NGC Journals

US Mint doing great

PF70 becoming common instead of the exception. Just got the results of 15 coins sent into NGC, my result could not have been better 9 PF70, (4 - 2008 Proof Silver Eagles, 4 - 2008W Silver Eagles and 1 - 2008 50Cent Comm Eagle) It is greate to see the quality that the mint has been able to put out for collectors. Looking at the numbers pf70's are becomming more and more common. I hope we do not become less impressed with the lower graded coins. These are also great works of art. My

Another Reason to Love Our Hobby

And it's NOT about ...money? Greetings!! Another reason to love our hobby....the friendships we have all forged here. Now, I don't email some of you as oft as I should, but I am happy to know that all of you who frequent the journals can understand the way I feel, and can appreciate the longing and yearning for the coins sent, and the coins on the way. I appreciate deeply reading the journals here, and I wish you all luck with the submissions and auctions. I WISH I was "in the

Scheduled for grading.. isn't it beautiful.. TAKE TWO

More scheduled up very quick this time.. Well they only just arrived but have been entered into the database. Five 2008 PF Silver Eagles. There better be some 70 in there! they all looked good. Last year all 5 graded 70 so hoping for the same. Next submission includes this interesting one, the first ORBITAL.. 50th Anniversary Of Sputnik 1957-2007 Due to size constraints this coin does not orbit - the animated GIF was too large

My Early Bird Cross-Over has started to move

Went to Schedule for Grading Sorry, Journal readers, for my rant yesterday. I just get frustrated sometimes with how backlogs are managed at NGC. It seems to me that the turnaround on the date that NGC receives your submission should be the turnaround that they honor, but that does not appear to be the case. For example, if NGC receives your submission on 3/24 (actually a couple of days before that) like my current Economy submission, then the turnaround should be the 21 days that was posted.

Sent my coins into get graded.......

When will I ever get them back!! I sent my package via priority mail to NGC and I put on delivery confirmation. USPS says the package was delivered April 7th. NGC received them on April 16th. I don't know why it took so long to get the coin to the received status. I had to submission in one box. One of them was a world modern submission (5 coins) and the other was a modern submission (63 coins). Well it is know the 24th of April and my coins havent even made it out of "Received Status". NGC

The race was supposed to be on, anyway...

Not much of a race if nothing is moving I don't know what NGC is backlogged on, but this is the worst that I've ever seen it. Economy turnaround is up to over 40 days now, and even Early Bird and one of the Gold tiers have been pushed out. Add the fact that it takes days after physically receiving your package to getting it entered into a Received status so the clock can start, and you've got turnarounds that I'm finding to be totally unacceptable. One of my submissions was entered as Received

PERFECTION!

This is the latest addition to my collection. ..A very Beautiful coin with great design. My problem is I NEVER will have a complete collection, because of the 1995W! I didn't start collecting this series until 2004. ..When I started this series I saw some raw coins, but said who would pay that much for one coin? Well as time has passed and the 1995-W is now out of sight, with my excellent hindsight I should have purchased it! ..I also passed on the 10th Anniversay Platinum set. Again my

The Buck Stops At NGC!

An estate sale and ten 10 beautiful 1999 Silver Eagles with toning. What a ride! I guess you never know what to expect and so far, all my expectations have been turned upside-down. I recently submitted two orders for NGC grading. Today I saw the results on-line. My first order was five 2008 W early release Silver Eagles. Under a glass, I thought maybe one of the five might even have the slightest of chances to make MS70. Of that lot, three actually came back MS70. The other two MS69.

