RE: Education
A couple of recent posts advocated education and one other respoded splendidly.
I am relatively new to coin collecting and don't even ask me to spell numis------- or I'll really show my ignorance. When I started a little over 2 years ago I made some very costly errors- mainly due to my own ignorance. Then I met a crusty old man even older than me who owns a coin store and has been dealing with coins for more years than anyone could believe. After he got through laughing at my know it all attitude he gave me what I believe is the best advice I ever received in regards to my coins. He said that I should make sure I have good eyes, a very good loupe, good lighting and at least 20 years experience before I start feeling like I really know much about this hobby. He also recommended reading everything I could about the hobby and especially about the particular coins I collect.I have taken steps to read, light, and have a good glass. Now if I can get Mr von Dinger to explain how to compress the experience requirement into a couple of months I guess I'll all of a sudden know everything about all coins. I just don't think I'll hold my breath.
