US MINT

It's not first in first out!! Its confirmed. I ordered the 2009 proof sets at 12:05pm on June 1, 2009. Order is still in process. I made another order 12:31pm on June 2, 2009 for the same proof sets. The June 2nd order has been received. I am glad all coins look good and are on there way for grading. It may be my imagination, but it looks as if the Kennedy has a high relief feature as it looks more concave then the previous years.

MAKES YOU WONDER!!!

Its all about Eye Appeal Sort of makes you wonder how NGC can tell the difference between a 69 and 70, but can't manage to see whether coins are properly aligned in the holder(i.e., the coin straight up and down in the holder). Sorry I am having a bad day, in that, everyone expects me to do my job correctly!! Sorry, NGC but this reflects poorly on your company.

Striking a nerve??

I think thou does protest too much!! I think I have been called condescending and a know-it-all. Guys, do what works for you!! I was merely commenting on what works for me. I did enjoy the one post about posting signs to protect your property. It reminds me of the joke about the farmer. So I will leave you with this: A farmer notices that someone is stealing his tomatoes every night. So the farmer post a sign saying: ?One of these tomatoes has been poisoned, eat at your own risk?.

Safe or Pipe???

We all may be living with a false sense of security!! Children can't we all get along. Everyone does what they think is best when it comes to security. I too have a large safe bolted, two dogs, and a security system - not a big deal. I still believe all this security is a false sense of security. Ask yourself one question: If you are caught off guard in your home and some points a 357 at your head and makes a subtle request to open the safe - are you going to say NO? In this case I may wi

2009 Lincoln Cent

A penny for your thought!! Has anyone seen what individuals are paying for a roll of 2009 Lincoln Penny? Check out e-bay, one roll over $100, a box for over $1,100, 50C and $25 value. I ordered an entire box from my bank for $25, expected in this week or next. What are people thinking? If you want a roll of the new pennies as they are released (P&D) for a reasonble price ($2.99 per roll) check out this website: http://www.coinsofamerica.com Go to lincoln cents on the left side of s

RE: New Lincoln Pennies

You will have to "bank" on this one!! I don't believe the mint will release the mint state coins in rolls. To my knowlege the mint will only release the proof version, in the proof sets, special proof set with the lincoln commerative, and of course the mint state versions will be in the mint sets. However, in saying that, I did find this on the net: "The 2009 Lincoln Cents can be obtained from banks or found in circulation following the official release dates. The US Mint will also sell

RE: Did you get yours??

It may be on the way, but then again maybe not!! The order status on the UHR I ordered says "in stock" but no shipment date. However, the mint has been busy sending e-mails. I received no less than 3 this week with 3 different estimated ship dates. It will be here when it gets here, not all that concerned. The price is up $100.00 from my purchase 2 weeks ago and that's always a positive.

US Mint State Quarter Rolls

Any Answers?? It is my understanding that the first 8 US Mint State Quarter rolls were issued in the red, white, and blue wrappers in a plastic tube with a mint display box. After that US Mint distributed rolls 9-50 were in boxes with the black and orange wrappers. However, through various searches I have located later rolls, including the last (Hawaii) in the red, white, and blue wrappers (the same as the first 8). Any ideas on who is responsible for these rolling of coins?

2009 Buffalo, Gold Eagle Sets????? I see that NGC has a TBA cutoff off date for Early Releases of all denominations of the mint state and proof buffalos and gold eagles. In checking the US mint's Website there is no indication that any of these coins are to be issued and the product availability is through Winter. I also heard no more domination in any of these coins? NGC do you know something the rest of us don't?

2009 Ultra High Relief is here and so is the Greed!!

Double the relief and double the price. As of 2:30pm no less than 13 individuals who wanted these coins are are ready selling them on e-bay and some at a high of $3,000.00. Wonder how high they will go? Got in at about 12:30pm with little effort at the mint's current price with an expected January ship date. I see the expected ship date is only one week longer as of 2:30pm. Not a big deal!!

