"Latest Treasures That Arrived Today"

Now I am only "lacking" one coin... Greetings Collectors, I have somewhat blown my "vow" of refraining from spending any more money on coins for the remainder of the year. Well, I guess the vow may still be good as I bought the two Gold Eagles before I made this promise to myself. Oh, and then the minor glitch when I purchased a pawltry two roll set of the latest Lincoln Cent, along with another couple of "Braille" items. This was a small expenditure of about $100. That really shouldn't coun

Copper

The New Silver? With copper wavering between $3.13 & $3.20 per lb, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that since it only takes 145 copper pennies to make a pound, that there may be some profit to be made in the future. FYI, if you save pennies for copper speculation, save everything 1981 & older. You can save 1982 also, but there were copper coins AND zinc coins minted that year. There are actually 7 different varieties in 1982, with copper or zinc large and small dates. So unl

Forced to 'Settle"

it's all about the coins I'm sure that I'm not the only one who does this, however since the journals are supposed to be about our personal collecting experience-- this is my story..and my personal quirk. When building a set, especially a set of classic coinage, I decide what grade/s I'd like to assemble the set in according to my price range. Most classic sets will have a key-date or two that either have to be purchased in a lower grade or money needs to be saved to purchase them in my t

Why does one need more than one or two SETS of the "SAME COIN SERIES"???

Or maybe three, unless it's just for the "POINTS"... Greetings Collectors, I haven't made anyone mad lately, least wise I haven't heard about it, so I guess I'm due. I have looked at and continue to look at sets others have here at the CS. Before I go on, I just want to say that I love seeing the "diversity" and all the photos as well. But what is really annoying, is when someone has a dozen or more of the same set. I mean really, how many Sac dollar sets are enough? One collector here has #

Which to Focuse On? Commemoratives or American Eagles

Which to Focuse On? Commemoratives or American Eagles So I recently received a message from another member giving me some advice about collecting Commemoratives. I am attempting to collect a full set of Modern Commemoratives in PF 70 and MS 70. While I am doing this I am also working at building full sets of Modern American Eagles in both PF 70 and MS 70. This is going to be quite a challenge. A member brought up a great point about collecting the perfect set of Modern Commemoratives. H

Re: Multiple same series sets by WKF

How many does 1 person need? Hi Community, I just read WKF's journal entry. It's funny because I was just going through set standings yesterday and saw 1 individual that had 57 YES 57 (at least) sets in the same standings. None of the "sets" had more than 2 coins in them. No pictures just 1 coin in each, maybe a couple with 2 coins. I have 2 Presidential sets but I have 2 kids. These sets are a major point getter. But if all I am after is points then that is the way to go. Prices on the Pr

more of the same? or did we MISS the point? Hi Namvette68 and fellow collectors, If you have read any of the articles about the fake coins, with and without the word copy stamped on them and the faked slabs and how to id them, you need to see most of the slab (IF IN A SLABBED HOLDER) in a picture in order to have a chance to ID it. PCGS posted a note about viewing the back side of the slab, seeing the halo label and the 4 circular spots viewed around the coin. These spots show a connection

Finals (finally) and Goals for 2010

Been a busy week... Greetings! First of all, good luck to all of you competing in this years sets and journals. I hope you all had time to get your sets and journals ready for judging. This is my first eligible year on the coin side with 55% of my SAE set complete, so I am excited to see if my set is good enough to win anything. Last week was finals week in my classes, and I am happy to report so far I have done well ( my poli-sci class is graded in totality, and my humanities class is

CAC Submittal #3 & some overall statistics

The results are in for my 3rd CAC submittal. And this one was a little disappointing. Nine coins were submitted , and 5 coins received stickers and four did not. That comes out to a 55.5% success rate. From what I've read that seems about typical, but I was surprised as I really felt that all four of the coins that did not sticker were going to, based on what I had seen with my first two submittals. At any rate for all three submittals 27 out of 35 coins stickered for a rate of 77.1%. NGC co

PCGS, NGC, or Both??????????

Should I play the population reports to get the highest grade on my coins? I have often wondered whether it would be in my best interest to be a member of both NGC?s Collectors Society and PCGS?s Collectors Club. With submission privileges for both services, I wonder if I could use the large samplings in both population reports to predict which service might give the highest grade on a particular coin. Case in point, I have written in the past of the tendency of PCGS to grade Queen Wilhelmina

2009 Braille Education Set

One of just a few... Greetings Collectors, First of all I just want to say I find it sad that for one collector, some of you "Reach Out" and for another... some of you "Lash Out"... It almost makes us "blind", don't you think?. Just wonder what Mr. Louis Braille (1809-1852) would have thought of us?... very, very sad indeed, shame on us... This is the "reverse" of the center section, of the "three fold" Education set, one of less than 10,000 sold. I would have shared the "middle page obve

Silver Dollars dilemna

Ethics is numero uno. In my humble opinion, based on the facts as presented in your post, you have done everything a responsible seller should do and everything a responsible buyer should expect. If a buyer wants to be sure of satisfaction in a transaction, then he should be willing to insure the delivery. My understanding is that if you pay by Paypal, the buyers purchase is guaranteed, as per a refund from Paypal. I am sure that your rating is 100% and you have never had a problem before.

Ebay seller

They had to do it. In responce to Silver Dollar. Because of a few bad sellers that were scamming their customers, Ebay has had to make it the sellers responsability to ensure that the buyer is getting what they paid for. In the long run it will be better for us the seller because, if there is a trust that what the buyer is buying is described right and that they will recieve it, they will be more willing to pay a higher price. Right now when someone buys on Ebay they are factoring in that th

Seller versus Buyer

Just where does the responsibility start and end? This is addressed to not only the collectors out there, but also to the dealers who are also part of this site family. I need to solicit some opinions here. This is the situation; I sold a Franklin Half, 1963 NGC MS-64 to an individual through Ebay. Now he claims that he has not received the item and has opened a complaint on Ebay. I have provided him with a copy of the Post Office receipt showing the posting to him. Obviously he has not p

Six Conder tokens enjoy thier new NGC costumes These six Conder tokens from the late 1700s in Great Britain had been waiting to get slabed for some time know. New Louis Braille Commemorative and Decision of Collector's Society Membership. Today I received the first of my 2 coins that I bought. The one I received today was my Louis Braille Commemorative in MS70. The coin is in great condition and will be a great addition to my collection.
