HEY W.K. F. PART II

I wouldn't want to have it graded. Hi all again, Back to the half crown. I'd say it would be a fine (F). 1928 has such a high mintage, there has to be BU/UNC coins available. The image of the one I did, is a "cupro-nickel" coin. It is BU, and not worth much more than yours. I am sending the obverse of mine to show how much definition there is. Again, I hope this helps. Good Luck to everyone.

I'M ALL DONE!

If I don't have them done by now............ Hello all, I've been really busy doing the homeowner thing and sending a fewcoins to be graded. I can now enter my coins into two registries, but it's tough to compete here. I have a few I wish had been better, but after all, I chose to let PCGS grade them. I do have a great 1d set. I am hoping for a #1 there. It's tough to compete against NGC dealers. It's even tougher to get honest grading. I may even have to use a few NGC slabs to edge out my

A Really cool quarter!

I got a commemorative quarter today! Today my dad got a quarter in his change that had a drummer on it and that quarter reminded me of my Christmas movie about the little drummer boy. My dad and I went into the basement where we looked at some other coins related to the drummer coin. I found out it is part of our county's 200th anniversary coin set! We looked at both the Mint and Proof sets. I searched through our coin supply drawer. I found a round coin case and put the quarter in it. The q

Fueling the fire

Keeping my children interested is something that I hope to keep in the family tradition. My brother tried to get his kids into coin collecting. He got them to finish putting together a set of Memorial pennies. They completed it like it was a job, rather than an adventure. The quicker they got it done, the quicker they could go out and play. I want my children to get more out of it than that, so I give a little, and teach them as I go. I don't know if that will keep their interest, but we'll se

Hurry get yours corralled before they get away. They may be sold out, just like last year! The Herd is corralled I received my 2009 PF 70 Buffalo today I didn?t chase the 2008 Buffalos I collected them, because I cherish their beauty. I don?t how many buffalos will be minted in 2009 and I don?t care. I purchase all of mine at the cheapest price and graded them myself. After I had my coins the Mint sold out and announced the total mintage. Can you believe it was fewer than 20,000? 200

WELL- My wonderful set arived at Heritage Today

120 days from today I will see the sales money Friends, Well I hated sending off the 30+ high grade Morgans but will be very happy when the check clears. In all honesty I over picked my previous coins to an extent that it would cost me over my budget to finish the set accordingly. I guess I will be purchasing quite a few Morgans in March and April to get the set rolling again. Of course the MS67s and MS66s are out of range for the new set. I may put in some MS65s but we'll see this summer how

Three Days in Baltimore

Another fruitful show! The latest Baltimore show is now history. I took off from work Thursday for the B&M lot viewing in the morning, and for the show itself in the afternoon. Only one of the auction lots in which I was interested impressed enough to bid on. It was a Proof 63 Cameo 1890 half dollar. I wanted to put a cent through dollar 1890 set together in 64 as a high school graduation present for my son born in 1990. I'm overdue on the half... At 2PM the doors opened to the public. I

"One Month Anniversary Tomorrow and"...

I would like to ask the "masses" opinion...& to vote your choice! Greetings Collectors, As the "month" mark arrives on Nov. 17th from when I asked for help. I find myself "undecided" as to which picture looks best? I am refering to showing the entire "holder" with the coin "OR" crop just the "coin" only. I am torn between the two and the reasons are. One could take any picture of any coin with a particular date and mintmark and insert it there in the slot allotted. Of couse what's stoppi

Fantastic Addition to a Neglected Set

haven't bought a sailing ship coin in 6 months ! No I haven't abandoned my "HIGH SEAS" signature collection. To many who read the journals and are members of various boards that chat about coins..I'll probably always be known as " the ship coin guy." It's just that I've been so focused on getting some key Walker upgrades while it seems that many higher grade- nicer coins have hit the market. I don't know why so many upper grade Halves have hit the market, maybe people having tough times are

