2008 Bald Eagle Proof Clad Half-Dollar
I recently purchased this coin from the US Mint and it has a line going through the bottom part of the flag that looks like the die had a crack on it. Does anyone know if their are any more errors like this out their. Does this coin have any value?
Doin' the overtime thing
This was supposed to be my weekend off...Saturday, Sunday, and Monday...but we are so short handed in our fire department that I got the opportunity to work OT on Saturday and Sunday. The money is so damn good that I can't turn it down.
And this last week we have gone through some big bucks. My daughter had her 16th Birthday Party and Confirmation Party all in one. It was a great time with all the family and friends showing up but it did cost more then we expected bu
How did that happen so fast?
OK, so I I submit a PCGS graded coin, an AG-3 1916-D Mercury Dime. I know it's only an AG-3 but it is THE KEY DATE. The point total assigned was "3". I shot off an email to Amy and let her know that I thought it rather odd that a 1916-D of any sort would garner a rating of 3. I asked if NGC would consider doing a score correction.
Now, I know most of you are reading this saying exactly what I would say....waaaa, it's not about the points. I know, but, it's
Did the french title grab you? I probably mis-spelled it. Part 3 of my Liberty postings.
Liberty is something most of us seem to take for granted, yet there are well over a billion (1,000,000,000) people on this ball of dust who do not have that luxury. The luxury of speaking one's mind without being incarcerated (ooo a 12 letter word...just showing off my vocabulary now), the luxury of attending a house of worship, even the luxury of having more than one child (though you gotta pay for 'em a
You think youn hve delay problems?
I recently submitted a few modern coind to ngC foe grading and was very impressed by NGC.Received 4 -10-08 and finalixzed ad shipped on 43-16 08 ---grteat turnaround time.

ERROR OR MARKETING PLOY?
I just was wondering if there were any thoughts on possibly the mint producing this "error" on purpose? You have to wonder why subtle changes were made to the reverse of this coin anyway- too subtle for even casual notice. The mint has become an expert marketer, knowing exactly what we "get into" and what will get us all excited. I suppose it is a mute point anyway- it is what it is and we can all enjoy the result. I was fortunate in that all of my mint orders came
but nooooooo... not a one in hand!
So I bought one, a NGC MS69 Early Release.
But I don't have a set and they are not a part of a set at this time. Is it worth the money I paid for it? Only time will tell.
The photo is of a PCGS MS70 2008 W.
And MOST of it is good!!
Greetings!!
I have "been away" for a couple weeks as I have been re-connecting with a very good friend of mine whom I had not heard from in 20 years, so most of my time writing has been to him catching up on 20 years and congratulating him on his marriage and on his upcoming child. He is one of the key reasons why I started collecting baseball cards, and really helped me get started with my collecting passion, so it has been a very good thing to "get back to my roo
PCGS versus NGC
Wow!
First of all, I want to preface the following with this statement, I love NGC and the work they do. I also reognize that they grade a ton more coins than PCGS. About half of my coins are graded by NGC and the other half by PCGS. This is not meant to bash NGC in any way.
With that said:
As some of you may have read awhile back I sent in 400 Nickels in a bulk submission to NGC. All were in the original rolls issued by the Mint from the Mint. It took about 90 day
I know I've been writing a lot lately. I'm sorry...
It helps keep my mind focused on things less depressing, like my Mom's health, and of course, work... :-)
Anyway, I ordered a second 2008 ASE Proof from the Mint last night. The one I bought on the day of release graded disappointingly as a PF68UC. That leaves me with two choices for it, either sell it for melt or close to it (if I'm lucky) or else stack it in with some Clay Pigeons in the launcher and yell "PULL".
Actually, what I think

2008 W.rev of 2007 Silver Eagle, I was just wondering, when was the last time something like this was done to the reverse of a coin? or to change a Letter from upper to lower case? After Looking at just some of my coins and looking through the red book, I cant find any coin with the Lower case `u` in United? Thats Big,if you find 2008W with the upper case letter its the error coin? and the lower case is the change to the Silver Eagles:}? O.K. Im confused. You gotta Love this hobb
Just curious
I was wondering if anyone knows if they will make another coins other then the 2 bald eagle coins this year for the commerative series? I know they only make 2 a year, but not for sure . Any info out there is appreaciated ....
