The second six digit cert # starting with a zero
Thanks again to David Lawrence Rare Coin Auctions, for another MS67 Mercury Dime this one a 1943S to upgrade the MS62 that is in my set. I again was the only bidder and bought the gem for 50% of the Numismedia value. I haven't had this much fun putting a set together since my Peace Dollars. Speaking of Peace Dollars it's time to start working on some upgrades Christmas is just around the corner. Don't take any wooden nickels
The fundamentals have not changed except .......
things are much worse.
I have written a number of times in the journal that metals gold, silver, platinum are the place to be $$ wise to protect ones nest egg.
Nothing has changed. The markets have yet to find the bottom. And every time things look like the bottom, there goes the floor.
I have used the price decline in commodites to buy, buy, buy.
I hope you have too.
Remember the cry, "Buy the dips!"
A rollercoaster this year!!
Greetings folks!! I have been away a bit lately getting my fantasy football team going, please pardon my absence.
I have been noticing the decline of silver and gold prices lately, and actually am pretty happy about it.
I am anticipating more affordability and the ability to purchase more coins next year if this trend keeps up. Earlier this year, silver hit $20 an ounce and thus made the purchasing of "raw" coins more expensive than even last year. And this ha

Stolen Morgan Dollar!!!!!
Superior Galleries was selling a few of my Morgan?s and one of my coins was stolen out of their possession!!!!!
Long story short:
I sent some PCGS graded Morgan?s to Superior Galleries for them to auction off for me. After the coin was withdrawn from its second auction, I received the following email:
?Dear Mr. Sachs,
We have some very unfortunat
it took a while to arrive
I finally received a coin from one of my favorite ebay sellers today. I ordered the coin about 2 weeks ago, but this ebay seller is in northwestern Canada and it usually takes a few weeks for my orders to arrive. This is just due to the postal services--this seller, along with my other top 10-12 favorite ebay sellers always sell fantastic coins and are reliable and trustworthy.
It's a great coin for my High Seas signature set, which has been built almost exclusively
You can't apply blanket statements like that to all eBay sellers.
I have never sold a coin on eBay, but I have bought a lot. In fact > 95% of the coins in my registry sets were purchased on eBay. I usually don't buy raw coins on eBay, unless it is from a seller I trust. I do buy NGC/PCGS slabbed coins all the time. I have close to 50 eBay saved searches that are emailed to me everyday, and I go through them every night. My eBay watch list is usually around 150 items, and a lot of the t
this has got to be a 10 yr old kid with delusions of granduer
enough is enough...I resent the allegation that all dealers on Ebay are frauds...and I resent your high and mighty tone of writing that indicates your feelings of superiority over the rest of us poor common peons. I am a native american and have to say, it is your type of jonny come lately that gives all the other imigrants a bad name. and as for the way you sign your name...we do not have royalty in this country..you want to be s
Where I was and how I got here.
When I was growing up I had to grow up fast. I came from a single parent family. Well one mom many dads. It wasn't much of a family but it was all I had. Until one actually befriended me.Shortly after that my mother dropped the proverbial "bomb" on me saying she was marrying this man,but it would not be her last marriage. This man became the person I know and love to be my "Dad".
He brought to my life a structure and sense of self that was never in my life
I had a package that was stuck at the Jackson, MS P.O. for 14 days.
Dinger just go away! Pick up your ball and go home.Maybe Dinger should join the PCGS collectors group! Then he could leave us alone! He absolutely doesn't have a foggy clue and I doubt that he will ever have a clue! The Post Office can do some funny things. I ordered a coin from a dealer in Virginia. The package arrived in Jackson(less than 100 miles from home)in less than 3 days. Usually it takes only one day for a package t
You make a good point but
I agree with some of the things Jason says about ebay but not all ebay dealers are bad coin dealers. There are some really good honest people out there like for one person i deal with from iceland. I won this coin i sent for gradeing for a two day service and it came back to me about two weeks later go figure with the hurricane. well the seller took back the coin and gave me the $50 bucks for the gradeing cost now this is a ebay dealer that has a wonderfull way to do
They lost 2 packages...back to back!!
