Re: What will the mint do ?

Probably Nothing. I don't think it has anyting to do with the North or South. The Southern States of America or the Confederacy is a defunct government. Why would the mint celeberate a president of a defunct government? On the other hand, Jefferson Davis' birthday is a State Holiday in both Florida and Alabama (celebrated in June). The "original" first White House of the South is still standing in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. Before its location was changed to Richmond Virgina.

NGC First Strike - Early Releases

Interchangable? Does anyone know if NGC will re-designate a coin labeled First Strikes as Early Releases? I beleive they both had to be submitted within 30 days of release.

Re: Opinions Wanted

Only Mine - Everyone has One!! If you believe you have a NGC coin that is under-graded, you can re-submit (in orginal holder) for an appearance review. I assume PCGS offers something similar. If the coin is other than a PCGS or NGC many will say it probably received high or overstated grade. Although I believe that ANACS and ICG have some excellent and expert graders, these labels and grades aren't as widely accepted by many collectors. In other words all grades by all grading services are no

US Mint

Is it a one way street? I notice that when precious metal prices rise the US Mint suspend sales, but when price fall they are reluntant to do the same, in that lower prices. In the last month platinum per ounce has fallen about $300 from $2,085 to $1,785 but the one ounce uncirculated remains at $2,349.95. I beleive that when you trade in precious metal you not only take the upside potential but also the downside risk.

Some Great Deals and Some Unbelievable prices!

A message to the uninformed I have been eyeing e-bay lately and it seems like the deals are unbelievable on modern coins. I have seen many NGC 70 being offered with buy-it nows for very little over the mint's original selling price and yet they go out unsold. The gas pinch and high prices must have left collectors high and dry. This leads me to shop at home coin shows. This morning I saw a 2008 gold buffalo NGC MS69 early releases selling for about $1,500 and according to the pitch they were

2008 w Silver Eagle

Another Variety? In checking the mint boxes in which the 2008 W Burnished silver eagles came in it looks as if not only were there two varieties of reverses but also two varieties of mint boxes. The top portion has different sizes of the US Seal as well as lettering. There is not a distintion on whether you get '07 reverse or '08 reverse.

The Final Shot on a Dead Horse

"This would be a kick in the head" The mint, as well as coin world seems to call the '08/07 reverse a VARIETY more so than an error. The mint still illustrates the '07 reverse on there site for the 2008W MS silver eagle. If this is indeed a VARIETY as the mint wants you to think, and not an error, there would be nothing to stop the mint from producing the 2008W in BOTH varieties for all of 2008. After all there is nothing illegal about it, and one way to correct a mistake is to make it intenti

20th Silver Anniversary set

Is my memory failing? I have been corrected that the 20th anniversary (Silver) set was not available for approximatley 2 months. To my knowledge, the sets went on sale around Holloween and did not sell out until the second week of December (so my estimate is about 6 weeks and I did say approximately). I am not talking about the gold set which sold out within a day. I just remember placing two orders on the Silver Anniversary, one early in which I received in November and one later which I re

RE: 08/07 reverse answers all the questions

Don't put all your coins in one roll!! I don't mean to be argumentative, but the 2006 20th anniversary set (SILVER)took almost 2 months to sell out not one day. If I remember correctly, those sets sold for about $4,500 for a NGC PF/MS70 set when first available. You can get that same set today for about $1,500. In my opinion 900 coins per state is quite few. From my perspective I would rather have gold or platinum for the money. I like low mintages and low populations, and high intrinsic valu

2008 -W SAE Reverse of '07

STILL DON"T GET IT!! I wish someone would explain the prices ask and receiving for the 2008 ASE with the Reverse of '07. Census reports over 10,000 graded with 4,700 or so in MS70. Where is the rarity? Even if only 47,000 minted. One writer indicated prices at $1,000 for an NGC and $2,100 for a PCGS. I expect that the 2008 W total mintage to be around 600,000 based on prior years and the correct reverse in MS70 is barely breaking $79.00. To make another point look at the 1997 Botanic, only ab

