Re: Quandry of Quandries and Woo Hoo!

I say leave them in. Although I'd have to say I'm not an expert but I believe if you remove them from their case NGC might not grade them as a set! Good Luck! Finally the wait has ended and three out of five coins I submitted in my first shipment are 70's including the 2007 Buffalo, 2009 Platinum Eagle and the 2009 Double Eagle High Relief. The other two coins got a 69 which include the 2009 Buffalo and Jefferson's Presidential Spouse Coin. The spouse coin will be up for sale on Ebay soon unde

Something Different for Me

A Fittingly Fast Delivery of a Mercury Dime Shipped just yesterday, my first slabbed Mercury Dime arrived today. (The shipping notice was sent Monday, but that was a holiday.) In addition to my efforts to build a quality collection of large cents and more recently of half dimes, I want to assemble a decent type set. When I saw that top quality, common date Mercury dimes are available and not too awfully expensive, I started looking at auction offerings. I picked one out from the Heritage aucti

Slabbed coins

My collection Just thought I would brag on my collection. We have a 1946 Mint set, a 1947 Mint set, a complete set of Merc Dimes, and two almost complete. We have at least one proof set from every year starting with 1960, and going to present day. We have 20 2001 Silver Proof sets, and about 100 or so duplicates of the years from 1999 to present day, Silver & Clad. No prestige sets, as we plan to slab every proof coin we have, and each set we get from then on and prestige sets are the same

Pennies

Copper I just realized I had a message from someone in here about my Lincoln pennies post a week or so ago. Don't get me wrong, I am not letting ANY collectible Lincolns go to the smelter. I have about 70 on-going collections of them, and plan to expand to as many as needed to use up my good Lincolns. I am pretty lenient on condition. They must be readable, and they must not have any foreign material or stains on them. THOSE pennies will go to the smelter. But even the ones that have been impr

I finally made it ..... coming in at number 32, for now

A complete Kennedy Collection Yesterday, I entered the last 3 Kennedy's I needed to complete my collection. The 1998 SMS, the 1971 and the 1999 Clad. I am so happy that finally I have completed this collection. Now as time and funds permit I can upgrade if and which ones I want. I did upgrade the 1991 already (got a great deal on it) I ended up buying the 1971 S on Tele-Trade as it was the only place I could find one. Even with the buyers fee I still got a good deal. So there it is fr

Re-Holdered

Beasts to Beauties I purchased an NGC 1936 Satin 5C PF67 and an NGC 1924 25C MS67FH a couple months ago in badly scratched holders (especially the quarter.) Actually, the coins weren't beasts, but superb coins in beastly garb. I just received them back from being re-holdered in NGC's new scratch-resistant holders. The coins' tremendous qualities show through wonderfully in them. It was worth every penny to have them done.

WOOHOO!!

The NumisGod is smiling on me!! My prize collection (well...someday I hope to win a prize for it) is my Eisenhower Proof Dollars. Currently sharing the number 6 spot. Well, my numisfriends, that is soon to change. I will be moving up to a solo position, perched in the number 5 slot. WOOHOO!! I know this doesn't seem like a real big deal, as there are only 11 coins in the set, but let me tell you... some of them are pretty spendy and very hard to get. The Proof-70Ultra Cams are almost imp

MY FIRST 70 OF THE NEW YEAR

I guess it takes a miracle? Hello everyone! I just received my first 70 of the year. It's the 2010 $15 Canada Lunar Lotus, Year of the Tiger. It is absolutely gorgeous. I checked it out and it is flawless for such a high mintage strike. It's number 10507 of 19888. The RCM has craftsmanship that is unequaled. Their coins show Canadian imagination and beauty. Their subject diversification and commemorative dedication makes them a great choice for collectors. Unlike the US, stuck on eagles a

More Submissions for 2010!

More Coming I just sent by second submission to NGC today. It's the last of The First Day of Mintage Presidential Covers for 2009! Also, I posted my newest purchase. The 2008-W Buffalo G $5. I sure wish I had been smart enough to purchase these when they first came out. My Buffalo Herd is sure growing. They consist of 3 from the Salt Lake City 2000 Olymic Winter Games. I don't count my pictures of buffalo, but I do count my gold and silver ones!

