And the coin of the month for November is...
An 1864 piece. It is graded MS-65RB by PCGS. The toning has a light bluish-violet cast to it. The luster is a strong full cartwheel. It is a much more lively piece that my photos show. An interesting obsolete coin minted during the civil war. The spot the photo shows over the shield is on the holder.
The AUD is taking another beating.. so.. hello eBay US
I have listed GB gold, aussie gold, and a signed F1 part
1797 GB 1/3 Guinea AU55
1798 GB 1/3 Guinea AU55
1804 GB 1/2 Guinea MS61 Cheshire Collection
1873S Australia 1 Sov NGC AU55 Reserve Bank Of Australia
1912M Australia 1 Sov NGC MS64
1914S Australia 1 Sov NGC MS64
Somebody stop me.. I need the money but some of these coins are really hard to sell without crying. The 1798 1/3G for example blows the 1797 away, the luster and
my best and worst collecting disseions?
I started the year look to complete some of my collections, such as my PCGS Sacagawea dollars and i did that as well as completing my state quarter collection though i did not complete my Franklin halves i did manage to add to my collection and i hope to add to my lincoln cent collection with the release of the four new lincoln cents next year? AS for my worst decision was the purchase of an sgs graded coin.
What's All The fuss
I just got back a submission today. I have to admit, I LOVE THE NEW HOLDERS!! With the coins that I had submitted, They show very nicely with the new holders. The light catches the coin better, the rim of the coin stands out better, and it appears that if I laid the coin down on a colored felt background, the coin would stand out, for a picture very nicely. Believe me, the coin is not in a mini tunnel anymore, and it really shows off alot more beautifull than with the old h
Lower Prices Are comming!!
I noticed that the US Mint has suspended sales for most gold & platimum coins. I was told the mint was in the process of repricing and new (lower) prices will be posted tomorrow. For you buffalo hunters it looks like the 4 piece proof set will be about $200 lower.
Happy Hunting!!
Slowly things are coming together nicely
Yesterday my gold proof eagles sold at a tidy profit, listed only on eBay from when I listed at night until I woke up with an offer ! thanks mainly to the US to AUD conversion, I made a bit on them..
And then there was the email.. US Mint, refund completed. 619.95 US for a Jacksons Liberty (I still have two, one is a definite 70)
At the going rate, it should be around 930 AUD or a profit of $200 on the refund.. well how could things get any better ?
Alright so I broke them out of holders
I break 4 coins out of holders. It's my thought that grading standards are loosening up and higher grades are pretty likely (see Bust Half Dollar previous AU-58 now PF-63 (what the hell is that all about). I send in a 1909-S VDB graded XF-40, a 1909-S VDB graded VF-20 a 1909-S graded VG-10 and a 1922 STRONG reverse. Here's the initial result posted on the "invoice" 1909 VDB (note no S), 1909 VDB (again no S), 1922 Plain WEAK reverse and 1909-S. Final
the next video:
Well I normally do a pre-journal on my video production work on the next coin video but I lapsed on that this pasted week.. Any how I finished post-production on the third episode of the series called "Spare Change" The third installment talks about the liberty head (coronet) double eagle. Is similar to the last video about the morgan dollar, but I think the beginning of the liberty head is a little weak. In the beginning I talk about James Longacre and Franklin Peale's little
Looks impressive!!
Greetings, and Happy Veterans Day to my fellow US citizens, and all the best to my fellow world citizens.
I got a pretty large envelope in the mail the other day from the Mint containing the 2009 gift catalog chock full of coins from 2008, and a great preview of the new St Gaudens high relief coin.
It even features some edge encrypting like our prezzies, which leads me to wonder when, not if the error coins with no edge lettering is going to come about. I do realize th
What a show...
I attended CoinFest this weekend with my father. It was one of the best coin shows that I ever went to. I couldn't go on Friday for I was sick, but Saturday was awesome. . I was pretty disappointed because I was going to work for Eye Appealing Coins on Saturday, but because I didn't walk the floor on Friday, like I was supposed to, I unfortunately couldn't.
When we first got there, the atmosphere was great. We got our name tags and immediately hit the floor. The first table we
New Acquisition Arrives!
