Another blow to the Dead Horse

Being in the silent majority not owning and probably never going to own a 2008W rev of 2007 my opinion is ? My only chance at one of these coins was to get them from the mint and that didn't happen. I have a subscription for 5 of the unc W ASE's. I was lucky with the 2006W's and had two of mine grade MS70 I was also lucky with the regular 2008W and got two of the in MS70. I was very lucky with the 2007W and got four MS70's, but alas no 08/07. Everyone that got one I'm happy for you. My not hav

There is no doubt the 2008/07 is rare...

The question is, how high a price is justifiable? And that is where we differ in opinions. The fact that Dave Fisher was offered $225 by coin dealers shows us that its rarity is established. The mint's estimate of 47,000 minted establishes its rarity as well. Only time will tell how much a rational market will value it. Thank you, Terry, for your calm and collected summation. I do believe that everyone should own one, I am not quite sure if one should stock up at current prices, expecting

Reverse of 2007, Yet Again!!!

I think we have about beat this horse to death. As someone who has been kinda vocal about the Rev of 07 and its place in the registry I really think we have beat this horse enough for now. Honestly who really knows what the hell is going to happen to the price, you all have your theories and speculation, but none of you really know. I'm excited about this coin not because of potential value, but because it is going to be an important coin in the series. If I wanted I could sell mine now

Rev 07

I was wrong! see the prices go up! Just got home and thought I would see how the 07 Rev. market was doing. Haven't looked in 3 days, WOW, a 70 ER is now hovering around $1000!!! When will the madness end? Is this going to be a 95W someday?(in pricing) I have decided to start my 70 collection again. I have 11 now, some MS & PF all I need to do now is find a job that pays $100,000 p/y and in 5-6 years I will have my 70's complete. That's all for now, just wated to share my thoughts on th

Going up in the Ike's

Soon to be number 7 in Proof Ikes My Proof Ikes have been tied for 8th place for some time. I have all 11 coins, all in Proof 69 Ultra Cameo. To go up from here starts to get a bit spendy, as I will need to replace coins in this set with PF69UC STAR or the ultra spendy Proof 70UC. Last night I was very fortunate to accquire, through Ebay, a 1974-S Silver Ike, Proof 69UC STAR...yeah!! What's better, is that I got it for considerably less than I was prepared to spend. The last one I saw o

Chief Joseph Brant

Another suberb presentation by NGC ..Born in Ohio during a tumultuous era that defined North America. Thayendanegea's life was greatly influenced by an alliance with the British. Thayendanegea was given the Christian name of Joseph Brant and received an English education. ..Brant fought his first battle with the British when he was just a teenager. But this young warrior was also a visionary. Brant clearly understood that Native people faced inevitable change and united various nations to

Got my 2007 Early Release MS 69 Silver Eagle Bullion!!

Nice looking coin!! WOW!! Talk about fast shipping!! I won an auction for the 2007 ER MS 69 about 3 days ago, and got the coin from FLORIDA no less ALREADY!! It felt nice to add the coin to my registry and get back in the game again. Yeah, my credit cards HATE me, but I got this coin for $19.75 and I could not pass on that great of a deal. I think I set my high bid for it at $25 so, I am happy as can be, especially for a coin with Early Release designation. I added the mintage number

PCGS Crossover to NGC

More times than not, modern coins do not crossover. With all the hype how PCGS coins are valued higher, it doesn't always mean their grades equal NGC. I have come to a conclusion that PCGS over grades most modern coins meant for circulation. Perhaps they don't value modern coins importance so they don't examine as carefully as they do with the Commemorative coins and the older classics. I usually buy a few PCGS modern coins hoping they crossover to NGC to keep my registry as close to NGC co

New Signiature Sets ! National Bicentennials !

National Bicentenial / Washington Stamp Act Medals Certified by NGC, I randomly bought a set of coins on e-bay, to my surprise it came with alot of unusual items, some of which appeared to be plated dollars, many local dealers speculated that they were medals, gold plated, bronze etc. I sent a portion of these into NGC to see what would happen. I was greatly rewarded by having them all come back at MS67 levels, as National Medals from the US Mint. I am sending the balance in to see if they too

Going Postal!!!

