The Civil War was not fought for humanity,

Can you guess why it was fought? If not read on. The Civil War was not fought for humanity, but for the control of money. Is it possible that the Civil War was fought for reasons other than those traditionally offered? Is it possible that the real reasons for the war are among the secrets that some wish not to be revealed? Is it possible that slavery and states rights were not the real cause of the War?   After the demise of the Second Bank of the United States, the state banks, those

THANKSGIVING NEVER ENDS

AFTER A PERFECT 10, I SETTLED FOR A PAIR OF NINE. I am so fortunate to have been able to obtain a goal. A little sacrifice paid off. I am proud to add 2 more #1 Sacagawea sets in the Registry. I am thankful to those who helped me acquire these fine coins. Like everyone else, I believe I have the best sets in the Registry. I am thankful to know I have, at least, a few good ones. Thank you all!

bad coin

NGC disappoints me I purchased a 50 cent piece (2008S Kennedy Clad PF70). Upon inspection it had a very obvious flaw on the obverse. I would expect a little more from one of the top grading companies. It is not a minute spot that is only visible with a 10x magnifier, but it is in plain sight! I wear glasses, but I can see this flaw without my glasses. I was under the impresion that there were at least 2 or 3 people that reviewed each coin. There is no way this could have slipped by 4 eyes let

Got my eyes opened a little today

I don't know if I'll be submitting any more Moderns. Might just be better to buy them already graded. I have some holes to fill in my Statehood Quarters collection. Quite a few, actually, and I just happened to see that some 2001 and 2003 Silver quarters, NGC-graded PF69 UC were going for dirt cheap on eBay. While I'd much prefer 70s (who wouldn't?), I figured if I could fill a couple of holes for next to nothing (I picked up a Silver Alabama PF69 UC for $5.77), then what the heck. I felt so

Oh My God (dramatic pause)...........................................

The mind screw of the Century (21st Century Type Set Proof Only that is) So I am reading what Jackson (I think wrote) about the Registry and good luck, etc. I know you all get tired of hearing whiners like me BUT..........................I was just looking through the various sets I have to see where they are comapartively when I come across the 21st Century Proof Type Set, a wussy category for sure, but one in which I received a lovely certificate from NGC recognizing that perfection (in the

Last Chance for "Skinny Chickens"

I love emails from the mint So, today I got my email from the Mint letting me know it was "Last chance for Bald Eagle Comemms" and it reminded me how much I do love that coin....well, coins. I own the Proof version and the uncirc, and I'll never forget the day I got them in the mail and immediately nick-named them "skinny chickens" as the Great Seal of the United States...did not really look so "great" at first...the bald eagle in the seal (to me anyway) looked like a "skinny chicken". More reflections...on the future

Our kids are our future. Several people were kind enough to comment on my post from last night. I really think it's important to teach the next generation, whether it's about numismatics or any other subject. Our kids are our future. Helping kids appreciate coin collecting is a great way to teach about finance, history, art appreciation, and even geography (with the State Quarters). Helping a child fill the pages of a cheap coin album is not a great expense, but it pays great divi

A PERFECT 10 ???

Do I merit a higher score? I wanted to have the best of something to pass on. I believe the 10 Sacagawea NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo should be at the top. I believe them to be better than just a set of 9. Should a new score of 4681 be in line? I am close to finishing at least 1 more Sac set in PF 70 UC(only 9)and perhaps another if I can find them. Well, it's all over for this year, but I will strive to get at least 1 honor in the future. I would like to thank all those that helped me. I wou

"Thank You" To All that Challenged Me

I loved the competition It is the end of the year for the Registery Awards. My accomplishments and losses have been a great strugle.Unlike some collectors,my collection is vastly spread out.It gets hard to focus on one thing. One of my main goals was to rank at least 150.I did not make it. I like all different kinds of american coins and I try to only have the best of the best.Last year I mainly focused 70% on Roosevelts. This year only 20%.This is one of the many reasons I did not make the roose

Reflections...from a proof ultracameo?

As another eventful year comes to a close, it's only natural to think about the future.... The kids are asleep-for now-and I'm sitting at my desk looking over a couple of proof coins I recently bought from my birth year. As the light refelects off the smooth, mirror-like surfaces, it occurs how lucky I am to be able to enjoy this great hobby and share it with others. I enjoy reading the posts in this forum, and check in a few times a week to see what's going on with my fellow collectors

A Busy Coin Day

21 "new" coins It has been a busy day with my collection...I love it !! I got back my NGC submission today and now it's time for the other parts of the hobby I enjoy. It is definitely about the coins, however I really get a lot of enjoyment out of taking the pictures for the sets & listings...also I really enjoy learning new stuff, so researching info for the desciption is a lot of relaxed enjoyment also. For pictures, I still have my Sony Mavica 10x zoom. This camera is so out of da

MOVIN' ON UP

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble. Well, I went and did it. I started a set of Presidential Dollars in PF 70. I am proud to have another #1 ranked set. After trying to get some nice photos of the obverse, I opted to leave the reverse scans for now. I am going build a photo booth (miniature) for at least the obverse. I'll see soon if it works. I have a good set to work with. It'll need to be good enough to present it properly. I want to at least get an "Honorable Mention" by someone.

The trip is over!

21st Century Set Well, I haven't been posting lately. Due to health issues I have slowed down, but now on the way back! I decided to try a 21st Century Set and promised myself that I would have it complete in 70 by the end of the year. (Rank #4) I spent 8 weeks compiling it and now I can sit back and look at my accomplishment. But it is also a let down because the chase is over! The only thing holding me back from being in the #1 group is pictures. I guess rather than buying that next coin I

Looking Back : 2008

As 2008 draws to a close, it only seems natural to reflect upon the events that have brought you to today. Christmas is coming and I have visions of sparkling gold and silver coins dancing within my head. The haves and the wants; the gems and the duds. How far have I come, and where will this lead? On the financial front we've all be part of the Beast. A roller coaster with predominently breath-taking drops followed by brittle ascents, only to be dropped again. Gold has seen $1000 ounce, but

(Another) Close to the End of the Year Journal Entry

As the old year ends, hope for the best of the next year begins. Greetings!! Well, I am sure that most of you who collect Modern coins have been following the spot prices daily in the money section in your paper, or right here on the NGC site, and I am sure most of you will note that the platinum prices are about ONLY $100 less than that of gold right now. This (hopefully) will mean lower prices from the Mint to all of us, and IF that holds true, it will mean my first foray into collect

THE GREATEST HOAX ON EARTH

Our money system in a nutshell. TREATISE, Of the U.S. Constitution and our Money System: To fully understand money as used in the United States, let me review a little history before and after the adoption of the United States Constitution. During the years immediately preceding the adoption of the Constitution, mobs drove our Congress from Philadelphia into New Jersey and shot up the courthouses in Massachusetts. These events were illustrative of the general situation existing throughout th

Congrats to Everyone

Ending this off right This has always been an interesting time of the year for me. It so happens that the last set of finals to be taken at Texas A&M this semester end within 1 hour of the registry deadline. Wednesday is a pretty cool day I guess. I'll be taking my last final on Tuesday though (and boy do I feel the pressure). But getting back to point: I think everyone that has a #1 set in the registry deserves some congratulations. At the same time though, everyone that has a nice #2 s
