From Addict to Completely "Nuts"

I think I am very close to "Going off the deep end" Greetings from the gates of the local "Funny Farm" here in N.E. Florida. Our local coin show just ended yesterday and I felt fairly good with the restraint I demonstrated with the four hours Saturday and the two hours Sunday spent drooling over cases and cases of beautiful coins begging for homes. I ended up doing more trading this year, which is a first for me. I had some AU British sovereigns of which I traded a few of and picked up a mint

Cheerio's cents, and an answer for Clay

Brooklyn Bridge??? Clay, don't be concerned...I have three slabs identical to yours with the exception mine don't have the Memmott collection logo. And I still like them. oh by the way, when I originally posted on here about them, I quoted a mintage of 1 million..that was incorect and should have been 10 million. this figure is off the back of the package it came in. and as for someone trying to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge....don't worry...I already bought it....... dean

CHEERIOS PENNY

From the Cheerios Promotion ..In the year 2000, if my wife found a coin in her Cheerios, I know for a fact we would have put it in a Piggy bank or spent it! Fast forward to 2006 or 2007 having read about the Cheerios Promotion we will treat any coin we find now more carefully. ..I was looking at my favorite coin shop (EBay) when I came across this Cheerios Penny. Thinking about it, I said what the heck, it's only money and put in a bid. I won the bid. ..When I received the coin I spent t

The local coin show has come and gone

Well for being a first timer it was a bit dissapointing. I didn't realize it was just going to be a traveling coin store. I thought when they said "show" that included coins to look at that aren't for sale but someone may be showing off a set of say early commemoratives or something. Know what I mean? I did manage to find some coins I liked and I bought two while I was there. I found the best looking Sesquicentennial of Independence2222222387w1p[7666666666666666666666666666666---------000 S

May in Review!

What went on with my collection and what's next. May was a great month for my collection. I got 9 SAE back from NGC. 2001, 2003, and 2006 came back PF69UC and 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008 came back PF70UC. And my first MS (2008) SAE I bought from the Mint came back MS-69. Next year I will be buying 3 or 4 of each to see if I can get 70s when I submit to NGC. I also puchased 7 coins from various venues last month. 1990 Eisenhower Commemorative PF69UC 1992 Whitehouse Commemorative PF6

Time to eat a little crow...

Going to start off the month of June on a contrite note. After making that post about a counterfeit holder, I received TONS of responses from everyone. Thank you very much everybody. In quite a few of these responses, I discovered that I didn't know quite as much about recognizing a counterfeit as I thought I did. Again, thank you for enlightening me, and with this new insight that I've gained, I have to admit that I was wrong. While I did discuss this with the Seller, it was done in a very po

New Used Camera

Looks like I am about to get a different digital camera. I have made an offer on a used Kodak EasyShare Z710 IS 7.1 MP. I put in a Best offer that will put me at $100 delivered. Maybe my pictures will be better than ever. It also has a 10:1 optical zoom lens! Does anyone have experience with this line of cameras? If I win this item, I will have a week to decide to keep it or not.

Rarity !!!!

loosely used term As I become more of an experienced numismatist I am constantly learning and reading on the hobby. One topic or word that continues to get under my skin is the use of the word "RARE". This word has come particularly into light recently with the SAE variety of the 2008 with the 2007 reverse. The coin has a reported mintage of 47,000 pieces...to put this into perspective let's look at a few US coin series. A mintage of 47,000 would place a coin 15th out of 27th most common

I just received a counterfeit NGC Holder in the mail today

What a surprise! And for a $20 coin, too? The holder is definitely counterfeit. Shows two of the telltales that NGC has warned us about. First, the hologram on the back has been 90% ripped off. Interesting, because the hologram is supposed to be INSIDE the holder. Second, the hyphen in the Cert# is really a hyphen, and not that special angled symbol that NGC uses. I bought the coin off of eBay for $20. The picture of the reverse did not show the complete coin, and frankly for the price, I wa

2008 w Silver Eagle

Another Variety? In checking the mint boxes in which the 2008 W Burnished silver eagles came in it looks as if not only were there two varieties of reverses but also two varieties of mint boxes. The top portion has different sizes of the US Seal as well as lettering. There is not a distintion on whether you get '07 reverse or '08 reverse.

A comic AND Coin Post....

A "twofer" sort of.... Greetings! Well, after years of being without it, I finally received my "Batman: Year One Part One" in a 9.6 White Pages grade in the mail after winning an auction for 19.99 for the comic. I have proudly put it in my comics registry and could not be happier to have it. I have since bought the series in a non-collectible format so that I may read the stories as often as I like, and see the artwork, which is one of the best pieces of comic art ever written and penciled.

NGC grading

Quality Control I just checked my coins that are in for grading. They are all in the QC dept. Does anyone have any history on how long they sit in the QC dept.? I am a very impatient person by nature, they handled the first stages quite rapidly, but now that we are nearing the end of the process, I am very anxious to find what the final grades are. My 09 S VDB is the one coin that I am most concerned about. If anyone has any guidance regarding past experiences with this I would be most appre

I like Van Buren pt2

Why do I like this coin?? My family thinks I look like him, because I need a haircut. severely. I don't know what the Pres's issue was, but my boss has been bugging me about needing a haircut, though she stopped when she saw the coin.

I am Number ONE!!!

For all of about maybe 15 minutes, anyway. I created a 2007 Silver Proof Set just a minute ago. Mostly for fun, so that I could grab bragging rights for a few minutes, although I do think that it's a wonderful idea, although I would like to make a couple of suggestions: 1) Limit entries to the Silver coins only 2) Do the same with the Statehood Quarters Once again, Bravo to the fine people at NGC!!! Now to decide if I should go out a winner and delete that set I just created or not...

NGC Submission

1st attempt at submission Sent several coins off for the first time. Sent them on the 14th and on the 16th they were in the system. Just checked on them and 4 of my 6 coins were already in the grading stage. Waiting on the 1909 S VDB and a $5 Liberty Gold to catch up. I am hoping that the 09 comes back as at least a 45. The Liberty I am guessing that it will be a 58, but gold is not my focus and am not good at grading them. It was the first thing I bought when I got my first credit card. (over