I'm fuming at the USPS right now... I sent a 1953 Franklin (yes, that one...) to NGC via Express Mail on the morning of 5/13. It cost me almost $20 to do it, but I needed to get a grade as fast as possible so that I might be able to take advantage of the Seller's return window in case I was mistaken about what this coin will grade at. Anyway, here we are fast approaching close of business on 5/16, and NGC still hasn't gotten the coin. In fact, it didn't even make it to Florida until today. I

and they are not all Lincolns! I have been busy the last couple of weeks bolstering both my annual Mint and Proof Sets. I have also added a few miscellaneous coins and several new finds for my Roosevelt sets. My 1965-date Roosevelt set now resides comfortably at number 5 in that registry. I added the Jefferson and Silver Roosevelts to both my 1996 and 1997 Proof sets (1996 set at number 5 and 1997 at number 12). I also added the Handshake Jefferson and the Lincoln cent in my 2004 Proof se

The end is rapidly approaching

Two maybe three more months and I'm done. Well, I did one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my coin collecting life. I sold my partial interest (had been making payments) on a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. It's funny how life can change at the drop of a hat. In my former job, all I had to do was work there one more month and she would have come home with me. Only a PCGS G-4 but it was a gorgeous G-4 to me. I couldn't have cared less if the thing was a MS-67 or a F-2, it w

2008 w Silver Eagle/ reverse of 07

Why do we let them do this to us! I am personally in the camp who believes that this coin will be a real winner- appreciation wise. My problem is comparing something with this coins mintage to the 2006 W "Blue Lable" which is absolutely no different than a 2006 w anniversary silver eagle, or any of the other 2006 W silver eagles (around 500,000 total mintage)- except for the piece of colored paper inserted into the holder! We get talked into these "first strikes" which are not first strikes,

RE: 2008 revese07 will be less than 47,000 minted

Has everyone forgotten all the MS70 & PF70 high value Silver Eagles!!! I do agree that this is a special coin, but some have compared this to the 1995W in value. Granted 28,000 is a very low mintage, but this is only one part of the equation. As of this writing, NGC has graded nealy 9,000 of this variety, with approximately 4,000 in MS70. Compare this to the 1995W, with 1,355 grade with only 116 graded a PF70, its not even close. Time will tell of its value, but it would be my opinion,

Some Additions to the Registry

Doing some additions in name only for now, anticipating sending in some pennies, Morgans etc. for grading soon. Greetings!! This time off work between jobs has me scrambling for things to do so that I do not go stir crazy before I start my job with the County on Monday. So, I have been spending a LOT of time on-line and here at the Collectors Society re-doing a few things in my registry. I added the Morgan slot, and a penny slot in anticipation of adding some coins in there that I found

2008 reverse 07 will be less than 47,000 minted

Save them if you can Well everyone knows about the firse report of 47,000.The mint adds up the dies and how many it produces per hour. This gives you the figure of 47,000.The key is what they didnt tell you was when the discovery came out.The mint halted production and opened all the boxes that were ready to ship.A few people realize that their boxes from the mint was opened and resealed. The errors will be counted and melted..Just a hint, hoard them if you can.The figure at my guess 28,000.the f

2008-W ASE, Reverse of '07

It actually fits into the 2008-W Mint State Silver Eagle slot! I wrote to NGC asking about adding a slot for this error coin, and received a reply indicating that while they had not done so, and alluding to their consideration, that for the time being, the 2008-W coin, with the Reverse of the 2007 Mint State Silver American Eagle actually can be added to the regular 2008-W slot. I tried, and successfully added the coin to my slot. When you go into the details about the coin, it does show th

Body-Bagged dime from inside a 1954 Proof Set

I have received numerous comments on this situation asking for more info, so here it is... I picked up my 1954 Proof Set at the Post Office this morning. For those who may be new to this, I submitted this set back in March, still enclosed in the Mint Cellophane, which was still intact after 54 years (Scary thought about landfills full of that kind of stuff) Anyway, when I got my grades earler this week, I discovered that the dime had been body-bagged, with the heading OBV DAMAGE. Registry question ANSWER

Thanks to all who answered me Yes, I did get a lot of responses from my fellow collectors, but also from AMY for NGC who also wrote me with: "Yes, you may use the same coin (same cert #) in different sets. As in your example, you may register your 1971 1C proof in your 1971 Proof set and in a Lincoln Cent Proof set. What you may not do is register the same coin (same cert #) to sets of the same type. In your case, you have registered two (2) 1971 Proof sets. You may not register the same c
