RE: AN OPEN QUESTION FOR MEMBERS?

Supply and Demand! I think you see the fluctuation because you have more sellers in market than you did even a year ago. Even as short a time ago as a year you had only a few coin dealers, mainly in Florida that controlled the market on modern coins. These dealers held coins back to some degree to create a higher demand - perception was lower quantities of coin available. Don't get me wrong I think these guys are great for the market because they are trend setters for all of us. But today yo

Presidential Dollar Proof set

Spring Came Early This year! Just got word the mint has shipped my presidential proof sets 2/20/07. Wow!! Now I can boast like the guys on TV - I am the first to have them. 20 sets - I just wonder how they will grade!!

RE: President George "Raging Bull" Washington

NOW THAT'S A CLASSIC! Hat's off to you! Best journal thus far of the year. I agree he fared better with the British. It's a shame what happened; the mint could have made these coins so nice. Just picture the the presidential proofs in a bi-metal, similar to the 2000 library of congress, except with a gold outer circle and a silver center. The business strike coins in circulation could have had a copper circle with a nickle center. George would have been ready to step out on the town.

NCG, PCGS, and ICG Grading Reponses

Numbers are numbers! I would like to thank all of you for the interesting comments. All seem valid, some more than others. I guess the bottom line all comes down to acceptability and price. And I think all would agree with that statement. I would like to pass on a word of caution to the nay sayers who say they will only purchase NGC or PCGS. I have lived long enough to see many changes. For example, I remember back in the mid-1960's when Japanese cars were considered "". American cars we

NGC, PCGS, and ICG

Is the Grey Book wrong? Well according to COIN DEALER NEWS, ICG IS AS ACCURATE AS NGC OR PCGS, IF NOT MORE. AS OF JANUARY 5, 2007 ICG HAS AN OVERALL ACCURACY RATING OF 80.24%, NGC IS 79.13%, PCGS IS 84.71% and ANACS IS 56.83%, if I am reading correctly. ICG is second only to PCGS. CDN Greysheet has repeatedly shown that ICG has a higher grading average than NGC. Can anyone explain why then ICG does not have the reputation amoung the hobby as NGC or PCGS. Would love to hear some opinions.

RE: PASS ON THE PRESIDENTS!

BU as a grade is BS on modern coins! You may be correct in the true sense that BU is a grade, but in my opinion BU is a numismatic term not a grade on modern coins, otherwise the US Mint is also an official grader, as they advertise as "never been circulated". Personally, I don't need NGC to tell me BU on a coin that was just purchased from the mint as never been circulated. I believe this designation as a grade only becomes relevent to coins not purchased in the modern error, but that's jus

RE: Presidential FIRST DAY OF ISSUE

ONE HAND WASHES THE OTHER For TV shows to get thier coins graded before all others is expected! After all SHOP AT HOME sings the praises of NGC as being the offical grading company of the ANA and the PNG. Tons of free advertisement for NGC. To them the only other coin grader is PCGS, all others are encapsulating services. You can see how they cut up the other coin shopping networks who offer coins graded by an other service. So to put it blankly, wouldn't you give priority service to those

20th Anniversary Eagle Set

It's a long gestation period! I ordered 10 sets of 20th Anniversary Eagle Sets from the mint back in September. After two consecutive back orders (October and early December), the coins finally arrived at my door 12/24 Christmas Eve. I promply packed the unopened box and sent the 10 sets to NGC for grading 12/27. The box arrived at NGC on 1/5/07 as per their site; however, I have confirmation from the post office via the registered mail reciept that they really arrived on 1/3/07. After 21 bus

Granite Lady

Well the San Fransciso Earthquake could not distroy this landmark!!! Does anyone know why there is no population report on the the San Francisco gold and silver coins that were issued at the end of last year? We seem to have population reports on the 2007 Jamestown which is barely in its infancy, but none on coins issued months ago. Maybe it should be renamed the "FORGOTTEN LADY".

ICG, NGC, PCGS GRADING

Is the book wrong on ICG? Things are all relative when it comes to numbers. 15,000 coins graded MS70 when 1,000,000 coins were submitted is no different than 1,500 coins graded MS70 when 100,000 coins are submitted. To see if the numbers are out or the grading is not conservative you need to know how many are submitted. Personnally in this day and age, I don't see why more coins aren't a perfect 70 with computer technology, maching and dies. To see populations of MS70s, in the instance of th

US Mint and the First Strike Designation

What's a First Strike worth and why bother? Did anyone see the article that the US Mint published concerning the First Strike Designation on the the 2006 gold buffalo and silver and gold eagles. They indicate they do not take inventory on when these coins were struck only packaged and therefore they do not designate any as first strike. In other words coins delivered after the thirty days may have been struck within the first thirty days. In fact a lot probably were as the acticle indicates
