I have lost them also
I wonder if it is possible that with the economy like it is, and not being able to raise the rates again so soon, they are losing packages on purpose to encourage more people to insure and pay for extra services to generate more revenue. It is possible. Might be far fetched, but it took me months to finally get reimbursed for my lost (insured)coins. And it happened THREE times. Makes me wonder why my regular mail gets through, but only my INSURED packages are missing. I s
It's gotta show up sooner or later!
Friends, I do believe that the postal service is short handed. Maybe due to flue along with the weather problems (ice,Mudslides,Snow). I also have been waiting over 2 weeks for a check from audrop for one of the good coins in my set. I know he is irritated that it has not made it to my house yet but what can you do. Hopefully they will catch up and get all the packages and mail where they belong. So be patient and eventually (when you think the worst) the pa

Part Two
Just thought I'd tell the community what I've possibly lost forever through the USPS. 2008 W $50 Gold Buffalo, 2007 $25 and $10 Gold Eagles, 2000 P A.E. Proof, all four of the Australian Koalas, 2005 Kookaburra and my Jamestown $5 Gold Commemorative as well as a PF69 Jeffersons' Liberty I mailed to an Ebay Member. That's right two seperate packages via registered mail with insurance are lost. BEWARE.
I Shall Keep On Keepin' On
I do intend to continue hoarding copper. I think everyone except a few beginners know that you never receive full price when selling scrap, or ANYTHING for that matter. But if you hoard copper to sell in a few months, do not look for any profit. The good thing about copper pennies is that they have a cross value as coins in a collection. You cannot lose by hoarding them. As for them taking up too much space, ... well we have a house with 3 bedrooms, one designated fo
Nice to Know.
It is nice to know there is someone else from Iceland on this site. I was born in Iceland and have a few coins myself although they are not as old as yours.
Back from NCS/NGC
I checked my USPS tracking number this morning and my 5 proof coins are coming home to me today. After reading a recent journal by davidk about going postal I became a little worried about the post office losing my coins but was very happy and relieved to see that I'm getting them back this morning. These coins are very rare (10 to 15 minted for each) but not expensive. They can range from $70 to $125 dollars for impaired proofs and up to 3 to 4 times that in BU condition. I'
They come in so many pretty colors.
Okay. Here goes a post I hinted at a few weeks ago.
I love stars and I love stickers. I'm an astronomer by education and work on the Hubble Space Telescope project. My dissertation dealt with a particular variety of "young stellar objects". There isn't much better than being out in the middle of nowhere on a clear, dark night, under all those stars! And when I was a kid, I had a thing for stickers of every sort. I fight that urge now better than I used
Incompetant
It seems as if the Post Office has at least misplaced if not lost my coins. It really makes me wonder why prices to ship items continue to increase when they can't seem to get the delivery right or on time. I'll trust a carrier pigeon before I send another box via U.S.P.S. I guess it's time to research FEDEX. Hope everyone is having better luck than I spinning the will it get there or not wheel.
Don't expect to get rich anytime soon of ever!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Journal: There are a few more things we should remember when thinking about scrap values. The values you see quoted are not going to be the price you get no matter what kind of metal it is. The quoted value is for the highest purity and cleanliness. As I am in the metal cutting business it is something I have to deal with
often. Scrap dealers are notorious for get the lowest possible price, since the lower they buy the more profit
Bouncing Beagles
Well, I Have done it again!! Starting a new set!!! This time it is the 1/4oz. Gold American Eagles. Love the gold coins!!! I started the set with the 1995, which I scored last week. When you submit your first time. What do you expect?
I respected the professional quality of inspecting and evaluating of my five 1/10 oz platinum coins. I hoped that the coins were in the upper 60 grade. What I got was three-67 grade and 2-69 grade. I was estatic and considered myself very lucky.
A lot of tedium, but excellent info in the end.
Today, I am working on updating my Presidential Coin Collection Descriptions. In a nutshell, I am compiling the information given by the US Mint in several places to give the following information for each coin:
Name of President, Order (i.e., First President), Office Term (i.e., 1789-1797)
Obverse:

Who cares if melting is illegal?
First, an intro on dropping the penny from circulation. I visited Australia a decade ago. They already had dropped the penny from circulation, but prices sometimes were more precise than nickels. After "sales tax", the merchants rounded to the nearest $.05 or $.10.
I can't imagine the penny ever leaving the USA. We're too politically attached. I think it will go obsolete, but probably at the same time that ALL of our coinage goes obsolete ... right when
Hi
I would like to thank my good friend Denny Lebo for getting me involved in coin collecting. I am currently an ANA member, and secretary of the Stark County Coin Club. I enjoy collecting U.S Half Dollars, especially Franklin Halfs. I also would like to thank Akron Coins and R and I coins for helping me acquire my favored coins and sets. Please view and comment fluently on all of my registered sets.

Learned more than I thought I would
Thank you to the posters who responded to my post about copper. I have learned a lot from a few of you on this subject. I have a hoard of copper pennies I have saved for future rises in price, but looks like they are still worth more as specimens in a Lincoln Cent collection. I did not know about that law concerning cents and nickles. I guess going to the local recycler or smelter would draw a look as though they were sniffing a small turd if I brought them
These are slabbed by NGC
Someone sent me a site to be able to provide everyone in here a link to photos of our coins. The e-mail was accidentally deleted, and I forgot who it was that sent it. Whoever you are, thank you, and please remind me who you are so I can add you to friend list, if you aren't already. Anyway, here is a photo link of our 1946 Mint set. These are all slabbed except the 'P' dime, which came back 'obverse improperly cleaned'. I still need to find one of those in a decent gr
Unlike gold and silver there are laws against exporting and melting one one and five cent coins
Blow is a brief summury of what I mean no scrap dealer will touch them.
FINAL REGULATION ISSUED PROHIBITING THE EXPORTATION, MELTING, OR TREATMENT OF UNITED STATES ONE-CENT AND 5-CENT COINS
On April 10, 2007, United States Mint Director Edmund Moy approved a final rule that generally prohibits the exportation, melting, or treatment of United States one-cent coins (pennies) and 5-cent coin
A nice up grade from a MS-66!
I think the Pandas are very nice to collect. The design is changed very year, but still keep the Panda.
I don't know about Precious Metals, but I treat them just like the stock! Keep buying slow and stead and over time you will make out just fine! That's why I'm into collecting coins, SILVER, GOLD and some others.
They have a great website also
Let me start by saying that I quickly scoped out your website, and will return to look further as soon as I am done with this post. I am not really very knowledgeable about the stock market, but I have been following gold and silver prices for the last 10 years or so, and although anything can happen, I believe that gold will not fall below $900.00. I think silver will hold right around $13 or $14. I must be honest though, I do not follow platinum, as it has alwa
More of our collection
Here is another link to our slabbed coins. http://yfrog.com/6x1999silverpfj http://yfrog.com/0n1999cladpfj
The only 70PF to come back was the clad 99 dime. But we have 4 more sets of clad, and silver proof sets, and hopefully will get some 70's out of the lot of 'em.
Only one non NGC slab in this one
This is our 1947 Mint set. We could not find an NGC slabbed one at the time, but it will be replaced eventually.
