More June Reflections!

I spent too much... June was a good month for my collection, but not so good month for the bank account! Luckily, I've been selling off some of my hoard of raw coins, helping fund my new found certified habit. Here's my June acquisitions - 1922 Peace $ MS 64 1941 D Lincoln MS 67 1943 Lincoln MS 67 1995 DDO Lincoln MS 68 1939 Lincoln MS 67 2005 Lincoln SMS MS 69 2006 Lincoln SMS MS 69 1993 Lincoln PF 70 1994 Lincoln PF 70 1995 Lincoln PF 70 It was a great month full of f

Modern Commemorative Halfs

They're done Well I finally have all the half dollars of the modern commemoratives the only thing is only 3 are graded. The rest are in their original packaging including prestige sets. So I'm afraid the set will never look finished via the registry but I'll always know.

My Love for Collecting, and "Absinthe Girl"

I have made a story for "Walking Liberty" the star of my Favorite coin, the Silver Eagle. On any given day and when I make time, I often take my wonderful coin collections out and I like to just STARE at them, and admire the craftsmanship and I often wonder what the characters on the coins might be thinking, or actually doing as the case may be. I can just imagine Lincoln telling the engraver "WAIT!! this is my GOOD side!!" same with the other Presidents, because we all KNOW they were NEVE

My New Star

as a slowly collect as many star graded gold coins i can get my hands on, i found another way...... and that way is the "cross over" thats right im now getting so impatient waiting for star graded gold coins to come up for auction that im searching out pre graded coins to switch over to NGC in hope of receiving a star grade and for my first attempt i feel i hit the nail on the head so to speak! 1 for 1 on cross overs for star grade.... it was previously a 1899 MS61 ANACS graded coin in a n

RE: There's no point in talking points

I agree with you 100% about looking down on modern coins I hope everyone realized that for example, back in 1878, the newly released Morgan silver dollar was a modern issued coin at that time. So my point is, the modern coins that we collect today could be tomorrows classics. Just think, way into the future about year 2200, there will be high nosed collectors putting down 2200 modern coins and praising their classic 200 years old 2000 coins. That's just my thought. Happy Classic &

Buying Points

Is price per point an indication of future value? I recently acquired two coins; an 1893-CC Morgan dollar and a 2006-P Colorado state quarter. Comparing the two is a little like apples and oranges but I find the point values assigned by NGC to be skewed to the advantage of the modern coins. Coin Price Points $/Point 1893-CC $5,100 2,786 $1.83 2006-P $30 620 $.048 As you can see, if your focus is to amas

Buy the Coin, Not the Holder!

I know, it doesn't make sense on this forum, BUT.... I think you'd be better off though. Any coin, or any collectible for that matter, is only "worth" what somebody else is willing to pay for it. I might say my coin is worth 500 bucks, but if the highest bid I can get is only 300, well... I guess it is only worth 300!! I would respectfully suggest that you don't buy coins strictly on a "points assigned" basis. We all know how subjective grading can be and it is simply insane to think that

Heart Surgey-Delayed

Delayed for one week. ..My scheduled heart surgey has been delayed! I will now enter the hospital on 7 July 2008 and the operation will take place on 8 July 2008. The Doctor said I will be in the hospital for 5 to 7 days. ..On a side note the Doctor said his mother is a Memmott and wanted to know if we were related! I told him we were as all Memmotts in Utah are related. ..I do Family History and have published four books on the Memmotts!

USPS Delivered

It arrived at the right place The coin I spoke of last time arrived today, in about 3 different layers of protective packaging. It's a NGC MS63 1932 Gold Eagle. It's a real beauty too. Sorry the image is so small, I had to really size it down to get under the size restrictions.

NGC vrs. PCGS and ICCS. A Canadian's opinion

NGC is the top grading service by far Having a good read here, with all those opinions out there. Now, after all that good reading, my mind starts to whirl. After having so many thoughts on this issue, I thought it best to share. In my personal experiance, I have found through many ebay purchases, NGC submissions, and attempts and purchases of PCGS, NGC, and ICCS graded coins, here are my findings. Over the past year I have submitted aprox. 15-20 pl-66, ICCS graded coins to NGC for gr

Half Way There

Carson City Morgan Dollars in GSA Holders 1878-1885 and 1890-1891. I have six of the eleven coins in this set. It has been alot of work getting the coins that I have. When I started collecting these in early 2007,I bought a lot of the wrong coins. What I mean is I would buy the grade and not the coin. This is a lesson that I learned the hard way, through experience. But it is very good lesson to learn. So I sold and traded the coins that I didn't like. I have spent a lot of time, passing up co

NGC vs PCGS

AND THE WINNER IS????? I used to only collect NGC coins. I think before the new dollars came out I only had 3 PCGS coins in my registry. Now all my prez's are PCGS mainly because they are more affordable in the higher grades. I also think Paul is right on the money in saying if PCGS allowed NGC coins in there registry it would be dominated by NGC coins. I think NGC is more user friendly. PCGS coins are allowed in the NGC registry but not the other way around. Heck NGC coins won't even fit in P

On Deciding What to do with my Prezzie Proof Sets

To Grade...or NOT to grade..... Alas the weekend is upon us, and once again I have gotten my collection out of hiding and have gazed intently upon the shiny silver and gold discs that we all love so much, and am STILL undecided about whether to grade the Prezzie sets, or to let them be in the very great Government Packaging. I love the theme on the Prezzie sets with the glamourous portraits, and a very good and sturdy plastic housing, I almost hate to trade that in for the (in comparison) p

NGC registry regulations not the same

Pound for pound equal, but not the same I had some pcgs and ngc coins.I checked out both and about 12 years ago I decided to stay with ngc.Pcgs commands a preminum, but they do not have as many dealers sending coins to them.I had pcgs coins that would not cross to ngc.Ngc does 10 times the volume than pcgs. That should tell you who is more trusted.Ngc accepts pcgs becaues the consider each other equals.Pcgs on the other hand wont, and my guess is that because of the volume ngc puts out,the pcgs re

Don't understand NGC registry regulations

PCGS coins in registry. Why can an all PCGS collection enter into the NGC registry? Can an all NGC collection enter into the PCGS regsitry? Absolutely not!! Please explain this to me. I personally have about 35% PCGS and 65% NGC coins in my registry. Would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Turn Around Times

Surely you must be kidding! As collectors we want our newly purchased coins in hand right now...we are an impatient lot. After careful consideration and reflection I hope NGC will ignore this latest round of complaints and just continue doing their job of accurately grading my coins. I think all would agree that having a fast turn-around time is not in the best interest of collectors. There are other TPG companies out there if you want your coins back in a day or two. Frankly, I take comfo

Re...EXPRESS SERVICE....THERES NOTHING EXPRESS ABOUT IT...CAN WE GET A DISCOUNT????

My experience I have submitted to NGC 8 times this year. Even though I use the "Modern" tier and not the "Express", my turn around times are hit and miss. It's says 12 days but some are quicker and some are longer. I guess it depends on the work load they have. I was dumb enough once to submit when they had reps away at a convention and that order took about a month to get back once it showed "received". But so far I have no complaints and I have to say their customer service is outstanding o

Major Acquisitions and keeping my fingers crossed....

Hopefully USPS will be on the ball this week... Well, my step-father and I just ordered a major coin today for what I've dubbed the "Wright Family Collection." I'm not going to let any of you know what this coin is (yet) but It's going to be nice I can promise you that. I just worry about 1 potential problem with this purchase. Where all the other coins we've bought have been shipped to my permanent address, this one is going to be shipped to his. He lives on Harvey Blvd. There are 3 street
