New slide show option

Best of the best I just spent a very enjoyable time enjoying the new slide show feature in the registry. About all I can say is that this is absolutely the best addition to this site that I have ever seen. Sad to say it just points out how bad my photographic skills are and how bad I need to follow closely our fellow members' offer to teach us (me) how to get good photos. I know it will take time but I promise I will improve.

Quality control????

How about getting what you paid for and accepted!!! A good axample of quality control is on display right now at heritage auction. A 1838 25C No drapery PCGS Graded MS 68 an currently listed to buy now for a paltry $280,000. Yes $280,000! Now maybe I missed something but it sure looks to me like the coin is in the holder upside down. 3 Quality control inspectors at PCGS. The coin owner. The consignment person at Hetitage. What am I missing?

American Arts Commemorative Series

I have the entire series If someone is looking for information about these gold coins I have a few suggestions to offer since I do own the entire series. NGC does not have a registry set that I have found for these - NOT COINs - GOLD Medals so if you want to view my collection you will have to go to my signature sets and look at the volumn titled Medals. This will give you the basic information only - but no specifics such as price etc. I haven't been able to find any source of such informat

American Arts Commemorative Series of Gold Medalions

I need help - Really I'm not beyond help as some people think. I have tried for some time now to dig up information on the American Arts Commemorative Series of Gold Medalions produced by the US mint between 1980 and 1984. These medalions were issued in 1 ounce and 1/2 ounce gold to honor selected well known persons in our history. As far as I know these were the only years they were sold. I have all of these except for the 2 issued in 1982 to honor Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Armstrong.

RE: Education

A couple of recent posts advocated education and one other respoded splendidly. I am relatively new to coin collecting and don't even ask me to spell numis------- or I'll really show my ignorance. When I started a little over 2 years ago I made some very costly errors- mainly due to my own ignorance. Then I met a crusty old man even older than me who owns a coin store and has been dealing with coins for more years than anyone could believe. After he got through laughing at my know it all attit

A lesson in learning

27 months ago I did'nt know a thing about coins but I have sure gained a lot of knowledge about how little I really knew. In May 2006 when I joined this Society I owned 2 years sets of the gold and 2 years set of the Platinum Eagles. At that time I owned no other graded coins of any sort but had just inherited 3 albums - Large Cent - Indian Cent - And Lincoln Cent and a couple handful of loose coins. Of course each album was missing a few coins here and there but I came up with the idea of a s

Due to registered mail probloems that were shipped 4 - 16 -08 I never worried about these inexpebnsive coins until they finally arrivvd on may 2 2008, When I got this registered packsge itis clearly stamped :missent to Vancouver,B.C. Changes in registry standings

My standings change all the time. For those of you who are concerned about your registry standings changing I would point out that there is more to consider than the revision of certain coin values. Often times you may be bounced lower when someone adds new coins and moves ahead of you in points. Other times someone who is ranked higher may decide to sell some coins and therefore reduce their ranking. In either case I personaly wouldn't worry about it. Just continue to enjoy this hobby (HABI

Registry Coins Scoring

The NGC Chrystal ball needs updating. I think it is about time that we all band together and ask/insist that NGC update its registry scoring system and coin pricing. I must admit that I only deal in cents - Large, Indian and Lincoln - but when I look at the registry values of recent coins (2000 - 2006) and see that the registry values were assigned on 1-1-2000 I have a real problem. I don't know what chrystal ball they looked at 6 years ago and determined how to rate/value coins this far in th

Why I selected my signature set of all US Cents 1793 through date

I found two coins in a desk drawer that led me to this selection. I am new to coin collecting but I have had two very good experiences that led me to adopt this signature set as a goal. First of all I recently submitted a penny for grading that came back as a 1909 S VDB MS 64. I took this coin out of a small envelope from where it was purchased and the price was noted as $2.25. The second coin I I found was a 1956 Flying Eagle 1 Cent uncirculated still being evaluated. I have no idea wh
