Can't keep my big mouth shut!!!!!

About three years ago my mother-in-law told me that in the basement of her parents home in Minnesota was rolls of old coins her father had collected. Her father passed away nearly 30 years ago and no one knew what was down there. Well about a year or so ago she went back to Minnesota to visit and when she returned to San Diego she had brought her Dad?s coins with her. She put these rolls into the safety deposit box and let them sit. Well about six months ago I finally convinced her to let m

Panda Bejing Coin Expo

A good investment? ..I'm in Larry Dreher court on Panda's! The mintages are not that high and as the people in China get more involved in collecting there will be a greater demand!

Oh, I don't believe THIS!!!!

That 1953 Franklin Proof that I had such high hopes for is coming back in a Body Bag REV SCRATCHED. What the? I'll be comparing this against the photo that I took before I submitted it. After spending a small fortune for Express Tier and Express Mail that took 4 days to deliver (although I did get my money back)... I am fuming!

The Final Shot on a Dead Horse

"This would be a kick in the head" The mint, as well as coin world seems to call the '08/07 reverse a VARIETY more so than an error. The mint still illustrates the '07 reverse on there site for the 2008W MS silver eagle. If this is indeed a VARIETY as the mint wants you to think, and not an error, there would be nothing to stop the mint from producing the 2008W in BOTH varieties for all of 2008. After all there is nothing illegal about it, and one way to correct a mistake is to make it intenti

A little more on the 08/07 Reverse

I like the discussion! I am glad to see this coin is creating alot of discussion between people. It's good to see a coin do this especially a modern one. Now my belief why it's value is going upand will stay high. The mintage numbers will have an effect on the coin. If 47,000 is correct or adjusted some time later remains to be seen. But I believe the price reflects how popular the SAE series is. It is the most popular coin(s) being collected right now! People want this coin and want it bad!

Goals..

Scoring and Ranking Well, I was entering some of the coins I just got back from NGC overnight, and they increased my score slightly. My score jumped to just over 295,000 over all Registry points and my overall rank in the Registry dropped from the mid 80s to 76. I have NO idea exactly how much it takes to lower ranks from 88 to 76 as I did, or for that matter, how much it might take to lower myself from 76 to maybe the "Top 50". However, I do have a goal: Simply: I'd like my score to to

20th Anniversary Silver Eagle sets were available for quite some time... The 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle sets were available for a long time, well until Christmas of 2006. I remember having wondered about that. The 3 coin gold set was sold out the first day. That is what some remember, and attribute to the silver sets. As for the relative rarity of the 2008 with 07 reverse, I believe it is being overhyped. Yes! the bidding wars on eBay are crazy, but they are mostly driven by a few who

Further evidence of the irrational price of 2008/07 Eagle

David Fisher's experience furthers the evidence that this coin is too hyped up... As experienced by our fellow collector, no dealer at a big coin show was ready to pay more than $225 for the 2008/07 coin. Of course, they did not want to sell at that price either. Currently, there are hoarders on eBay who would pay much much more for them. And if these dealers had any confidence regarding the sustainability of gigantic price appreciation for these coins, they would have jumped at the chance

Precious Metals Moving Up Again

Silver closed up $.72 today and Platinum is back over $2150/oz! Is this the beginning of the rebound in metals? Platinum has quietly moved back over $2150/oz. Silver up $.72 today to $17.66/oz and gold is up $14.20 today to $918/oz. I hope others have used the "dip" to advantage and picked up any or all 3!! I know I did. One of the latest purchases.

Hype or not find "zero" for sale of the reverse 2007 eagles in Texas

This was the 50th anniversary of TNA (Texas Numismatic Association)coin show. I went to this coin show and there must have been over 250 different dealers present. I am in the process of building a Morgan collection and that was my main reason for going. Now back to the subject at hand! I visited several dealers and when I pulled out an ungraded reverse of 2007 coin to swap, they only wanted to offer me $225 for the coin. On eBay they are selling between $300 and $325 ungraded. I had one deale

Some Very Personal Thoughts on Collecting.