1872 and 1880 proof sets being created

To build or not to build... a classic proof set. I enjoy listening to people in the numismatic industry/business expressing their professional point of views. This weekend, I was viewing a video from DLRC. I was listening to the market report when two people were talking at the same time, and I missed the something. So I e-mailed the person and asked what did he said on the video. Surprised or not surprised with today technology, I received a response from you guessed it...the person I e-mail

Cross-over Grading Question

How do the others fair? Being relatively new to collecting graded coins, I have played it safe and stuck to getting only NGC and PCGS graded coins. I figured since they are both recognized in the registry their grading is fairly similar. How do the other grading services (i.e. ANACS, ICG, SGC and others) compare when crossing coins over to NGC grading so the coins can be added to the reistry? Is it worth incurring the cost of having the coins re-graded? Thanks

Another Hole Filled

And other miscellaneous finds this weekend I finally got to go through the Eisenhower Dollars in the hoard of coins passed on to me from my mother. I do believe she was looking out for me this weekend. While there were not a great many Ikes, less than 20, in the bottom of the box were three nice ?Blue Ikes? still on their original packaging. Along with the ?71, ?72, and ?73 ?Blue Ikes? was a ?71 ?Brown Ike? as well. Those were nice but the real find from my perspective was in the loose Ikes. H

DownUnder looking UP

Trying to learn right from the right!!! Being new to collecting US coins I've joined up here. Not only because I trust the company NGC to Slab & grade my collection but for the wealth of knowledge. You have so many different collectible coins, I'm fascinated by Morgans (the coin that started me on the US road) Love some of your Gold as I do Australian. So hope to gain and grow in knowledge as we go on into 2010. I'll post lists of my collection as I proceed with the slabbing and re-slabbin

A Different Perspective

trade silver and gold for paper dollars? I have read at least 4 or 5 recent journals where posters have talked about selling off their silver and gold bullion and coins while the price is "high". For the sake of a different perspective and so that visitors to our site don't think that we're all of like mind on this... I'm of the opinion that you haven't seen anything yet. I thought it might be of interest to some who read these journals to at least get a little balanced viewpoints ( and a

Gotta Get Me Some Bars

I need some silver bars now! I keep hoping that Kerry will flex his mental muscle and post a side-by-side image. Okay, onto the real subject. I need to get me some silver bars like Kerry has. Wow! Those ones he's posting are so cool. I NEED one. I guess what I like about them other than the shear mass, is the history. You can see the history in those bars. Each nick and crevasse...one can only imagine. I like the marks too. I gotta get me some too. See: http://coins.www.collect

Whether or not to buy gold

Hmm I sell gold when the spot is above $1200.00 . I buy it if it is lower than $1000.00 . That works for now, but will have to be modified as price drops or falls below those levels. Silver is a good investment as bullion when spot is less than $16.00. I sell silver at $18.00. As for copper, people tend to overlook that it is about $3.40 lb. I believe copper will go to $5.00 or more by next Xmas. There are about 145 copper pennies in a lb. So copper should be $1.45 lb, right? Watch in the nex

All That Glitters is Not Gold

Or even Silver for that matter I am not nor have I ever been a commodities trader. However, I have always had a love of numbers and modeling various systems in an attempt to gain insight into the possible future behavior of those systems. The comments posted by Augustus prompted me to see if I could modify one of those models to analyze the current situation with the prices for precious metals in particular silver. I agree with Augustus! Silver is due for a correction and I believe his estim

A Type Collector at Heart

How did I change from one collecting goal to another? I remember the first registry set I established when I joined Collector?s Society about a year and a half ago. At that time, I wanted to start a complete collection of uncirculated Silver American Eagles because I liked the design and could acquire the coins for a reasonable amount of money. In other words, completing a set of primarily MS-69 coins was a very achievable goal. With that in mind, I created the set and began purchasing the coi