When life is BLAH..I am glad to have COINS to make me SMILE! :)

A hobby? NO!! An OBSESSION!! OK, I have been having a series of bad days lately, and right after I walk through the door and greet my wife and maybe eat a burrito, I am working on something to do with my coin collection...it keeps the sheer MADNESS at bay, let me tell ya!! I work for a place that COULD be a great company, but the "drink the Kool-Aid" expectations are HUGE..EVEN by UTAH standards... and it drives me CRAAAAAZY! BUT thank GOD for a loving wife and a great coin collecti

Thoughts on the Reverse of '07

I have been doing some thinking about the reverse of '07 eagles. When I first saw the NGC report about the reverse of 2007, I immediately ran to eBay to see if any were available (I only looked for MS70). No auctions were up at that time. Since then I checked every day to see what became available. There were a few single auctions, as well as a few dutch auctions of 20 (both Early Release and brown label). The Buy It Now (or best offer) dutch auction was set at $249 - and the lowest

2008 W MS find

Did anyone know about the "2007 reverse" being minted on 2008W MS coins? I just logged into my account to see how my most recent submission turned out. I noticed that NGC had "Rev of 07" listed under the mint mark. I called NGC to get a better description of what that meant. To my surprise I learned that the mint has used some of the 2007W reverse dies in making the 2008W MS coins. NGC states they do not know how many have been made and the US Mint website doesn't state anything about 2 differ

The race is on!

Be interesting to see what the outcome is I have three submissions in at three different tiers. 1) Economy Submission - Received 3/24, still in Scheduled for Grading status 2) Early Bird Submission - Received 4/15, still in Received status 3) Modern Submission - I know it arrived Sat. at NGC. Still waiting for them to receive it properly. I wonder which one will complete first. I'm rooting for the Economy, but I've already had a Modern submission go in and come back to me in the time t

Liberty...Part Two

Many have died for this cause, and not just Americans... Back in February I posted an entry on Liberty. I mentioned that we (the United States) do not have a monopoly on the freedoms of Liberty, and I posted a picture of a very nice 1921 Mexican 2 peso coin. Many have fought and many have died for the cause of Liberty in and for their country. I truly believe that Lady Liberty honors all those who gave and especially those who gave all. Every time a coin with Liberty is spent, or held and

Coins dealers are snobs

I loved the coin show but......... I went to the Central States Numismatic Society 69th coin show in Rosemont yesterday. I loved the coin show but....some dealers are such snobs. I think if didn't wear old clothes and shaved it would have been different. 2 of us walk up to a booth. I am dressed like a bum and the other guy has on a sports coat and pulling a little suitcase behind him. Guess who is asked what they can do for him. The well dressed man. RE: MARINE DOLLAR MORE THAN JUST A MARINE

BEAUTIFUL COIN, UGLY COLLECTOR DEAR PAUL, I TOO AM A FAN OF THE US MARINES. I FULLY APPRECIATE THE PRICE PAID BY THE "GREATEST GENERATION". CERTAINLY ANY AMERICAN GENERATION WOULD RISE UP TO DEFEND THE MAGNIFICENT EXPERIMENT STARTED BY BY ITS FIRST: WASHINGTON, HAMILTON, JEFFERSON, FRANKLIN AND MANY, MANY OTHERS........ SO I WOULD THINK THEY WOULD DEFEND YOUR RIGHT TO BELIEVE AS YOU DO, AND TO VOICE THAT BELIEF. I JUST WONDER, IS THIS THE APPROPRIATE FORUM TO SHARE NON-N

Marine Dollar,More than just a Marine

World War 2 I recieved my marine dollar today.Everyone should know a little bit of history of this famous picture.Truth be told,I added this coin to my registry and I had to leave a note about this coin.So I said "Putting up the flag and killing the japs".That is what this picture of this coin is.We didn't want to get into this war and they sucker punched us.They got their asses kicked.I know, the mint should produce a coin that has the mushroom cloud from "Little Boy" is the nick name given t

Rotated Dies Signature Set

Rotated Dies on Sac $'s, Indian Head Cents, Statehood Quarters, and a pair of Quarter Eagles. I decided to consolidate my rotated die collection into a signature set under mint errors. Too bad many are in ANACS holders. One of my favorites is this 1865 3C Copper Nickel (see image this post). Enjoy.
