"The Dark Knight" and the 1922 Peace Dollar

The Peace Dollar is a STAR!! I was extremely impressed by "The Dark Knight" and really cannot get mind mind off of it even 2 weeks later now after I saw it. I was thrilled to see the use of a 1922 Peace Dollar featured in the movie as well. I'd like to have the one used in the movie as part of my collection...real or not. You just gotta love coins!!

More Questions - No Answers Revisted!!

Getting discourgage with coin collecting!! I ask NGC if they would change a NGC First Strike to a NGC Early Releases. This is what they said: "Thank you for your inquiry. NGC will not change the label from First Strikes to Early Release. The only way for a coins to receive the Early Releases designation is if that coin is in our facility within the first 30 days of release." I wrote back: I heard that an individual (dealer) sent in a green monster box of 2006 silver eagles (bullion)

Buffalo Fever

As hard as I tried to limit my gold buffalo sets, I failed! Well, I was only going to do a set of Uncirculated 1/2 oz coins (currently on back-order from the US Mint). Then I hooked up with the Live dot com Cashback offer and ended up buying a MS70 2008 PCGS (pictued below) 1 oz for less than $900 after the rebate. Now, I just bought a NGC 1/10 PF69UC Buffalo from Gainesville Coin for what the US Mints sells the coin for raw (though I guess there is a chance for a 70 or a 68 from the Mint

August Huh!

Unhappy am I, we haven't had our one day of summer yet, and here is Jackson rubbing it in..... I agree with all..this year is really flying by. My wife and I are still trying to get into our new home and it's still not finished. My focus has changed somewhat on my collections due to my new "I'm retired now" budget, so I have been consentrating on my MPC collections lately. And Jackson, you had to rub it in that you got to go to the Baltimore show, and here I am stuck up in Maine, 10 hours a

More than two premier grading services and graders. I am sure many of you subscribe or read coin world on more of a casual basis. I noticed over the years something that seems very strange to me and it concerns grading services. There is one particular salesman, yeah that has one coin show that went defunct and now is on another (shop something or another). I am sure many know who I mean. He is always saying there is only two grading services, that of PCGS and NGC. He calls all others Enc

Re: My massive july in review

you're right..... I do not want to know....unless you spent a million bucks this last month, it is not worth our time knowing...unless you spend a million a month...I say get a life...get some real coins!! My bad... I just couldn't resist giving one a dose of their own medicine. This coin is worth a million dollars...or least I think it should be, afterall, it is the only one I have, and I say it is worth that. YOU might have a different opinion AND you MIGHT be right. :-) Mike p.s.

my massive july in review

More mega coins added this month Dear journal It is getting close to crunch time for the registery awards and I am still in second place in my mint state roosevelts.I won the award last year, but competition has been fierce, but great.I am loving the challenge this year, better than last.2 rivals have me on the edge of my seat.Lablover and Miami Heat.Lablover has a few great heavy hitters with some room to move up.I also have some mega coins that are not to shabby either.Pound for Pound it has

Coin of the Month for August

And the coin of the month for August is ... This month's coin is an 1837 Reeded Edge Half. It is graded AU-55 by PCGS. It is well struck with just a little softness on the eagles claws. It has nice gray toning with rose on the high points and light blue and gold on the periphery and some blue and rose in the fields. It also has some remaining luster. Unfortunately, the colors don't show up in the picture very well as they make this a very appealing coin, in my opinion.

REE What will the mint do?

My take on it If the mint would ever release a coin bearing the confederate flag,it would be a sell out in minutes. That coin wouespecoally if theydid a gold or silver one.Jefferson Davis should be on the presidential coins. His picture is on a lot of lists containing all the presidents.I already started my collection honoring the Southern States. My lincoln penny collection is labeled "Thank You John Wilkes Booth".If anyone has a problem with that I really dont care.

What I wish the Mint would do!