I can't imagine a dealer requiring the above condition for change of ownership, but that was a transaction requirement when this coin last changed hands. The coin in question is a "holed" 1922 Peace Dollar with VF-35 details.
The offerer of the coin was my father, and my mother was the recipient, during their early dating years. Mom recently cleaned out a safe deposit box and sent me two coins; the 1922 and a more worn 1923-S dollar. Only the '22 comes with a stor
Bust Half Dollars?
I have found a newly acquired passion for Bust Half Dollars. I became tired of type coins because everyone was doing them and they were too easy to find. There were really no key dates or any rarities that you really need to search for. I decided to do Bust Half Dollars about 2-3 weeks ago. I have found that Bust Half Dollars are beautiful coins and there are many coins that in there that are very tough to get. I wanted to find a set that would be hard and that I can work on
Do you know?
I realize that the new NGC holders have new security measures on the back. However, I have seen some with prongs that enable you to see the edge like the presidential and other with no prongs like the conventional holders. It seems the only consistency is that all coins with edge lettering have prongs. But I have seen other coins with no edge letting with prongs also and some like the convential holders. How do you know what you will get? Pronged or non-pronged. In addition, w
often, more than we realize.
This time of year, we all take stock of what we have and will, in some very small way, say "thanks". The question is, do our actions live up to our words? Do we really mean what we say, when we say "Thank You"?
I try to thank God first and always, but I must admit I am not always on top of that. It has been a rough year. I changed jobs, and while I took a pay cut, I love the job. I felt God telling me at the time, "Don't worry about the money". Economic interes
"Appreciating the Coin vs. the Grade"
Coins have taken a backburner in my life over the past few months, due to an extensive home renovation project. I've made no purchases for nearly 20 weeks, and visited the safe deposit box only once since mid-summer.
So, last week, I decided to bring home a couple of collections to get reacquainted- Standing Liberty Quarters and Buffalo Nickels. I examined the quarters closely over the last couple of days and found myself thrilled with rediscovering the
What is your opinion of coin and new holder?
Just got back a 1835 Classic Head Half Cent. NGC cracked it out of old holder and sent it into NCS for some work. NCS did a great job. What would you think it graded?
How do they rate?
I am considering purchasing a Canadian coin graded by ICCS ( I beleive this is the main Canadian grading service). Need some opinions on how they rate and do you think it would be a grade for grade exchange with NGC on crossover? Any comments appreciated!
I'm not sure what to do.
Well friends, I live the life of a poor college student. I live most of the year in a small dorm. My parents pay for my tuition, phone and car insurance. I work a part time job to pay for my food, medicine and most anything else I want while I'm up here. What's left after I pay for the necessities becomes my coin budget (coin collecting crowds pretty much everything else out of the discretionary budget).
1 other thing does manage to complete with the coins though. I
found some new sets listed
I try not to post more than once a week at most but a few things have happened that I wanted to journal about.
The first thing I wanted to mention is that NGC has added some new listings for the Modern Canadian series. The reason this got me excited was that one of the series is the $20 Tall Ships series. I've mentioned a few times of how only about 25% of my collection is actually worth any registry points because of the obscure ( and even no longer existing) coun
Taking inventory of the collection and the collector....
Greetings!
Well, the chill of November is here and the first snow has fallen as I write this.
There is something about this time of the year that gives me a reason to slow down a bit and take inventory of the experiences and times that the past year has brought to me. So much to give thanks for as I will soon celebrate my favorite holiday which is Thanksgiving.
I will never be able to express the joy and longing collectin
my monthly coin budget lasted 3 days
Before it sounds like I'm complaining, first let me say that I am grateful that I can afford myself a small monthly "coin allowance". I must say however that it sure goes awfully fast !!
I have put away a little extra the past few months, partially as common sense during these economic times, and partially for a higher dollar purchase.
I know that it's a bit early for a "Year End Review" but I had 3 primary coin goals this year. These goals aren't quite
...trying to adjust my focus.
If any of you have been following my refocusing efforts, you will probably notice I deleted my Indian Cent set. You may be wondering why, as I can understand the thinking that it would be a prime set to have, considering my interest in the west.
I'll have to concede you'd be right, but there's a couple of big reasons why I did this. First, I've come to the conclusion the design is not quite right to me from a purely western standpoint, as I don't believe the hea
