ANACS FIRST....THEN ICCS FOR CANADIAN

Now that is a novel idea. Why not allow ICCS graded coins to be added to the canadian sets in the registry. There is no question that ICCS is the foremost grader of canadian coins (in canada) and are almost as tight on grading as NGC or PCGS, if not tighter. And it would open up a wider venue for canadian sets by a large order of magnitude. True, it would impact NGC's and PCGS's business, no more crossovers, but think of the positive impact it would have on the collecting public. The numbe

Presidential Dollars***a couple of thoughts (questions?)

Has anyone obtained any info on the advertised Presidential Dollar Proof Set? and does anyone have any updates on the plans by NGC and PCGS for holders for them?..and as a last thought.... all these BEWARE posts point to an ongoing problem in the numismactic field...the difference in perspective between the collector and the invester....trying to combine the two is at least difficult and at most a head banging trial. Add "Silver" and you've got it... Seems like everyone wants Gem Silver JFKs, State Quarters, etc. Can almost never find Clad PF-70 quarters or halves (at least, older dates) on ebay anymore. Selling Clad PF-69s is also a pain... nobody seems to want them...

What a Wonderful Experience!

Last night I went to the monthly meeting of my local coin club and I met a gentleman that, some years ago, had inherited some coins from his grandfather. Supply and DEMAND! It's all about what people want to collect. A lot of the "New Collectors" want Gem State Quarters, Gem Kennedys, Gem Modern Commemoratives, Gem Silver Eagles, ect. If it was all about rarity, certain Large Cents would be selling for 10 times their current price. A Large Cent with the SAME RARITY as a given Morgan Dollar, sells for 1/10 the price, or less, of the Morgan. It's simply that a LOT more people collect the organ Dollars. Variation in collecting a SET (and thoughts about the issue of STRIKE in Capped Bust Halves)

There are 24 variations of defining the word 'set' (as a noun), in Merriam Webster. The one that hits me the most is: "20 : a group of persons associated by common interests" And for some reason, this definition is what means the most to me, with respect to collecting coins as a 'set'.Some people look for uniformity of grade, color, strike or whatnot, when building a 'set'. Everyone needs an escape......

This has been an incredibly rough few months. The only respite I get is the half hour I try to spend on the computer every night looking at coins. My wife gave birth to our twin sons in early November--three months premature. They weren't due until February 12th. After 17 days, one of the babies died. The other is still in the NICU at the hospital. They tell me he will be OK, but it's been a looooong, hard couple of months. Now what does this have to do with coins? Well, after a long day

Didn't expect my Journal Award! I was extremely surprised, and VERY flattered, when I noticed I received a 2006 Journal Award. I hope everyone understands that my journal articles were easy to write, without thought of winning an award. My Wild West signature set and collection is so enjoyable, the articles practically wrote themselves. When a person enjoyes what he's doing, things always seem easier. I think the hard part will be trying to keep the quality in my journal writings (musings???)

as of jan 1st 07' i have a few sets which are coming along nicely first there is my peace dollar collection, it is only ranked 86 and i still need 11 coins to finish but the set was started by my father and now that he is not here with us i feel he would like a complete set ( not the top set) so that is the goal. to have a ms60+ set not the greatest but a ms none the less. second i have a small cent type set, onlyranked 25 and i need 3 coins to complete set. i came into this set running. i o

I Found Another VAM Today!

Let it not be said that the only place that I buy coins is on eBay. I found another Vam today! It's a duplicate, but I think that it may grade a little better than the one that I have in my set. It's a 1924 VAM 2 Doubled Reverse Peace Dollar. I got it out of my local coin dealers common box. He doesn't take the time to search through them for varieties when he buys them so I have a perfect opportunity to find that "diamond in th ruff". Request Score Change NGC???

So I asked NGC for a score change... Why? well i felt like my 1936d san diego in ms67 which scores 2495 points in the silver commem set should score higher than 1928 points which it scores in the type set. now there are some other type set "shrinkages" that i would consider unfair but dont apply to me as of now. the worst case being the Cincinnati/S in ms67 which would lose 2000 points because the type set uses the score of the Cincy/D. my 36D san diego is the rarer of the two san diegos but

Is it Luck or something else?

My local coin dealer says that I'm lucky for getting some of the good buys that I have gotten on eBay. Luck is involved but that's not all there is to it. My local "Dealer" and his mentor (the real owner) have attemted purchasing coins on eBay and have had less than satisfactory results. Me--I've done rather well. More 2006 coins for the KDB set

The first of what will likely be many submissions of 2006 coins has just arrived at NGC. Even though I was planing on starting a 2007 Birthyear set this year ( she wasn't due till the end of the month after all) The fact that my grandaughter was born a year (sort of) early makes me glad that I ordered a few of the 2006 20th Anniversary Silver sets.
