1810 C-1 Classic Head Half Cent NGC AU-53 in new NGC Holder

Rare in higher grades It took me several years to find a 1810 half cent in about uncirculated condition. A 1810 half cent graded in MS-63 condition sales for about $4000 if you can even find one. The 1810 half cent striking on the obverse is usually weak on the right side. This results in the six stars on the right being flat. Most of these are of the late die state and grading will take that into account. This particular coin is very clean on the fields and the devices. I also just recently b

Platinum and Gold...the SAME PRICE????

Amazing what happens when the speculators on Wall Street go home... Greetings!! Well, as is my daily routine of checking the metal prices in my daily news, I have been noting that the plat and gold prices are almost exactly the same. I cannot for get the days of 1,000 dollar an oz. plat last year, and feeling like I would never be able to afford a plat coin. If this keeps up, I'll be able to afford maybe a few!! I am hoping to obtain at least one next year. I am also looking forwa

A very lucky purchase

1927 Canberra Florin PROOF I am fortunate enough to now own a lovely proof canberra florin, 400 minted in 1927. Many circulated, they were a public issue proof I have seen horrible badly polished ones, this one has only circulation hairlines and I can't really find any wear either. Its definitely a proof, has wire rims and the right strike characteristics, some mirror left but not deep Probably going to NCS.. I would dearly love to see it in a NGC PF61 holder. The 2 Coins I Am Most Excited To Submit

Believe it or not, they're NOT my Silver Eagles With my Collectors Society package on the way, and with an ample amount of coins I am just chomping at the bit to submit, I have been gawking at the ones I am going to send to NGC soon, which include my 08 Silver Eagles (Proof and Uncirc.) my 08 Bald Eagle Comemms ( Skinny Chickens, Proof and Uncirc) I also have a 1928 Peace Dollar (not not Philly...unfortunately) a couple of Morgans...BUT the 2 coins I am daydreaming most about is my 1909 VDB Li

Lets not feel to sorry for the Dealers

Most enjoy large discounts No one reading this has to believe it, but most coin dealers who submit coins to the 3 best grading services enjoy benefits we will never see. First this is how it goes you submit 1000 Morgan Dollars, you stipulate that you only want the coins that are MS64 and above graded when the lot is completed you pay $6 for every MS64 $7 for every MS65 $12 for every MS66 you pay nothing for coins that don't meet this criteria. That means no body bags. There maybe a small surch

Coin Collecting Over Time - Pass it On

My collecting emphasis has changed over the years, my appreciation hasn't. Ever since I was a boy I always took the time to look closely at coins. I was intrigued by the different colors and the different dates. That was the sort of thing that caught my eye. I love coins and what they represent. As a young man, I inherited a modest collection of US coins. It was the spark that got me to do my own work and make the collection better. I made good friends with the local bank tellers as a re

IGNORANCE ABOUT MONEY AND OUR FAILING ECONOMY

In a nutshell here's how we came to this station in our economy. IGNORANCE ABOUT MONEY Here's what John Adams had to say about the subject of money: "All the perplexities, confusion, and distress in America arise not from defects in their constitution or confederation. Not from want of honor or virtue so much as from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation." It is not widely known that the Constitution deals with economics, and most people are surprised to learn t

I disagree on a gold explosion

World Economy is bad Everyone knows that when the economy does bad, gold and silver goes up.That is only half the truth.Right now the world economy is not doing good.Gold fell from 1200.00 to 850.00 per ounce as soon as the world ression started. Not too many people are worried about gold and silver.People are losing there holmes, jobs are becoming scarce,Grocies are going up and the only thing going down in price is gasoline,go figure. This is happening all over the world.Too many credit cards at

I Am Again a Paid Member

Made a sacrafice to give myself a present... Greetings folks!! You know I HATED it when my paid account expired here and I knew I HAD to find a way to get back into the fray. So, tonight I upgraded my account back to paid status, and I will soon be submitting some great coins to my registry, and I really cannot wait to feel that anxiety again. The collecting of my Silver eagles is really the one thing I can say I am thoroughly passionate about, and without being as active in the pur

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year with the coming Gold Explosion

If you think Gold is weak your wrong it's about to explode!!! Despite a drop in prices, the gold bull market is about to get stronger. The fundamentals supporting today's gold bull market have intensified exponentially over the past several years. And now the powder keg is getting ready to blow. When it does, investors who own gold, gold stocks, and other gold-related investment vehicles will reap handsome rewards. Sure, some rewards will be larger than others. Gold stocks, for example,

National Parks Commemorative Quarter Series Passes Congress

They've gone too far IMO Okay... So, we've had 10 years of state quarters. Then they extended that to an 11th year for places that aren't states, some of which have rejected statehood several times. Meanwhile, we got the Westward Journey nickels, and the Presidential Dollars, and the Sacagawea, and soon we'll get different penny reverses and changing sacagawea reverses. And now this new 10 year joke. What's the deal here? Isn't some of this what the commemoratives and the bronze medals are for

Just waiting for my part of the bailout!

Deficit spending to new heights (or is that lows?). With all this talk about OUR government buying an interest in poorly run companies and bailing out those poor unfortunates that bought more house than they could afford, I figure it must be my turn. All I have to do is stop making my mortgage payments for about 3-4 months and I will qualify for my own little 'bailout'. With that in mind I have gone on a spending spree and probably will need bailouts for 2010 and 2011 also. Isn't this fun,

A GIFT OF LOVE

PAWPAW My Dad collected coins when I was a child, and I never had much interest in them. I liked fast cars and girls, not necessarily in that order mind you. Then the love of my life came in Nov. of 1971. We were married June of 72 and our first child was born June of 73. I started my collection in 1999 when our first grandchild a baby girl Allison was born. My wife and I were at a Hotel in Kentucky and I was looking at a news paper and saw a ad of a $100 dollar silver bar from the Franklin Mi

The Drive to Complete My GAE 1/4 oz Sets

Now that the fractionals are no longer to be minted, I have new motivation to complete the sets. I need a total of 17 more 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles to complete both sets. I need 5 Uncirculated and 12 Proof. So far it seems that the Proof 1/4 oz coins are easier to find than the remaining needed Uncirculated 1/4 oz coins. I want to finish them before the prices rise too much more. This 2008-W 1/4 oz was purchased on eBay already graded for less than I could buy it from the Mint raw.

More purchases in gold proof eagles

US Mint Since apparently this is the last year for fractionals, I thought it prudent to buy a 1/4 oz and two 1/10 oz proofs to go with my 1/2 proof (which graded 70) The buffalos are already no longer available. It might be time to act if you feel the same way as me, they will be gone soon too Another platinum eagle set is next on the agenda. The 2008 fractions are all gone now and how long will a 2007 issue last ? if platinum goes up at all they will discontinue and melt IMO

Addendum to my last post

I don't know, but I'm thinking that submitting anything recent may be a waste of money... Just won a set of 5 Silver 2008-S Statehood Quarters, graded PF70 UC by NGC for a tad over $100.00. My last submission to NGC, which cost me over $70, not including the postage to deliver them to NGC, netted me 5 PF69 UC Quarters. That really has me thinking now...

Re: My eyes got opened today

Let's flip the coin! I realize that an individual is happy when they receive coins at bargain basement prices especially 70s, I am in the same company. But how long do you think a dealer will be in business is they purchase 5 silver quarters at $26.00 have them graded at $12.50 @ piece and has to pay shipping both ways and they have to sell them at slightly over $100? Well let's do the math: $26.00 + 62.50 + 10.00 shipping + let?s say e-bay and pay pal fees of 10.00. Well that's a conserv
