Its done!
I finally finished and posted the video on the Morgan Dollar the other day. The link to the video is listed below:
I never did find any photographs of George Morgan but I think it turned out nice in the end without them. The video was trumped by another video I release on green screen so it has only got around 800 views since this journal entry. I posted it in several coin forums in order to get more people to watch it. I've started editing the next video but I probably will n

What do you think NGC Graded?
I bought this 1901 IHC proof a while back and it has deep reflective mirrored fields and contrasting devices. The toning is also very nice. What do you think it graded?

....or a day at a coin show.
Saturday afternoon was such an enjoyable and stress relieving time. I normally work Saturday's, and then my weekend is Sunday and Monday. I took a day of vacation though, as there was a small coin show in Keokuk, which is about 24 miles south of me.
It's a really small show, maybe 8-10 dealers. However, there was one dealer there I hadn't seen before, he had a lot of nice currency. Unfortunately, the ones I wanted were well out of my price range, but I sure had a
The coins I purchased in October
October was a special month for me. I finished my collection of MS SAEs! I devoted alot of attention to these coins over the last 8 months and was very satisfied when I got the last coin of this series. All I have to do is keep up with the yearly additions when they are available from the Mint.
These were the last of the SAEs that I bought in October:
1992 MS-69
1996 MS-69
2000 Millennium MS-69
The Millennium was the last one I received and I believe
I really should stop reading these journals...
Everytime I read someones journal about how they are changing their focus or trying to simplify their holdings, I take it personal and think maybe I'm too spread out, have too many sets, need to get my act together, etc., etc. So here goes...my November resolution is 1)to concentrate on some of my older mint sets, 2)sell all of my Morgan S$ that don't fit in my mint sets, and 3)use the funds to upgrade my gold coins. There, I've made a commitment
A Failed Mouse can sure cost some money
I've finally recieved the fruits of my mistake. During the last Long Beach auction, I had bid on a few coins through ebay, and thought that I would watch the goings on. During the auction I thought that I might still be interested in bidding on a few more. As the coins were running through, at a very fast pace I might add. My cordless mouse started to fail. After banging my mouse around frantically, and realizing that I need to change the batteries, that
A great find at a great price - presistence pays off!
I just finished completing my modern silver quarter collection in NGC PF70. After a few months of haggling I completed the silver quarters from 1992-1998 for about $750 to go with my 50 state quarters in PF70. With a very low mintage and population of the 1992 - 1998 coins I found this a good deal considering a 1999 Delaware in PF70 sells for about $6,000 now and it has a population of 222. I thought I was out of mind paying $1000 for th
Trying to get my Registry Sets in Order
Over the last several months I have been on a selling spree. I have sold over 50% of my certified coins & reduced the number of competing sets in half. I was way out of control when it came to buying coins & I needed to make a change in my collecting priorities. I was buying coins that I did not collect just for the sake of buying them and then creating sets to put them in, knowing that I would never add another coin to that set. This had to stop
....they fly by when we're working on our collections I guess.
It's November 1st already, another year (for me) has went by. Only a few minor purchases since I wrote last; another Franklin half, a French 1 1/2 Euro that will be put into my World War 2 signature set and a few raw coins that may or may not be sent in for grading.
What has really been eating up the time is redoing most of my coin pics. I really do like my Pentax digital cam and I feel it will turn out some gorgeous pictures onc
"The Granite Lady"
I have been watching this coin for a while now, and it got
cheap enough I could not pass it up.
Looking back at the past few months I have really added several
coins to my collection,, as this year comes to a close I think
these will be about all I add this year, due to christmas and all coming up for the kids.
But I look forward to see everyone else's coin pics on here and reading their journals. So keep em coming and happy hunting.
... I really hope I'm on a roll with my pictures.
Here's the reverse of the 1921-D Morgan. It's raw, stored in an AirTite holder. To me, this pic shows exactly what I'm looking for in a coin photo. I want them sharp so the lettering pops out at you. (Maybe the best to put it is, I want the almost 3D effect) Everything is very readable, and the colors are really close to the actual coin.
I still think the holders have something to do with it. Especially for me, I don't have professional equip
There have been some tough economic times for for this year....
Greetings.
You all know the old addage when things are not going well, we often joke "well, at least I still have my health."
And I have said that more than once this year. And not really in a joking tone either!! It has been tough.
There were even some moments when I thought about maybe selling off my collection and then just buying the whole set "when I was more able". But, we all know that particular day sometimes

Great news !
I wonder how long until I can put my 1937 gold set as a competitive set ! it will be at around $12,000 USD cost when complete - all 4 coins PF66 CAMEO (I'd expect 12,000+ points right?)
May I now present the first NGC competitive set for Great Britain. My 1821-1828 half sovereign set

I have also updated my sovereign type set for Australia in anticipation of progress for our sets too. (I'd expe
Try and guess the grade?
This is a 1900 IHC proof graded by PCGS. I love this series and the beautifully toned coins you can acquire. I am also a fan of other toned series such as CBH, Lincolns, Morgans and many others. There are many that prefer the blast white or reds but I prefer mine with some color!
I'm sure this has never happened to you.
Here I am trying to save up for an 1893-O S$ in ms63, which for me is a very pricey coin, and I found one at an excellent price, but wait....I find an Indian Head cent for only $$$ and then a Barber quarter for $$$, etc. Then I remember all of the 'good buys' that got away. I know that coins just as nice will come up again and probably before I can afford them. What is a numismaniac to do?
Happy hunting all.
I need input from the best of you.
I am in the process of selling out most all ...if not maybe every coin that I have. The economy has hit hard. So.. I am looking for input as to the best way to sell out and get the most for my collection. Teletrade? Heritage? EBay? I have had a few contacts from this collection site and have been offered less than anywhere I have ever sold before. I know you all are looking for the best deals you can get also... but... anyway I do really respect all your
Do you love the monster.
What dose one have to do, to be able to buy Green Monster Silver eagle boxes from the US Mint directly? I want to buy 1000 Silver Eagles coins and 500 1/10 gold eagles coins.
2009 will be exciting!!
Well, it's that time of the year again to look ahead if you had a so-so year...or to look back if you had a good year.
I am gonna look ahead!!
2009 promises to be exciting for our collective numismania as we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Penny...which means your 1909's will OFFICIALLY be antiques!! I am proud to own a 1909 VDB penny which I will have graded as soon as funds allow.
Also, the Mint will be issuing new pennies highlighting

I started editing the second video in the coin series "Spare Change" that I'm releasing on the website youtube. The first video was about coin collecting do's and dont's. The second video production in the line up is about the Morgan Dollar. Currently, I'm trying to make the documentary more interesting so that everyone that views the video (collector and the average non-collector) will be entertained. I have a basic draft in the editor but now I have to add all the
new guidelines
Another great thing about the hobby is the liberty to collect what and how we like. I try and set a goal for each set I start--sometimes it's to build a #1 set, sometimes to just crack the top 25. Sometimes the only goal is to try and complete the nicest set possible with every coin at $100 or less. Some sets, like my sailing ship coin set, I have changed the rules as I go along, usually expanding the criteria to be more inclusive.
Last night however I broke a rule/goal in t
It;s been a great run for sure.
About 6 years ago I got back into coin collecting. My initial goal was to fill in the Dansco Books just like I had wanted to when I was a kid, like my father before me and my brothers. Aftr a few years, I began to focus on nicer looking coins and onto graded coins. I have obtained over 1,000 graded coins and have proudly built some of the nicer registry sets in the world. Unfortunately, due to the economy and other considerations I have been forced to revert