Also, some great news!! Greetings! So, Just like everybody else I have been monitering the ups and ups of the Reverse of 2007 Error coin, and I will be the first to admit that when I read about the Error right here in the Collectors Society, I literally RAN up to my coin collection to see if I did indeed have that Error. Turns out I do not. I was a bit disappointed when I found out I "only had the 2008 Silver Eagle" and then the reality set in about what I was really feeling about my

20th Silver Anniversary set

Is my memory failing? I have been corrected that the 20th anniversary (Silver) set was not available for approximatley 2 months. To my knowledge, the sets went on sale around Holloween and did not sell out until the second week of December (so my estimate is about 6 weeks and I did say approximately). I am not talking about the gold set which sold out within a day. I just remember placing two orders on the Silver Anniversary, one early in which I received in November and one later which I re

2008 w Silver Eagle/ reverse of 07

It's Economics and it's that simple! I agree that this coin will end up being that "once in a lifetime" investment opportunity for coin collectors. It will not even compare to the 2006 anniversary sets (which sold out VERY QUICKLY by the way- not two months). The 2008 is a different variety, and if it sees 25000 I would be surprised. This coin will end up being at least 10 times rarer than the 2006 sets, and probably 10 times the value. With the sets, you could always find 15-20 pages of i

Both sides of the 2008-W 08/07 Reverse Coin

I can see both sides of the argument. Not to mention both sides of the coin. I wouldn't encourage someone to go out and BUY 5, 10, or 40 coins (or more) for the very expensive prices that the coins seem to be commanding now. However, if a collector was lucky enough to have ordered from the Mint say, 20, 30 or more coins, and all of them had the 2008-W, with the 2007 reverse ERROR, I might not discourage him or her from keeping those since they were purchased at initial sale price, quite rea

RE: 08/07 reverse answers all the questions

Don't put all your coins in one roll!! I don't mean to be argumentative, but the 2006 20th anniversary set (SILVER)took almost 2 months to sell out not one day. If I remember correctly, those sets sold for about $4,500 for a NGC PF/MS70 set when first available. You can get that same set today for about $1,500. In my opinion 900 coins per state is quite few. From my perspective I would rather have gold or platinum for the money. I like low mintages and low populations, and high intrinsic valu

My first show

Giddy, I'm just giddy... Can I say that without sounding gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that. My little local town is having a coin show. I've talked with the local coin collecting group and they tell me if I want to sell coins I need to buy a table for 75$ but if I just want to show my coins then that is free. The wierd thing is you can make deals on the side w/o buying a table. Seems awfully strange to me. I plan on showing off my early commemoratives both slabbed and raw in the

08/07 reverse answers all the questions

Why is it that,it is hotter than other coins Forget about mintage for a moment.Ok scratch that one out.The silver eagles is one of the most collected coins out of all other coins. It is like the morgan dollar, every collector has 1 or more.Even the 2006 eagle 3 coin set at 250,000 mintage it is on fire,The mint sold out online before the morning phone orders were placed. Now here is the main reason that this 08/07 coin will remain hot.It is a true error!!Only 47,000 minted and when the smoke clea

Another piece of art. .."In 1492 he sailed the seas of Blue. He wandered from here to there, he wandered everywhere. He came upon a rock and hailed I've found Plymouth rock" ..I think it's amazing the art work they can put on a Coin! ..I purchased this from my local dealer (coin, not drug) and sent it to NGC (#1, not #2, #3 nor #4)for grading! 2008 -W SAE Reverse of '07

STILL DON"T GET IT!! I wish someone would explain the prices ask and receiving for the 2008 ASE with the Reverse of '07. Census reports over 10,000 graded with 4,700 or so in MS70. Where is the rarity? Even if only 47,000 minted. One writer indicated prices at $1,000 for an NGC and $2,100 for a PCGS. I expect that the 2008 W total mintage to be around 600,000 based on prior years and the correct reverse in MS70 is barely breaking $79.00. To make another point look at the 1997 Botanic, only ab
