect BU grade. Guess I will wait for the proof sets.
A lesson in following instructions TOO closely...and when statistics can be misleading.
OK. The 5 bust halves I sent to NGC are marked as received. This was my first submission as a collector society member. I used my coupon for 5 free early bird submissions...which leads to the embarrassing part of my post. I entered the information on line, printed the submission invoice, followed the submission directions very closely, packaged my coins and took them to the post office for mailing. On