Re: My eyes got opened today

Let's flip the coin! I realize that an individual is happy when they receive coins at bargain basement prices especially 70s, I am in the same company. But how long do you think a dealer will be in business is they purchase 5 silver quarters at $26.00 have them graded at $12.50 @ piece and has to pay shipping both ways and they have to sell them at slightly over $100? Well let's do the math: $26.00 + 62.50 + 10.00 shipping + let?s say e-bay and pay pal fees of 10.00. Well that's a conserv

Gold $$ Platinum $$

Lower Prices Are comming!! I noticed that the US Mint has suspended sales for most gold & platimum coins. I was told the mint was in the process of repricing and new (lower) prices will be posted tomorrow. For you buffalo hunters it looks like the 4 piece proof set will be about $200 lower. Happy Hunting!!

NGC New Holders

Do you know? I realize that the new NGC holders have new security measures on the back. However, I have seen some with prongs that enable you to see the edge like the presidential and other with no prongs like the conventional holders. It seems the only consistency is that all coins with edge lettering have prongs. But I have seen other coins with no edge letting with prongs also and some like the convential holders. How do you know what you will get? Pronged or non-pronged. In addition, w

Grading Services

How do they rate? I am considering purchasing a Canadian coin graded by ICCS ( I beleive this is the main Canadian grading service). Need some opinions on how they rate and do you think it would be a grade for grade exchange with NGC on crossover? Any comments appreciated!

Silver quarters 1992-1998

A great find at a great price - presistence pays off! I just finished completing my modern silver quarter collection in NGC PF70. After a few months of haggling I completed the silver quarters from 1992-1998 for about $750 to go with my 50 state quarters in PF70. With a very low mintage and population of the 1992 - 1998 coins I found this a good deal considering a 1999 Delaware in PF70 sells for about $6,000 now and it has a population of 222. I thought I was out of mind paying $1000 for th

Didn't know we can sell coins through this media?

Yes, I did. But it brings me to e-bay, bottom-fishers, and the apparent state of the economy. I thought I would try to sell some extra coins I had on e-bay, but apparently with the economy all we have is ?bottom fishers?. I tried to sell the 2008 bald eagle commemoratives (all six including the gold) for what I thought was a very attractive buy-it now, only about $200 over mint, grading and e-bay fees. I received one offer for $800 for all six graded by NGC, all 70s. The cost on the coins f

It's a "NO SHOW"

A discourging word. I decided to go to the annual Whitman Coin show held in Atlanta yesterday. I specifically went to see if I should send a particular coin in for grading or if they someone thought it was "cleaned". Some of the prominent grading services were there like ICG, ANACS, and PCGS. Could not find a grader among them and NGC did not "show". I was told NGC went to the Sarasota show. I did not realize Sarasota had a larger market than Atlanta. After 20 minutes I decided to make m

Re: More Questions - No answers Revisted

Last Comment for this Hobby. I don't disagree one bit with banknote1. You should buy the coin and not the holder. But it?s a fact of life that people do and pay high dollars for it and people profit from it. I just believe there are too many questions that I have that cannot be answered to my satisfaction (labels, grading services, large submitters vs. small submitters). I can argue them all!! I believe there is much diversity in this hobby and until there is some regulation, whether its s

RE: My massive July in Review

A whole lot to do about nothing. Not as a comment on either journal writers, but one of observation not just from July but from 2008. First the mint offers a "celebration" 1 ounce buffalo, different packaging, but already in the market. In fact NGC would not give an early release on this coin because it has already been released for 30 days. Now we have a "double prosperity set" same coins elsewhere, again different packaging. Is the mint in the business of manufacturing coins or seeing how

More Questions - No Answers Revisted!!

Getting discourgage with coin collecting!! I ask NGC if they would change a NGC First Strike to a NGC Early Releases. This is what they said: "Thank you for your inquiry. NGC will not change the label from First Strikes to Early Release. The only way for a coins to receive the Early Releases designation is if that coin is in our facility within the first 30 days of release." I wrote back: I heard that an individual (dealer) sent in a green monster box of 2006 silver eagles (bullion)

More Questions - No Answers

More than two premier grading services and graders. I am sure many of you subscribe or read coin world on more of a casual basis. I noticed over the years something that seems very strange to me and it concerns grading services. There is one particular salesman, yeah that has one coin show that went defunct and now is on another (shop something or another). I am sure many know who I mean. He is always saying there is only two grading services, that of PCGS and NGC. He calls all others Enc
