Going To The Grader
Although attractive to the average eye in this holder, I like my coins to be 'sano'. So off they go to get a new holder, or holders, and certification. Photo of obverse here, reverse in update.

Found a beautiful 1936 Walking Liberty Half
Got it in the mail today. Poor thing was in a cheap cardboard with staples holder, as many of the yet un-discovered treasures of this coin are. The seller went along with the grade on the front, as Ex. Fine. I think it will grade much higher. Nice rays, nice feathers and dress line detail. My first entry, so lets see how I do.

Is the book wrong on ICG?
Things are all relative when it comes to numbers. 15,000 coins graded MS70 when 1,000,000 coins were submitted is no different than 1,500 coins graded MS70 when 100,000 coins are submitted. To see if the numbers are out or the grading is not conservative you need to know how many are submitted. Personnally in this day and age, I don't see why more coins aren't a perfect 70 with computer technology, maching and dies. To see populations of MS70s, in the instance of th
NGC,ICG,PCGS,ANACS
Hi, I am new to the collectors society and IMHO ICG and ANACS are not the services we need to worry about. These two services are just as legitimate as NGC and PCGS. The ones we need to worry about are the ones that are putting MS 70 and PF 70 on almost every coin they grade, and there are plenty of them out there. NTC,INS,SEGS,PCCGS,STAR GRADING,PCC,PCI just to name a few. Some services evan put fake and "doctored" coins in holders. It has been said that the ANA should set
ICG vs NGC and PCGS
This morning I was watching HSN on cable TV. They were offering American Siver Eagles graded by ICG.
The offer was ICG graded 2007 American Silver Eages, MS-70, Fisrt Day of issue, about 15,000, for $100.00 each!
I was thinking the U.S. Mint must be doing an excellent job of minting. Then I got to thinking, ICG grading standards must not be as tight as NGC and PCGS. I don't think they have ever graded 15,000 MS-70 Silver Eagles in a year let alone the first day!

I finally found a 1881-CC Morgan that semi fit my budget,of course not according to my wife.
At the Fun show a few weeks ago I met a man that had lots of Carson City Morgans, after drooling for awhile I finally decided the MS-64 was going to be mine. After a little hageling I got it and now am the proud owner of 1881-CC ms64 1882-CC ms64 1883-CC ms64 1884-CC ms64pl and this week I got a MS61 1878-CC and a AU58 1891-CC. Next Im looking for a 1885-CC MS64.
Also all excited that my 20th Anniver
The Jamestown $5 Proof was just delivered by Fed X today.
I was pleasently surprized at the door when a FedX driver had a package for me today containing the Jamestown $5.00 Gold Proof. After giving it a close examination under 30 microscope I have to give the quality control of the West Point mint my salute and hats off to them. I think I have a Proof-70 grade. Thanks to this mint good work. Bernar
I decided I'd live up to my own expectations and do a quick writeup on the next TEN coins that I acquire ('acquire' sounds better than 'get' or 'buy' or 'won'). But I'll start with one of my most recent additions.
I can only attach one photo so I'll attach the photo of the reverse for this coin, because it's so interesting.
It's the 1809 50C Overton 102 with a XXXX edge.
(The 1807-1836 series of 50C Bust Halves have LETTERED edges saying "Fifty Cents or Half A Dollar", and this one in part
Received the coin back this weekend.
Body Bagged as not genuine.
This leaves me with a lot of questions. I don't know if the coin is made of gold or is gold plated or something else, In fact, I don't know anything other than the expert an NGC does not think the coin is genuine.
I wonder why, for the $30, we don't get a little more information. I am sure that when a coin is not genuine there is some simple explaination like, "Not Gold", "Wrong Weight", "Forged Die" etc... In order to make t
Your not alone.
I seemed to have missed something also. I haven't been able to find out anything about the winners for the Signature Sets either. I would like to think that my Signature Set is at least worthy of consideration too. I happen to be quite fond of it, but I could be a little prejudiced about it:)
This is an 1882 Shield Nickel graded MS-65 from the Richmond Collection.

The journey begins.
I suppose since this is my first entry I should say a little bit about my collection and collecting history. My first coin was a 1987 Silver Eagle that my father put under my pillow once when I lost a tooth. My grandmother would buy me proof sets and commems from time to time, but it wasn't until about four or five years ago that I really got into it. I started collecting Silver Eagles then (Unc) and am only missing five, which I hope to pick up next month. Now my attention
6 Year Effort Comes to Fruition.
"15 Most Wanted List" Has It's First Capture of 2007.On January 18,2007, I completed what I started in November, 2000.In 2000, I purchased an 1896-S Barber Quarter in AU-53. That purchase began a 6 year adventure in search of a complete set of these elusive coins. Today, the arrival of a 1900-S, MS-62, filled the last hole in my set. This coin was also #2 on my 15 Most Wanted List for 2007; making this the earliest capture (18 days into the new year) that I
Ngc grade: Not Genuine
It turns out the coin she carried here from poland 35 years ago has been determined to be not genuine.
She gave it to me as a cherished treasure she had been waiting to pass down.
Now I feel as though I need to replace the fake coin with a real coin.
I saw one graded by NGC just last week on ebay for about $350. I can only hope and wait that I see another in time to purchase it and get it delivered before she remembers to ask me about the grade the coin received w
got back from vacation and had 6 coins waiting for me, a great way to kick those post-vacation blues
I just got back from Florida with the family and instead of the usual "back to the grind blues" I was anticipating my trip to my po box. Waiting for me were 6 great coins that I had bought in the week/s before I left. First were 2 nice ship coins, one from Tonga and a superb 1938 silver Swedish 2 Kronor-still in its original mint cello!!{NGC here they come} also a 1948-D bu FBL Franklin to fini
Probably the most important question anyone can ask themselves when they want to creat a really great collection, is the question 'Why?'
From generalities like:
Why am I choosing this coin?
To specific questions like:
Why do I like this color?
Why am I buying it in this condition, with this grade?
Why am I choosing it raw, holdered, or holdered by this particular grading company (even if it 'doesn't matter' to you).
Why is it OK to have this 'mark', or why is it OK to have this 'di
MS64DPL
I recently bought some coins from an auction. I was really impressed with this 1884 CC so I sent it in and low and behold, 35 days later, I get it back certified by NGC as MS-64DPL. As you might imagine, I was very pleased. I thought I would share this with my fellow collectors.

Here in Denver, the buds are nowhere to be seen!
But what can one do but spend hours perusing all the coin sites. Both the Registry sites and sellers sites. You never know what you will find. For instance, I wasn't really looking for them but I found 3 of the 4 missing $5 AGE DCAMS I am lacking for reasonable $$$$.
Being cooped up has its advantages too!!!
Slabbed coins are cool, but I also love my raw buffalo and Merc collections.
I am starting on my second set of raw mercs (not including the 41 overdates and the 16d). I went to my local antique dealer and bought the coins I THOUGHT I needed, only to get home and discover I duplicated a bunch of coins I didn't need and only bought one of the coins I did need.
This last weekend at the coin show I saw at least 1/2 doz Beautiful buffalo nickels, but was afraid to buy, because I couldn't remembe
NGC adding ANACS coins???
I had read some place a few months ago that NGC might be allowing people to add ANACS coins to the NGC registry. Has anyone heard any information on this one way or the other?