RE: 2008 revese07 will be less than 47,000 minted

Has everyone forgotten all the MS70 & PF70 high value Silver Eagles!!! I do agree that this is a special coin, but some have compared this to the 1995W in value. Granted 28,000 is a very low mintage, but this is only one part of the equation. As of this writing, NGC has graded nealy 9,000 of this variety, with approximately 4,000 in MS70. Compare this to the 1995W, with 1,355 grade with only 116 graded a PF70, its not even close. Time will tell of its value, but it would be my opinion,

These are Strange Times

Time to Think!! According to everthing I read, the 2008 Sacagewea could not be minted because of a glitch in the law. Finally the Law was ammended for production. Well I ordered two rolls last week and one has a 4/08 date, but the other has a 1/08 date. Does this mean that the mint produced these coins before authorization. After seeing the 2008 W silver eagle with the 2007 reverse, who is minding the mint? This brings me to another question - Wasn't the 2006 reverse the same as the 2007 o

Online Auctions

Is there a good place to Buy & Sell??? Need a little help. Can Anyone provide assistance on a good on-line auction site to sell modern coins? Other than e-bay!! While I am not knocking e-bay, I rather see the collector get a better deal than have all the profit being absorbed in fees. On a typical $1,000 auction it costs close to $100 or 10% on the selling cost if you factor in insertion, exit fees, and pay pal fees. It seems the only winner is the auction site. Sorry if I am boring you

New 24k gold coin being minted in 2009!!

You'll need lots and lots of dollars!! Hope we can afford the gold by then. The gold June Call (futures) are at $1,200 an ounce. With the Federal Reserve lowering interest rates, providing a $200 billion liquidity facility to the banks this week, and now offering a similar liquidity facility to Bear Stearns though JP Morgan today(as technically Bear Stearns cannot borrow from the FED as they are not a bank), expect the dollar to become weaker, with oil and other commodity prices to soar, cou

First Spouse

UP $90.00 and climing!! The mint has put the price of the Elizabeth Monroe coins on the website - $619.95 for the proof and $599.95 for the UNC. - up another $90.00 from the Dolly Madison and nearly $200.00 from the original three. Talk about you high maintenance spouse!! Wish the mint would consider making them in silver.

RE: "More on "Shady Dealers"...

Knowlege is important!! My comment made about the mint suspending sales on the 2007 W Silver Eagle due to packaging issues was from an article in the 1/14/2008 issue of Coin World. The article is entitled "Mint resumes '07 Unc. Eagle Sales after month-long hiatus". The article reads "The U.S. Mint resumed taking orders Dec.21 for the Uncirculated 2007-W American Eagle 1-ounce silver dollars a month after sales because of difficulty in obtaining sufficient packaging ?? According to Becky Baile

2007 W Silver Eagle Unc.

Its was in the box not the coin!! The mint never did sell out of the 2007 W Burnish silver eagle. They suspended sales only because they ran out of the packaging. Go Figure!! Once they secured more packaging they made them available again.

Re: What was the Mint thinking?

There a MONOPOLY! The mint is not consumer minded at all. What competetive company would advertise a sale, shut down its website, and not answer the phone? Only one that could - a monopoly.

Re-Gold & Silver hitting new highs

IT'S FINANCIAL CHECK MATE FOLKS!! Don't wait for prices to drop anytime soon. Gold, silver, and Platinum will continue to rise. The reason, the FED is in financial check mate. They lower interest rates in an attempt to save the US economy from the credit crisis and the declining housing market. The problem is first that creates inflationary pressure which is the catalyst for the precious metal market. Second lowering interest rates while other countries are raising interest rate has devalue

Re: I was Asleep Yesterday and I was Just Curious ???

The second modern gold rush!! I still trying to find out the approximate time the mint sold out of the Jefferson non-spouse. I can tell you that between 12:35pm when my order was placed and one that was placed by a relative at 1:30pm appoximately 15,000 orders were taken (by the difference in our order numbers). Don't know if all the orders were for the non-spouse and of course some of these order may have been for one of the coins not for both. But we can assume that at least 15,000 of the po
