Finally

The mint came through Well, the mint finally sent the coins I ordered for xmas presents in November. The last box will be delivered Sunday morning to my mother-in-law. (She is a sweetie) She will receive 3 Presidential dollar Proof sets, and a D roll of Wash & Adam Dollars. She has quite a collection of the new dollars, and wants to put together sets for all her grandchildren. She has the albums for them, and is just collecting the coins as they come out. She gets the P rolls from her daug

Cross Grading

My Suggestion This is for jayh, about sending in his coins fron ICCS for cross grading. You should be able to submit the coins with the stipulation that if they do not grade at least as high as they already are, then they will be returned un touched. They will still charge you, but you wont run the risk of losing your present grade. The few coins that I have had cross graded, have came back the same. Two 1942/41 Merc Dimes, and a 1921-D Merc Dime. Not sure what the value of your coins are now,

U.S.Mint Catalog service down

Ya know what really sucks? What really sucks for me, is I placed 3 orders Nov. 19th, and only received one. The other two are lost. Getting the information for the two lost orders was hard, because I could not access my account info. The C.N.R's (cert of non receipt) came in the mail yesterday. I finally found the hard copy receipts, so I was able to fill the forms out. Now, I hope they can sort this out as they renovate their site. And to add another twist, the two that did not show up, were

Something to think about

Lincoln pennies I believe they will quit making the Lincoln penny this year, so I wonder how the market will adjust to no more Lincolns? Will even the so-so specimens of key years go for much more than now? Has anyone else starting to hoard pennies? Just curious what everyone thinks about it.

Silver Eagles

To buy, or not to buy right now I must say in all fairness, I do not own any silver eagles. But from what I have seen in this market, and others like it, you should wait. With the coins going for that much, there will be late comers who send in coins laying around for the last 10 years, trying to cash in on the hype. Therefore, more certifieds out there, and the demand will stay the same, but there will be more of them. Then you will be able to find a 'cheap' one here and there. I think they w

Dishonest Dealers

Here is a trick To find out if a dealer will rip you off, take a few coins that you know the value of, and maybe a couple cleaned or altered coins, and see what they offer you. If they are fair, then maybe they are worth dealing with. If they try to rip you off, then quietly pick up your marbles, and mark the dude off your list of reputable dealers. I did that with 3 dealers, all 3 tried to rip me off. Offered me $200.00 for a ag-3 1916-D Merc Dime in PCGS holder, and offered $5.00 each for NG

NGC was doing ok

More back from NGC

Soon-- registry pics Just got my Presidents back, the Washington was a PF-66 (spots) and the rest were 69's. Not bad, but I got back a total of 40 coins that I have to scan into my registry. That should keep me busy!

Peace Dollars & Morgans

Picked up a few nice ones I recently purchased a framed set of coins that contained a 1923, and 1924 Peace dollars, and a 1889, 1901-O, and 1921 Morgan dollars. A total of 5 coins, and they appear to have been sealed up in this cardboard cut-out display of U.S. Dollars since maybe the 70's. They are all toned dark grey-blue on the reverse, and toned around the diameter on the obverses. I will try to post pics of them. They appear to be either almost uncirculated, to un-circulated. I have not s

Back from NGC

More coming Well, some of my proof sets came back, mostly 69 Ultra Cameo, but expect to get mostly 69's anyway. My Presidents were all 69 U.C with the exception of a Washington 66. It had some kind of spotting on it from the mint. I got back the following 70's: Clad Kennedy 1999-S, Clad Roosevelt Dime 1999-S, Clad Kennedy 2007-S, Clad Roosevelt 2007-S, Jefferson Nickel 2007-S, and the Clad State Quarters are Wash, Montana, and Idaho. The 1998 70 UC was the Roosevelt Dime. I got back a 70 UC

WOW

Just checked my order My 2007 clad proof set just posted as finalized, and I did OK. The Kennedy half, the Dime, & Nickel were PF-70 UC. The Montana, Washington, and Idaho Quarters were PF-70 UC also. The rest of the set was PF-69 UC. Waiting to see what my Presidents are doing, and the 2007 silver set, with Presidents.

