Cleaned or Not Cleaned?

How does one tell? I've had several coins, mostly Morgans and Peace dollars, 1 $2.5 gold coin and 2 Washington quarters (1932 D and S) returned to me ungraded, from NGC with the disqualifer of "improperly cleaned". I did not clean these coins, so how does someone know when a coin has been cleaned? This has been a very frustrating experience, and is discouraging me from buying any older coins. The Thrill of Victory

My final Sllver Eagle Finally!! After months of bidding and losing, saving, hoping, shopping, looking, and frustration, I finally own my very own 1995 W PF American Silver Eagle. I was lucky enough to win the entire 5 coin 10th anniversary set for what the Silver Eagle set is worth. I'm sending them into NGC to grade, and hopefully they'll grade well. Abbreviation Confusion

Its all alphabet soup. Being a new collector is like being a new sports fan. The terminology is the killer. For instance, on the Morgan dollar, I've seen 7 TF and 8 TF along with VAM. I think the TF stands for Tali Feathers (don't laugh), but what is a VAM? What is a DMPL. I've got SMS for Special Mint or Satin Matte Surface. Is there any book, website or tutor willng to teach the not so young Paduwan. I need a good book on collecting of US coins, but I don't want to read anything the s

Another Broken Promise

I just can't say no Alright, so I promised myself that I wasn't going to collect Commemoratives. I'm such a liar! I started with the USMC coins because I thought they were cool. Now , I have almost all of the military/war coins and I've started buying the coins that I like the look of. Somebody help me! Is anyone else out there in the "Maybe just this one more coin" quandry? Well, at least I'm having fun and its not bad for my health or fattening!

Hoorah for Murphbuzzy

20th Anniversary Eagle Sets I agree completely with Murphbuzzy. You should open the sets to make sure the contents are as advertised. What happens if you send these in to be graded unopened and you get back 2 2006 pennies. Prove that you sent in an Eagle set. If you opened it, it will no longer be graded as an Anniversary set. If you did not open it, you have no proof. Are you telling me that no one else out there has gotten a damaged or incorrect order from the US Mint? Does NGC not re

New Pesidential Dollars

Whats with all the errors already? Does anyone have an opinion on the errors on the new Washington coin? I have seen missing letters from e pluribus unum, upside down rims and smooth (no lettering) rims. Should these be collected aggressively? I'd be interested in your opinions.