They sure have got me spun up the last couple weeks!! The first package had a 2000 Millenium SAE and the tracking number showed that the package was accepted, processed, and moved on....to where...nobody knows!! Good ol' Post office says its "gone and lost forever"! The good news was that it was insured and the seller refunded the purchased price and said he would handle the headache of dealing with the post office to get the money back.
The second packa
Another First for THE DINGER
First Thing I want to say is that I apologize for setting off Jason Von Dinger. He answered my Journal entry of 9/10/08 with a less than civil message. This was before he had written any journals as a matter of fact is first Journal entry is in part the message that he set me I answered him back in my usual style. His next two journals are directed at me. I have solved my problem with him he has become my first entry on my ignore list and I hope my last. I think he
Do I need to say more....(yes... I know...some of you are saying "PLEASE DON'T")...sorry.
I was really ticked when I read the last post from Herr Dinger (Donger), telling the world not to buy coins from ebay. This statement alone would prove the lack of knowledge he claims to possess.
I have been a buyer/seller of coins on ebay for about 9 years. My feedback as of today is 1101, with a total feedback of 1442, which translate into a repeat business of 24%. In all of that I have received onl
I read a journal about never buying coins from a dealer that sells coins graded by the top two graders or as most sell from three graders (NGC, PCGS and ANACS). Now this advice has some truth to it, the writer shows a graded coin he buys from an EBay seller. I think the most accurate statement is don't buy from EBay dealer ever, for if you do you just picked up the devil. Strange think when picking-up the devil, sooner or later he will want to drive and drive you full speed into a wall.
I have
I never thought a contact mark could be a good thing
Yes you read that right...I never thought that I could conceive of a scenario where a nick or contact mark on a coin would be good. Well, maybe not good for the coin but it works for me.
As I mentioned in a journal entry several weeks ago, I have started a Mercury dime short set. It has been several months and I just picked up my 5th coin of the 15 coin set. My target grade was MS67 and I hoped to get FB's on the coins where the price
Cracked the top 10
Well it finally happened. I made the top ten with a competitive set. My Booker T. Washington set is currently #10 and when my other coin comes through the verification process I'll be in 9th and then I won't buy anymore BTW's for quite some time. My grades consist of MS65 & MS66. I wanted to stay Gem quality or better for longevity and investment potential. I suppose now I could sell my duplicates although they look really really nice so maybe I'll just hang onto them.
It appears R&K Trust's need to work on their understanding of dedication to training. I never said anyone would be a numismatic expert in two months, but it is start if you are willing to dedicate yourself to leaning. It looks R&K trust should take a breath and get some training. Member of the ANA R&K Trust?s statement take a breath get to Colorado Springs and take advantage to their excellent training. Or build your collection of the education of others. This makes you a collec
to be educated or blissfully ignorant...hmmm.
Dear Journal, I had to laugh at two recent posts. These coming from somebody who touts to be especially educated in numismatics. At first I thought, "This person cannot even spell, let alone be super educated as this person claims". Then I realized he is a foreigner, and just didn't bother to check the accuracy of his translation. So then I thought, "Well... how educated can they be that they don't check their work...hmmmmm". Then again, you ha
It has been over 3 years but I finally got the last coin I needed
WOW is all I can say tonight. I am as thrilled as a collector can get tonight after buying the final coin to complete my 1900 O/CC Morgan Doller VAM Set. I hope that some other collectors will join me and make themselves a part of those wanting to put this set together. There are currently 4 of us on the registry for this set. Come join us.
A couple of recent posts advocated education and one other respoded splendidly.
I am relatively new to coin collecting and don't even ask me to spell numis------- or I'll really show my ignorance. When I started a little over 2 years ago I made some very costly errors- mainly due to my own ignorance. Then I met a crusty old man even older than me who owns a coin store and has been dealing with coins for more years than anyone could believe. After he got through laughing at my know it all attit