What went on with my collection in April
Lots of good stuff going on with my collection this past month. I sent 16 coins off to NGC for grading at the beginning of the month. These were all modern commemoratives that I had left and they spanned the 80s, 90s and 00s. One came back MS-70, 2 got PF-70UC and the rest were PF-69UC. No Star designation yet...hoping to get one some day.
I also purchased 8 coins off of Ebay and other dealers throughout the month.
1991 SAE PF-69UC
1995 SAE MS-69
Ngc received my submission!! I acquired my Peace dollar!!!!
I checked my delivery confirmation number today (actually yesterday) and found that my submission had arrived. Then checked the web site and saw it in receiving. Now the hard part starts, the waiting!!
Now for the very exciting news A 1936S Peace Dollar in AU 55 is now mine. I won it in a BIN or best offer on Ebay. It was a very strange chain of events, I made an offer a little low to see what kind of reaction I would get, which is
As a new collector, should I submit coins for grading?
I have always enjoyed coins. I tend to be drawn towards modern proof coins. I like the way they look, the weight of an American Eagle especially feels good in my hand. In fact I have every American Eagle Proof since their inception. My thought and desire right now is whether or not I should submit them for grading. What things should I look for when submitting a coin. Obviously as a collector, I should look for coins to submit that w
Looks like I can do two Modern submissions, with two weeks separating them, faster than I can one Economy.
My second Modern submission made since making my Economy submission is now in Quality Control. My Early Bird Cross-Over would have won, but I sent it over to NCS to clean the artificial toning off of it rather than see it come back to me in it's PCI Holder. Not going to pout or whine about my Economy submission, though. Just feeling all anxious and jittery waiting to see the results of my
Spendy vs. Reality
Well I've been of the mind set that I want a complete set of early commemoratives at grade MS-65 or better. This has been going well for me as I've been busy buying the cheaper ones while looking for high quality strikes for the grade/price. I recently scouted a couple of the more costly coins and decided those would have to be a once a year purchase. Some of the coins run into the thousands of dollars at this high of grade therefore I've decided to buy those spendy ones in
2008 New Hub Variety
Hi,
Just wanted to say that my "New Hub Variety" Silver Eagle is on the way. To me this has to be the best coin I will own to this point. The only coin to surpass this is of course, the 1995W Silver Eagle. This coin will be the crowning highlight of my silver eagle collection.
the end of an era? Sacagawea's are done in this incarnation and Lincolns are going where?
Just ordered my 2008 Sac's and was wondering again, is this the last year for that set? As of next year, the reverse of the Sac will be the rotating Native American themes. That constitutes a new type or at the very least, at least some division in the Sac collections. I think? Also, next year is the commen Lincoln's. Are these going to be the end of a period? With all the talk of changing the cent,
Small Collector new to the Hobby being convinced by some Big Coin Dealer that buying "CAC" stickered coins is the best way to go....."they don't cost that much more, Honest"
I agree that once a coin is graded by either NGC or PCGS you can decide for yourself with your own eyes whether or not the coin is right for you to purchase....Paying extra money for CAC stickered coins is somewhat of a farce. If the coin is really nice in the graded holder it is in I don't need some "Fat Cat Dealer" telli
I'm truly grateful to be a member here, along with such a great bunch of people...
I was overwhelmed with responses. So many that I can't thank all of you personally, so please allow me to express my gratitude en masse. As I've said many times before, the membership in this Society are truly a wonderful bunch of people. Again... Thank you so much. I will post a photo of the 1909 VDB Lincoln once it gets graded.
Can't win them all.
Or so the saying goes. A prime example of this fell into place for me twice last week.
First, there was a 1971P Lincoln MS67 that had been on ebay for a while listed at $179. The seller lowered it last week to $129 so I had watched it all week and was set to bid on the coin as the seconds ticked down. Low and behold as I went to bid and the "winning" excitement set in, I hit the wrong !@%? button. Lost that one!
Second, an opportunity also presented itself on ebay f