I kinda agree with Jim

But then--- I think Jim is right when he says that alot of people think they are investing in coins to make a profit, because as he also says, you must have alot of newer coins, and less valuable coins to make it a worthwhile venture in the profit sense. However, when coupled with cd's, t-bills, stocks, 401K's, and other small investments, can provide a nice nest egg 20 or so years down the road in addition to your other investments. We will retire in 10 years, and have all of the above, times

KINDA EXCITED

Did I get a winner?? My 2 2007 Silver Proof sets just arrived from the mint. one set looks as if it were the first off the press. the secons one, i noticed a flaw, or error? On Jefferson, his hair has a strand out of place. No, I am not crazy. I will try to upload a photo with this post. Some of my pics are hard to post. Dont know why. if it is not posted, I will e-mail one to anyone who asks. As far as I can tell, (I am 98% sure), it is not an actual hair in the holder. Not a crack in the cas

1999 Silver Proofs

On the way home Well, just when I think I know what to expect. My silver 1999 Proofs all graded PF 69 UC, except the dime. It graded PF 68 UC. I guess the dime wasnt up to snuff. I have another 99 silver set going in. Maybe I can get a 69 dime out of it. I will update on the other six orders I submitted. They were all received today. My 1946 PDS uncirculated mint set, 1998 & 1999 clad proof sets, 2006 clad & silver proof sets, and the 2007 clad proofs with presidents. I noticed that th

NGC, Blazing fast

Are they not real busy?? My 1999 silver proofs were received Aug 30, and today, they are in quality control already. I talked to my wife, and she is gonna let me take advantage of the quick NGC turnarounds, and submit all my proof sets. I have a silver 98 set coming from ebay, and will send it in with my clad 98. But in the mean time, I will send in the 2006 clads & silvers, and the 2007 clads. (Waiting on the 2007 silvers, they are shipped already). So I will be happy to get a majority, i

The 1999's go out Tuesday

1999 Silver Proofs Well, my EBay set of 1999 Silver Proofs came today, and I will send them Tues to NGC. They will complete my 1999 Proof set in the registry. Maybe they will all come back PF70's. My clad 99's are 69's, so not much of a stretch. They look very worthy of 70 status. Got a good deal on the set, about $100.00 under Red Book price. Sounds like NGC is running quick, so I better get them in before the Holiday.

1999 Silver Proofs

Finally I finally found a 1999 Silver Proof set that didnt cost an arm & leg. I will be submitting the set to NGC as soon as it arrives. Then my 1999 Proofs will be complete. Just hoping for 69's across the board, but would really be happy with 70's. My clads came back 69 UC, so 69's would be ok. Got this set for almost a hundred under Redbook, so I am happy as a lark right now.

The things that happen

in EBay I had something similar happen to me a few months ago. I was bidding on a 1946-D Roosevelt dime in an NGC holder. I won the bid, and wrote down the cert. number, to look up later. I just happened to check the listings again, and the same coin was for sale, worded the same way, same guy. I shot a quick e-mail, asking how my coin could still be for sale. I was assured he had gotten the pics mixed up, he had a few different ones for sale. I got the coin, no prob. I wonder if I caught a po

Complete Merc Dime Sets

They are both going Well, I have decided to sell both my Merc Dime sets. They will go on ebay tomorrow, and I will post the item numbers, in case anyone is looking for a set. One set has a certified 1916-D (PCGS 0-3)a certified 1941/42-P (ANACS VF-30), and certified 1921-P, and 1921-D (NGC AG-3). The rest are average, to above average circulated condition. The other set is the same, except there is no 1941/42, and the 1921-D is PCGS AG-03 instead of NGC AG-3. I have decided to put more of my e

Storage is important

I learned the hard way Last summer, I had a few older proof sets out on the spare dining room table (should call it the coin table, as it has not seen a dinner in years), and after only a few days, a couple of coins looked different, tone wise, from the sun shining on them most of the day. These were in the plastic government wrapper, and not the hard plastic. I got my money back out of them, but they were going to NGC, before their transformation into cloudy coins. I have seen the new pennies

I agree with Dutch

Maybe PCGS is the way to go I also have had some time to look at various denoms and grades of coins in shops, and on Ebay. It does seem that PCGS coins are worth more. Not all, but so many that it has me scratching my head. I am pretty sure after much study, that my two PCGS 1916-D Merc dimes would make g-4 instead of ag-3 if submitted to NGC. a $150.00 to $200.00 difference. But if it came back the same grade, would be worth less by NGC. I am going to look at PCGS, and see what the deal reall