Having Fun

...with my ungraded coins, and in spite of my money woes. Hi All, I've been reading all the journal entries about redoing pictures, so I decided to work on mine some more. I did pick up one tip from the journals I read, and that is to tilt my camera slightly so it's not shooting straight into the slab. I have forgotten which journal this tip was in, but you know who you are and I thank you immensely. Another variable that has helped me is putting the camera (which is on a very short tripod

1955 Franklin PCGS-65-FBL...Reverse...

"The Flip Side" The reverse on this coin is nice enough to be "shared". There are not many of us that know just how rare, coins from this series are in "Gem" "Brilliant" uncirculated condition. This is a coin that I remember where I was when I bought it, what I was thinking, and how much I paid for it. I forget who it was but, they used a term "jump out at ya coins". Well this is how this one hit me. I hope to get "hit" by a '62-P soon... Keep Collecting! WKF

"Just an observation, but what do I know?" Greetings Collectors, I guess you all are stuck with hearing from me, every day or two. Sorry... My work has dried up here in N.E. Florida and while there are a "million" things I could be doing in the way of re-modeling my own home, I choose to surround myself with coins and magazines and cameras, and any and all things "Numismatic". The Libertas Americana Medal and its Influence on our Earliest Coins

How our early coins show our passion to be free! The end of the Revolutionary War came about when the British Commons, weary of the war, voted in April of 1782 to end the war in America. On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, officially ending the Revolutionary War. About that time, Benjamin Franklin with an idea for a medal, commissioned French Engraver Augustin Dupre to prepare the dies for the Paris Mint to strike the ?Libertas Americana? medal in 1783. Getting Back to My Roots

This past week reminded me why I love this hobby so much Greetings! This has been a hell of a year in the coin world, if you ask me. Especially if you collect Silver American Eagles in MS and Proof state. I was totally dismayed after getting the email from the Mint stating that the Silver Eagle collectors mintages would be cancelled this year, actually "until further notice". Maybe that means next year, too? Who knows? But, I soon realized that this hobby has too many other aspects

"Graduation Day- Pic State University"

"The FEAR of the Unknown is a Massive One"... Greetings Collectors, On Oct. 17th I posted a plea for help. This help I needed was to obtain the knowhow of coin photography and even more so, the art of editing and cropping/resizing. I am pleased to announce that on a day which has always been a "Lucky Day" for me, Friday the 13th November 2009, is the day I feel very comfortable in saying, "I got this s--- down pat!" 1891-Carson City-MS64 = 6 Months Ago Friends & Society, Previously I was going to sell some coins I knew I wanted to upgrade so I contacted Heritage and started a list. The values were around 12,000 and then I looked at bills that needed taken care of and things around here we need and the values went to 22,000. Not having a lot left in the set that was high grade I put the rest in the box yesterday, valued at 32,000 and went strait to the post office before I changed my mind. I woke

How to tell a genuine NGC slab

The situation we're in now with counterfeit slabs flooding the market from China is serious. I've been reading over the last year about the flood of counterfeit coins coming out of China. To make matters worse, they are getting better and better at counterfeiting not just the coins, but the NGC and PCGS holders (slabs) as well. I don't understand how the Canadian government can crack down on EBay, where many of these counterfeits are sold, yet the US government doesn't do a damn thing. And a

Describing coins takes time!

I'm trying to document my collection better. A few entries ago I wrote that I'd be spending some time improving the descriptions of my registered coins. I've spent two evenings doing that so far, and have done only 13 of my middle date large cents. Despite the fact that I already had descriptions for most of them, it has been taking a long time to standardize the format and content, update/rewrite my descriptions (short though they be), and copy catalog descriptions into the registry. Silver Proof Statehood Quarter Set

Just viewed my first completed set since returning to the hobby... Howdy to the collecting world of numismatics, Upon returning to the hobby in 2006, I decided to complete a set of silver proof statehood quarter. After the completion of the set, it sat in storage till I registered the set with NGC registry. As many knows, the 1999 Delaware quarter was the kicker. It determines what kind a collector are you. I can state that I am still in debt because of that purchase. The other thing I can s
