Gold going crazy

do you sell now or buy? While at the local coin store I was chatting with the dealer and saw customers coming in and selling gold hand over fist. Then a few minutes later a guy came in asking to buy any gold he was willing to sell! My dealer friend told me that this goes on all day long. Some people sell and some come in begging to buy what ever he will sell. Same with silver! He can not keep a silver coin in stock, raw or certified! The only silver coins he has in stock is old dimes and q

No,not really gold unless I received the rarest mint error of all.But when you view this coin you would say it is.The coin has uniform and complete toning on both sides. This coin looks even way better in person than the photos.I would say it equals the visual appearance of any $50 buffalo out there,it is that impressive.I dont know of any buf

Special coin coming to auction, special collection coming to a close

Im usually not one to promote a coin in an auction, especially if i dont own it but for the collecting community at large i believe its worth a look...you may not get another chance! Usually i wouldnt post a journal about an upcoming coin but after reviewing the preview to the upcoming Long Beach auction i came across something special. The coin in question, the as Heritage described, "Near Mythic" 1849-C Open Wreath Gold Dollar. Now many of you may have never heard of this coin before and

"MORE GORGEOUS SILVER!"

And also have been buying some 2008-w unc. Gold... Greetings Collectors, Since Jan. 1st my "self imposed" moratorium on "newps" (new purchases) has expired and I have been wasting little time in making up for "lost time". most of my buys have been in the form the "metal" takes before it is refined into blanks. I have however been buying several pieces of "modern gold" because of two things. Number one the 2008 "fractionals" have extremely "low mintage" figures & I am continuing to see pr

ORLANDO FUN is over

I did quite well on my set Friends, As you know I did send the best of my set to Heritage for auction. I do have a passion for the collection so you know I had some hefty reserves on quite a few of them. I was pretty happy to see 85% to 120% values on sales. It seemed that coins worth $300 to $550 went very fast. The high grade coins drug out forever and 6 came back to the house. My 1879-s MS67,1880-o MS64,1889-o MS64, 1898 MS66,1900-o MS66 & 1921-D MS66 CAC. I am still working on the Mor

RE: HOW IS IT POSSIBLE!?

I can be very sure that HSN is Pre selling 2010 ASE's!! I think everyone is going to get a big kick out of this one, The next time all of you watch HSN selling and showing graded coins that no one has at that time, look close at the ANACS slab and the coin in the slab! Several weeks ago when the 2009 proof buffalo was released,HSN about a week later was selling and showing a ANACS graded PF70 before anyone else had there hands on it. I said to myself "this can't be true" Then I got a clo

EBAY SCAMMERS

Do You think this is violating the copy right laws?? A Gentleman on EBay is using the Grade Name NGP; (Numismatic Grading Pros) Giving Coins the Grades above and beyond the coins physical appearance. Example: 1954-D Franklin 50c MS-65 Grades for $110.00 and NGP's Grading is MS-68, and the actual appearance of the coin by the naked eye is clearly AU/MS-60 priced at $20.00 Big Difference.   NGP is very close to our Used Grading Name NGC, now the problem is the seller on EBay (mr.morgan) is

"MAYBE A SOLUTION TO THE U.S. MINT'S "SILVER SHORTAGE"...

Then again, this would not help at all... nor would I even think of doing it...Greetings Collectors,Just rolled back into town after being in the "boonies" away from the internet & cell phones visiting my dad and logged on to get a brief "snippit" of the 2009 journal awards. First off, congrats to all the winners as they all truely deserve it. While some have complained about the journals in general, having lost "something", (still haven't quite figured out what they were refering to)I coul

EXCLUDED COUNTRIES

WHERE ARE THE GERMANS Hi collectors,I recently bought some german coins and come to find that the collector society doesnt include them in competitive world coinage. So,Ive been wondering why they dont. They have a wide array of interesting coinage going back 500 plus years. The society includes France,Great Britain and other european coins. If anybody knows why or why not these great german coins are excluded, please post up.So i did the next best thing,I made a signature set up and titled it"TH

Oh the wait!

Waiting to see the grade. Having submitted coins for my first time I've never thought that it could be so nerve racking to wait for the time to come. The Heinz ketchup " anticipation, making me wait" commercial comes to mind. In some ways it is exciting to finally be in the world of collecting. I've been collecting for some time but have never bothered with getting the coins graded or even compared how they may stack up with others out there. I can't wait to find out. David

I Am Honored

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this is not a dream! It is hard for me to find the right words with which to express how I feel after discovering that I won the award for number 2 ?Best Presented Set? and the ?Journal Award? for 2009. Just imagine that, a ?Journal Award? winner at a loss for words as I am now, preposterous! The only thing that I can say is that I am honored and humbled. I am honored that ?Gary?s 20th Century Type Set? is counted as one of the five ?Best Presen

I really won?

I was completely unexpecting this! The number 1 Best Presented set for my mom's 1947 birth year mint set? I didn't even bother checking out the winners until about mid-day on the 9th. I had about twenty completed sets of modern coins that I knew would get No. 1 awards along with the masses, so for me it was really no big deal. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy completing each and every set and I hang on to the certificates that NGC sends us to commemorate the occasion. I think the fa

I Don't Remember Well

But I'm almost positive I saw an article in last year's Coin World congratulating the winner's of NGC's awards. Can anyone corraborate this and if so tell me which issue it was in? I've looked through my issues 3 times and can not put my hands on it. Thanks for the "Best Presented Set" NGC. I never dreamed it would happen! Michael

Journals!

Great Fun to Read! It's been awhile since I've made a journal entry. The recovery from my Heart surgey, and related problems from that is taking along time to get back to (normal?). All my Doctors sing the same tune it takes time. It was very nice to see some new faces on the Journal Awards. I think with only three awards, it takes someone with really great skills to win back to back awards. Since 2004, I've only read two or three people that meet that requirement. Since I've been sick, m

Keeping me awake

Can we make these teasers optional? I'm not creative enough to write a good one. I was just checking my email after checking the status of my Heritage bids before going to bed. There was a message from a Collectors Society friend congratulating me for a 2009 Journal Award. This comes as a surprise, as I just started using this feature of the Registry in December 2008 and have not been as prolific or, in my view, as interesting as some of the other journal writers. In any case, for the most
