Ebay Adams

This is weird.... I looked at the completed auctions and found the coin sold in auction #280236154820 on the 15th of June. What really bothers me about that one is that it is listed by a dealer I've dealt with on more than one occasion and who I trusted completely. Maybe I should look back at some of my purchases from them. Also it appears that Ebay has ended the current auction of that coin. Another thing....the person who won the previous auction isn't the same name that is listing it

Rim looks the same I just compared the two slabs side by side and if you look at the outer rim of both slabs you will see that they are exactly the same now what are the chance of that and it seems like just the inner parts from the rim has been changed and now their is the matter of the numbers being the same?????

God Speed to you Clay

I hope everyone on the registry has Clay in their prayers.... What a joy to have a fellow collector share with us their new purchases in the area of VAM's. As many of you know I have a VAM or two in my collection. I just wanted to share a VAM I got in the mail today and wish Clay a speedy recovery from surgery he is having on his heart. Clay you do have a friend here on the registry and let us all know when you are back as soon as you feel up to it. My prayers are with you my friend and I know

Have you checked out the First Spouse Louisa Adams PF70 on Ebay?

I think this seller might not be on the up & up All you fellow coin collectors, check out Ebay item#230262557391 This seller claims to have the new 2008 First Spouse Louisa Adams Proof NGC graded PF70 UC. That sounded funny to me because, NGC only has only one graded in their census, So I went to the cert. check and I put in the cert #, it came out as a Elizabeth Monroe PF70 UC! I went back to the item picture to take a close look, what I found is, on Louisa Adam's name, the fonts are wro

Yes ! Australia Sovereign type set please !!

Example of a type set http://www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/ViewPersonalCollection.aspx?UserCollectionID=614 My set just needs a type 1 I leave it up to NGC to decide whether to add a slot for the 2005 commemorative - it has a mintage of 7500 in proof, extra points would be warranted for the special label one of first 1000 struck 1855 should be the most valuable coin in the set ? I was wondering about points, perhaps it would be worth around 200,000 points in MS62 (Uncirculate

The Rise and Fall of the Burnished Silver Eagles

The pricing has changed... So, after a hard days work today I do my favorite thing which is to check my registry sets and see how my coins stand, and also to read the interesting things you all have to say. I have been a bit perplexed lately as I watched the pricing for my 2006 W Silver Eagle Burnished move from about $100 to $78. I always felt like maybe that would happen as there was a bit of a "craze" over the new Burnished coins. I paid $89 for mine in raw form, and it graded a MS 6

RE: Here's an idea.....

Had the same thought a couple of days ago! I totally agree with TOOOLD2BITE. Not that I would ever discard my means of personally keeping a record of all of my purchases, but this would alleviate having to have more than CS running. I think this is a much needed column for private viewing by the owner. I also agree with an earlier post on having a cummulative total on your collection, which of course could include your total acquisition cost. My one cent! Happy collecting everyone.

Finally Scored some SAEs!!

A nice 2007 W MS-70 A couple weeks ago I talked about how hard of a time I was having trying to get a 2007 SAE at MS-70. Well, last week I scored a nice one off Ebay for $65. At the same time I also got a 2006 and 2002 at MS-69 for $25 each. The 2007 is one of the so called "Early Releases" from NGC It is the first one that I own. In my opinion they are just a "marketing gimmick/scam" from NGC since the Mint has flat out said they don't do early releases or first strikes! But it was the only

HERE'S AN IDEA.....A PRIVATE COLUMN

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? I PROBABLY SHARE THIS CHARACTERISTIC WITH MANY IN THE COLLECTING COMMUNITY: I MAINTAIN DETAILED RECORDS. INVOICES ARE STORED AFTER THEY ARE SCANNED INTO THE COMPUTER. COMPUTER RECORDS ARE BACKED UP PERIODICALLY ON CD AND KEPT IN MY SAFE DEPOSIT BOX. NOW THE ONE THING THAT GETS MY JUICES GOING, ASIDE FROM OWNING A PIECE OF HISTORY, IS EXPERIENCING THE THRILL OF THE DEAL. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN..... PAYING 60% OF FAIR MARKET VALUE, MAYBE EVEN JUST 50%. KNOWING THAT THIS W

Some Great Deals and Some Unbelievable prices!

A message to the uninformed I have been eyeing e-bay lately and it seems like the deals are unbelievable on modern coins. I have seen many NGC 70 being offered with buy-it nows for very little over the mint's original selling price and yet they go out unsold. The gas pinch and high prices must have left collectors high and dry. This leads me to shop at home coin shows. This morning I saw a 2008 gold buffalo NGC MS69 early releases selling for about $1,500 and according to the pitch they were

The Job I'd LOVE to have....

Are there any openings? So, I remember watching the History Channel's show about the US Mint, and I remember seeing a person...with white gloves on, arranging Silver Eagles on a table (I believe they were Proofs) so they could be inspected and then shipped. WOW!! To be able to hang out with the Eagles all day AND get the great Government bennies, too. Now THAT my friends, would be HEAVEN!!

Well for those who read the last journal on this coin should know and everybody else, that when i was watching this coin being bidded on, it when to $460.00 and according to Ebay thats what i won it for. I even got a statment from ebay stating that i won this coin for that amount of money. Well the other day i got the invoice from the auction house and the invoice said i

Thanks to so many of you!

Yep, I'm back (on my feet or at least getting there) It has been a good long while since I have been able to write anything to you great folks out there. Several of you have followed what's been going on personally in my life. I have been out of work for 4 months and have had to sell a rather sizeable quantity of Silver to make ends meet. Sadly I also had to give up (temporarily) on my 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. I had paid a seller over $1,000 towards the purchase price and walked away

Inching upward

Ever so slowly. I entered a handful of coins again tonight, and found a few sets where I apparently had upgraded some sets, but never used the "leftovers" to fill slots in my secondary sets, so I gained a few points on those. I went from about 314,600 to about 314,575 points. My ranking climbed as I hoped, a mere one place, but it moved from 71st to number 70. Considering I had only about 8 coins, mostly of only moderate and little significance, I'll take it happily (several of the coins

New ASE's

87S Finally picked one up! Just placed an order for a 87S PF ASE. Picked it up for a very reasonable price. I have wanted one of these as they are a semi-key to the set. (in my book anyway) I managed to pick up a PF70 for under a grand! I have been shopping around and could not find one for less than $1200, but looking and looking does pay off! This coin will be a very nice addition to my 70 set that I will probably never complete, but sometimes things work out. Just wanted to share my exci

The on Going NGC- PCGS battle.

MODERN COINS?? I just don't get it. The price gap between NGC and PCGS MS-PF 70's. Let's take for example a 2004 Proof ASE. You can get a NGC 70 for about $95, a PCGS will run you about $160. The only thing I can think of is that PCGS will only accept PCGS slabs in the registry. I think that the price gap will get smaller over time, whether PCGS accepts NGC slabs or not. Who knows, maybe one day we will have a third grading company that is widely accepted. Maybe ANACS will make the grad
