Buying Euros!

1.5 of them to be precise... A few days ago I ordered a pre-graded MS69 Austrian 2008 Vienna Philharmonic coin. It's a 1 oz 0.999 fine silver round just like the Silver Eagles. This is the first year that they've made them. It's really nice to be getting in on the ground floor with one of these series. The coin was given a face value of 1.5 Euros. That's indicated on the label as $1.5E so I guess NGC can't make that funny little E either. I ordered it for the signature set I'm working on th

September was a great month!

Additions to my collection. Boy, did I go crazy on the Silver Eagles in September. I did quite alot of OT at work and was able to pick up 9 coins, 8 of those were SAEs and 1 commemorative. I got an ungraded Proof 1995 50c Olympic coin. It has the baseball design and looks great. I am very happy with this coin. When I pick up a few more proofs, I will send them off to NGC and hopefully I will be able to get a 70 for 1 or 2 of them. The 8 SAEs are: 1990 MS-69 1994 MS-69 1998 MS-69 19

T-bird I tried to warn you Now you may see about what I was talking about. When you was so thrilled about buying proof 69 sacs,I tried to tell you that was not the way to go.I told you to buy 70's...I only did this because I cared about what grade you were buying.Coins are investments if you do it right.A lot of people in here was mad at me because of this.I got bad mouthed and people were downing me.A friend is someome wants you to better yourself. That was what I was trying to do.I am sorry yo

Update on coin sale

Bad experience selling some invertory.` As I posted some weeks ago I sent some coins to be sold at a dealer well that experience was not what I expected They made what i thought was a rediculious offer for a lot of 10 coins I certinlly hope I don't have to many more f these type of experiences in the future it's really depressing. when you work so hard to make the right purchase and then when you change course you get kick to the curb.

The Postman Brought Me A Nice Package

New acquisition to my half cent registry Just came today and it is an upgrade. This C-1 R3. die variety is much scarer than my previous C-3 R1. Purchased this MS-61 for cheaper than my previous AU-55. I guess the economy is dragging the coin business down lately. I have seen some good buys on several different auction houses. But that will be a different post.

Trying to do my part in building eBays reputation even higher...

Sure hope this is not bad form I wanted to mention this in my earlier post but didn't want to take away from the point I was trying to make. Now I am not sure if I am doing the right thing now. With all the back and forth sparing about buying and selling on e-bay, I decided to "off" some raw coins and go out of my way to treat people right. So several days ago I listed 48 items. If anyone is interested, it is under investor1908. Whether this is bad form or not, it will be my only m

It should be no surprise

There are plenty of honest E-Bay sellers You must know that there are plenty of E-Bay sellers that are members of this Collectors Society. I would venture a guess that only a small minority are not very honest. I have 100% feedback in over 1000 transactions. Because of a bad experience that I had in my first E-Bay purchase I made it my goal to make sure no one had that kind of experience when dealing with me. You have to remember you have more sellers on E-Bay than the population of a lot of c

The elusive Morgan VAM Discovery...

May be interesting to read for anyone who collects Morgan dollar VAMs and looks to attribute their collection or looks for the elusive discovery coin. I have been collecting coins on and off for several years. I wasn't really serious about my collection until I took over where my father left off when he passed away. The hobby became a passion as I looked to build upon what he had already started. Very soon after taking up his collection, I realized I was interested in other things. Morgan si

Honest Sellers are more prevalent than you think...

I also have been blessed by honest sellers on Ebay. I will sometimes buy mint sets and proof sets on a whim on Ebay, mostly because of price points. In August, I bought a mint set from an ebay member in Texas. He inadvertenly sent a proof set by mistake. He sent me an email prior to the wrong thing showing up and as a few of you have atested to he just told me to keep the proof set. Needless to say, I didn't feel right about keeping the proof set without paying for it, so I sent him the low

"Breath of fresh air" "Good Guys 2 Bad Guys 0"

It was really good to hear! I just wanted to make a comment on a few of the latest journals. After reading the back and forth about dishonesty of e-bay sellers by von dingbat or whoever he or she really is, and then to read posts about getting coins that were not ordered and sending them back so they would get to their rightful owner was a real breath of fresh air. This hobby can be very rewarding if we all just do the right thing. I am a firm beleiver in the law of resoprosity (hope I s

New Job, More money, and the Lucky Error

Keeping busy. The last couple of weeks have been interesting. I kinda just fell into a new job. Last week I had to wade through a bit of a rough transition that's not quite over yet but I'm hoping to get back to a more normal schedule with a few more hours per week. The good news though is that the new job pays 60% better so once my hour count comes back up I should have more money, more discretionary income, and be able to get some more of the coins I want for my sets. So that'll be good. I

The Hoarding of Buffaloes

Uncertain times bring people into the numismatic herd... Greetings!! So, I read in my local paper the other day that the Mint is out of stock of the 24k Buffalo coins. The article went on to talk about how people turn to metals as investments in uncertain economic times. This is certainly not a bad idea at all for investors who want to have the security of precious metals in their chosen portfolio. But, in my humblest opinion, if one is a COLLECTOR, it is a horrible decision to start t

My Free $3000 Coins !!

now it's time to send them back I don't know if it is a fluke or whether this kind of thing just happens every once in a while---however I got a package recently that wasn't mine. This is the third time that I have gotten coins in the mail that belonged to someone else. (actually twice with coins and once with notes--and I don't collect notes). Before anyone gets the wrong idea---of course I sent them back, but each time it gets just a little harder. The first time was a note/bill tha

My Congo collection

It's Growing My Congo collection continues to grow. I have added several great coins to this stunning collection. Sadly I have missed out on a few coins that would have been great additions. I can thank one person in particular that could have helped me but chose not to. What a . Oh well, we can't get them all now can we? Or can we? I will certainly keep on trying. After looking through many of the other sets on here I truly believe that Part 1 and 2 of my Congo sets are some of the

Ozark's Thundering Herd

Buffalo's from the past. Hello my name is Jerry from Springfield,Mo. I started collecting in the early 1960's. My senior year (1966) I sold my coins and bought a year old 1965 GTO. After high school Uncle Sam sent me to Germany and then to South Viet-Nam with the 101st Airbourn Division. On July 2nd 1970 I was wounded in defence of Fire Base Ripcord and sent home. Now the coins and car are gone and I give the next 30 years to Southwestern Bell. In 2000 I retired and got the bug to collect agai

Maybe I'll look for the matching proof and I need the Civil war proofs also. I got and added a 1943S MS67 Mercury Dime to my short set. Got a great deal and I

Didn't know we can sell coins through this media?

Yes, I did. But it brings me to e-bay, bottom-fishers, and the apparent state of the economy. I thought I would try to sell some extra coins I had on e-bay, but apparently with the economy all we have is ?bottom fishers?. I tried to sell the 2008 bald eagle commemoratives (all six including the gold) for what I thought was a very attractive buy-it now, only about $200 over mint, grading and e-bay fees. I received one offer for $800 for all six graded by NGC, all 70s. The cost on the coins f

What a year its been

To OCD or not to OCD. I was just thinking that I'm at or near the one year point of my collecting hobby and I thought it'd be a good time to reflect. I'll list my coins that I bought this past year. Well I won't list them all individually but I'll group some to keep the list shorter. My way of thinking when I started was to collect all coinage (regular) in Proof/Silver Proof and Mint State Sets. So I have silver proof sets from 1992-present, proof sets from 1956-present and Mint sets from 19
