Forgot about this set!

Prestige Proof Sets I totally spaced that I have all of the Prestige Sets. None are graded but I own them all and they are all very clean and very nice. I doubt if they ever get graded. I should check to see if there is a set for this and if anyone has graded any of them. I'll let you all know what I find. Have a nice weekend.

Ole Hickory, another dime UPS delivered my 2008 silver proof set todayI got the Andrew Jackson P in an MS66. Right now the MS67 is way out of my range. I am looking for a d but will surely settle for an MS65 the D's are way out of sight in MS67 and 66. Won another David Lawrence auction A very nice 1945S Mercury Dime in MS67 an only bid win and can't beat the price anywhere. The 2008 silver proof set came today and is going back tomorrow one of the lenses was cracked and the coins look like

1853/2 California Fractional G50c BG-409

Please don't begrudge my fun! Isn't it amazing how you can be collecting for years (in my case over 50) and all of a sudden a certain coin or series kinda 'jumps' out at you. You're like a little kid again, oh, the palpitations! This coin is a ms62PL, the only PL by either service in all grades. Please understand that I worked, saved, and invested for over 40 years so I would be able to buy coins like this and hopefully you will be happy for me, like I am for other members when they share t

Wonderful Friends in the Hobby

package from Australia Is it strange to say that someone you've never met in person is a "trusted and true" friend? Maybe in our age of blogs and chat boards and on-line hobbies and communication it is not such an odd thing to think or feel. Since I've been collecting I've had some wonderfully generous acts of kindness done for me. On one website that I am a member of--tradingslabs.com----we do these kinds of things for eachother frequently. If any of us spy a coin that we know another co

Navigating the US Mint Site is NOT Always Easy

I can't seem to find the status of the 2008 Prezzies anywhere...sold out, etc. I hope everyone who has had the opportunity to celebrate Labor Day has had a great holiday this past weekend. I like to go the the US Mint web site and see if the coins I have bought from them are still available or if they have sold out. This gives me an unofficial idea of whether the coins I have bought are especially popular, or have a lower mintage, etc. I have noticed that the Proof Silver Eagles for 2008

Is this going to far? Was wondering if anyone else uses some sort of the plastic sleeve protectors that slides over the slabbed coin , just to help in protecting the slab. Was looking to get some , but not sure as to what or where to get them, and was just wondering if anyone else out there uses them, and if so could you share with me where to get them at. thanks for any info. August in Review

My collection in August August was a slow month for my collection. I was on vacation for the first 2 weeks and when I got back I could only find 2 coins that really jumped out at me. The first was a 2005 SAE MS-69. This coin put me over the 50% mark on my MS collection for SAEs and my goal is to complete this collection by the end of the year. The other coin I got was the beautiful 1991-1995 W.W.II Silver Dollar commemorative. I got its companion...the 50c piece...awhile back and it's nice t

Coin of the Month for September

And the coin of the month for September is ... This months coin is a Seated Dollar. It is graded AU-55 by PCGS. The obverse has a moderately deep russet gold tone that doesn't show up much on the photo. The rim has a band of blue. The reverse is golden gray with cartwheel luster.

Dear Heritage, Give the little guy a break

Will they or won't they Due to circumstances beyond my control, it has become necessary to diminish my holdings of the Lincoln cent. This persuit started like many of us, at an early age, with a thumb buster album. That initial set disappeared during a move and my persuit waned. After college, I decided to renew my love of Lincolns and visited a few shops, in the city, I began work. I took on the responsibility of a ready made family and wife and before I knew it the budget seemed to get t

Common, but not so common, INTERESTING overdate

The 1818/9 is the most common overdate in the Bust Half series, but it's still not easy to find The first one I had was fortuitous in that I bought an 1818 in an NGC holder, but upon inspection, when I received it, it was an 1818/9. I sold that coin. Can't remember if it was a large or a small 9, but what I'm discussing here is the small 9. The small 9 reveals more of the 8 which lies under it. Also, there was only ONE set of dies for this particular overdate, as opposed to several for the la

Emotional Roller-coaster

Ramblings I live in a remote location so coin delivery time is exceedingly slow, though I am not complaining as this allows me to track the packages while they are in transit and take off of work as appropriate with minimal company "comp time" required on the weekends. This is all irrelevant to my roller-coaster ride, but I enjoy rambling... The short cycle emotional peaks and valleys are caused by my jubilation at hearing the door bell ring, quickly scribbling my signature (which would fa

A Comemm I'd Like to See

Inspired by Obama's speech tonight, and realizing how historical this campaign is.... Yeah, I'd reallllly like to see a comemm of Obama's nomination one day. It is imperitive in my opinion that this does happen. And yes, I know the procedures that mustbe followed for a comemm or any other coin to be minted, and it is a long road...IF this ever happens. But I really do believe it SHOULD happen, and I will be among the very 1st to own such a coin. I hope everyone has been well. I'll see

Today: Quality Control; Tomorrow: Victory!

Grades soon, yes? My first submission (2 invoices, 61 coins) just went to quality control today. Maybe I could have finalized grades available tomorrow? Maybe? Little hope? Nah... I just hope it doesn't spend 5 weeks in QC like a coin that a dealer submitted for me. It kinda surprised me when BOTH hit QC today. They were on different tiers and one invoice had gone to "scheduled for grading" 2 or 3 days ahead of the other. This week also saw some really impressive delivery times for USPS. May

NGC made my day!!

A geat coin came back PF-70UC Recently I submitted 6 ungraded modern commemoratives that I purchased hoping that I can get lucky and get one or 2 that would come back a 70. I was very happy with the results. 5 came back PF-69UC and 1 came back PF-70UC. It was a 1992 Olympics 50c. I am very happy with this coin. There are only 1745 of them graded by NGC and only 278 received PF-70UC! The coin cost me only $11.50, including shipping, from an auction I won on Ebay and Numismedia prices it $212
