I’ve been intrigued by the gouge on the reverse of this coin. I guess it’s PMD but I can’t find anything that looks the same. Perhaps I don’t know the correct terms to search. It could just be my eyes or misinterpretation but it seems like the letters T and E are formed on top of the indentation not flattened or pushed to the side. I’d appreciate it if someone could help me understand this. Thanks.

Greetings to all from a Newbie. First, thanks for sharing you knowledge and experience. Your suggested resource list is very informative and reading your responses to questions lets me compare coins I have to those others inquire about. I’m beginning to figure out what I have and, more importantly, what I don’t have - especially all those doubled dies that aren’t… I have a modest collection, mostly of coins passed on to me by family members. Those are older circulated US coins and late 1700s to mid 1900s world coins. I myself collected Kennedy Half Dollars, Bicentennial coins, a few small dollars and a jug of cents from circulation. Over the years I’ve en

Thought I had a major fined, a 1982 D small date 1c that weighed 2.82 grams and looked to me to be bronze. The coins reverse edge had been scraped and the planchet was a golden color. Zinc would show silver so I was sure I had something big. Had a metallurgical test done and it showed the coin is 65% zinc and 34% copper. The coin was designated zinc and I tried and tried but the graders would not budge, it was incapsulated a zinc with reverse damage. A 1c zinc should weigh 2.50 grams and contain 97.5% zinc with 2.50% copper plating. My coin is 2/3rds zinc 1/3rd copper, 13.6 times, more copper than it should, not enough to make it 1c bronze but I still think labeling it zi

New to all of this...found this in a corn field while metal detecting. I realize there is environmental damage from being in the ground potentially 230+ years. Looking for opinions the potential value as well as getting it conditioned and graded. I have only touched it with a toothpick. Thanks in advance for you input! Jim

I don't recall seeing any announcements about this. A while back, PCGS came out with a new slab with a really cool feature - tap the slab with your phone, and it brings up the PCGS verification page for that coin. I loved it - but I collect a lot more NGC graded coins than PCGS for various reasons. Just got a new coin today and noticed something cool. I didn't see any announcement, and I didn't see any threads on here talking about it. They've had a QR code to the reverse sticker. Admittedly slightly less convenient than the PCGS version, but it took my straight to the verification page. I could even directly add it to my Registry! I think this is cool, and (a

Was wondering what you can tell me about my find?

For those that wish, this is how it works. To start it off, post a pic of any commemorative half or any coin dated 1936. Let's say next someone post an image of a 1936 Washington quarter. You would now need to post a pic of the same type coin (a Washington quarter) or anything dated 1936. Let's see some cool coins.
