  • For those that wish, this is how it works.   To start it off, post a pic of any commemorative half or any coin dated 1936.   Let's say next someone post an image of a 1936 Washington quarter. You would now need to post a pic of the same type coin (a Washington quarter) or anything dated 1936.   Let's see some cool coins.

  • I've been thinking.......we have a "For the love of copper" thread, so why not a "For the love of silver" thread?  So, let's give this a try!! Post any coins you want to share, just as long as they're silver.  I'll start us off with my only Faustina the Younger provincial, a silver Tetradrachm minted in Alexandria, Egypt: Let's see some great silver!!!

  • I thought a thread on once hot coins that have seen cooling interest (and cooling prices) would be of interest.  My interest in them was piqued when I saw an infomercial this past weekend and I saw the 3/4 ounce Kennedy Gold Coin that was offered at the ANA back in 2014.  I remember that dealers were paying the homeless to wait on line for them and stuff like that.  Not sure if the ultimate price high reflected that, but..... I will start off this thread with asking how the price is NOW compared to right after the 2014 ANA Convention ? Regular coin in OGP and maybe a PF70/69 coin ?

  • Only 2 simple rules for this thread. 1. Must have a face value of 5 cents. OR 2. Made from nickel alloy. We have a silver thread and a copper thread. I thought it was about time to give nickel some love. Post what ya got. Foreign or domestic, old or new, half dimes, 3 cent nickels, Buffs, Jeffs, Libs, etc.

  • 1872 5c proof minor doubled die obverse. I finally decided to bring an example of this variety into my collection. It's an easy variety to find; in fact, a high percentage of 1872 proofs were struck with this doubled die (S2-1015, F-06, 3-O-III). You will sometimes see 1872 proof DDOs erroneously listed as FS-007.   This example appeals to me because it's original, very clean, and a pleasing (to me, at least) golden tone with subtle shades of green. So, after passing over many opportunities, I finally pulled the trigger on this one. The fields are not deeply mirrored -- which is typical for Shield proofs -- but there is a bit of cameo contrast.

  • The Southern Lumber mill at Hillsdale was established in 1907,  and burned in 1922.

  • The $24 trillion U.S. Treasury market is the primary source of financing for the government as well as the largest debt market in the world.  If it were to occur -- June 1st, or two weeks from today -- what impact would it have on you and the coin collecting hobby at large?

  • I've had this coin only a few years I bought it off someone who sold as a MS 69 coin but for whatever reason I just realized there's a line right across the middle of the coin that very visible and shouldn't be there contacted NGC so they're now aware..24 year later? But request I send it In to be downgraded...I feel that's not right one idk what exactly that line is ...they made the error grading it big time and to send it in have it "downgraded" without any kind of recognition of the mistake loses me money on the coin...what to do ??

  • At some point, this thread and when it was started should make for some good posts.  In the meantime, we can discuss WHAT and WHEN that big increase might happen.  I thought about a much higher gold price when this piece talking about Putin and oil prices caught my eye:"...JP Morgan says Russia could give us a nasty surprise by cutting oil output by three millions barrels a day (3pc of world supply), which is physically possible without damaging its own drilling infrastructure. This would drive prices to an all-time high of $190. If Putin went for the jugular with a five million cut, prices could reach $380 a barrel." FWIW, I disagree with the absolute level