Enough quarters to choke a horse. I wish someone would give serious thought to putting the National Parks on the obverse/reverse of the half with Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt on the other side. The larger size would allow for a bigger picture or even multiple pictures of the NPs and would finally get 'Teddy' on a coin where he belongs. His is the only 'mug' on Mt. Rushmore not to grace a circulating coin. Teddy was responsible for establishing our first NP at Yellowstone and was probably the

Re: What will the mint do ?

Probably Nothing. I don't think it has anyting to do with the North or South. The Southern States of America or the Confederacy is a defunct government. Why would the mint celeberate a president of a defunct government? On the other hand, Jefferson Davis' birthday is a State Holiday in both Florida and Alabama (celebrated in June). The "original" first White House of the South is still standing in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. Before its location was changed to Richmond Virgina.

Mercury Rising I Think I got the Fever Again

The search is under way, The attack is being planned After the let down of finding out I have a 21 day wait for the Mercury dimes I sent in for grading, I had to do something so I started my research and then started to plan my attack. It felt good and the excitement is mounting. I don't want to tip anyone else off so mums the word, but should have at least one MD to enter in to my set by this time next week maybe more. I stated in my last journal that I was going to cancel my proof set subs

What will the mint do?

When they get to Abe Lincoln AND Jefferson Davis? I was talking with some guys from the good state of SC, and of course, it usually ends up with a conversation about the civil war. WEll, they know about the new gold dollars with all the presidents on them, and kiddingly, one asked, "will they put Jeff Davis on them new dollar coins"? I kinda thought he may of had a point. I mean, Jeff Davis WAS the president of the confederate states of America, right? Or will they not because the confe

Down, but not out!!!

New additions Been laying low for a while. Still trying to keep up on reading the journal entries of all you folks in the community. Started my second round of chemo treatment 5 weeks ago. Not up to doing much, but still found the energy(and resources) to add to my proof sets. Added the silver roosevelt and kennedy halfs to my collection. I really want to get back on my ASE's, but cash for the 70's ms/pf is not available at this time. So conceeded with myself that the proof sets are my best

Just a Few Things...

Been away for a little bit, here's what's new. Greetings again!! Been away doing other things such as trying to find my way in my new job (enjoying it thoroughly!!) and taking some time to re-focus my direction while having a couple days off. Also went to see "The Dark Knight" in IMAX and was totally mesmerized and thoroughly blown away by it....still can't get it out of my head. I am busily working on my credit card bill so that I can more thoroughly "get in the game" here, though

Me and my little hammer!

Still working on my Buffalo album!?! I had planned to just save up to purchase the higher priced 1918/7-D and the 1937-D 3 Leg Buffalos. I pulled a couple of slabs (1915-S & 1937-D)out of the bank with plans to sell both of them on eBay. After looking at my '15-S in the slab and comparing it to the one I had in my album. I decided that the one in the album wasn't as nice so I got out my little hammer and gave that slab a couple of whacks and my 1915-S was free! [image]http://img.village

Submission # 3 Received

Early Bird has a turn around time of 21 days!!!!!! Well I guess I am paying for the quick turn around on the two most recent Modern Tier submissions. When I get my coins back I should have moved up in ranking to three digit numbers. I ordered a $5 Buffalo from the U.S. Mint, it is back ordered, delivery in about 2 weeks. This will bring my count of gold coins up to seven, wish I could afford more!! After this year I will cancel my mint subscriptions to the proof sets I wanted the state quarter

Number 2 for a day

Does that make me the Queen? well, I just entered the number of my 08-S Sac to my set, and it lists me as number 2. Hurrah, but I'm wondering, if the number 1 is the king, does that make me the queen? Don't say it, I'll hit you with my purse. On a more serious note, that is the end of the Sacagawea set. As of next year, we will start the revolving reverses. And what will NGC do as far as set listings? A new set or just consider them as a new variety? On a different note, I got a big
