Hiding in Plain Sight

Or are they just waiting in a vault somewhere It is so frustrating. I bought an extra page for my Whitman bookshelf album to hold circulation finds of the 2009 quarters. So far, and we are well into 2010, I have only found the American Samoa and Puerto Rico Denver Mint quarters in circulation. When I was filling my States album, I ALWAYS managed to at least find one of each quarter, although not both mints, before the end of each calendar year. I cannot believe how difficult it has been to

had to start new signature set Hi,just wanted to share my newest aquisition. An 1848 10c essai maz-1304.This is the only one graded by NGC and is ms-63 bn.I don't know why the collectors society ignores most non gold world coins in their competitive sets. I had to start another signature set, just won't get any points. If you can't score essais than something has to crack. NO WORLD GOLD-NO SCORE- everything else has gone global, how about we throw world coins into the mix. Thanks for listening an

Its an upgrade, but oh what an upgrade Today the Kennedy I was really looking forward to arrived. It is the 1998 Specimen in SP70 grade. Although to be quite honest I can't tell the difference between my 69 and the 70. Ok, so I wear corrective lens !!!! So now I will part with the 69. Have my eye on another upgrade this week. I did upgrade a couple of Kennedy's last week to PF70UC (1988 & 1989). Reholdered the 1967 SMS and received that last week as well. Here is a photo of the ne

Rhonda Berenne ---> silver dollar collector...and more

Watch my collection as it grows... I began to become fascinated with coin collections early in life, possibly as early as 10 years old. My grandmother owned a small diner in NY, serving lunches and dinners for the men who worked for the American Can Company, as well as the men who worked for the Lehigh Valley RR, and the passengers who rode the trains. I can recall a spaghetti dinner costing 25 cents at that time.

Trying to make up my mind.

Recently I've been bouning all over the place with what I buy. I've been keeping up with all you folks and your journals recently, BTW congrats to the award winners this year. Recently I have found myself with the problem of setting a goal for myself with a certain set. I seem to start sets but quickly loose interest in them and move on to somthing else. I guess I just like most everything out there. I have come across a coin though that has caught my eye. The Great Britain Trade Dollar has

One Ike Left To Get

The 72 var. 2 is in hand. So far this month I haven?t picked up one graded coin! Oh they are out there but I?m not willing to pay the prices some people are asking. I probably could have picked up one or two but part of this journey is NOT to spend money hand over fist. For me the challenge is not getting the coin, the challenge is getting the coin at a very reasonable price. Let?s face it, if I won the lottery tomorrow I could pretty much fill many of my sets with top end coins but then where

Do you know?

2004 Isle of Man KM#1219 Does anybody know if NGC will grade the coin which is 14cm in diameter? What kind of holder will be used? I know that the over sized holder will be used for the coin which is less than 12cm in diameter. Thanks for all.

Pictures

Registry Pictures Finally finshed up my pictures for my registry. I have to say that my wife has mad skills. Ive been trying to get it right for sometime now. She takes a crappy 6 year old digital camera and snaps some great shots. Then she gets them the perfect size to load to my registry. So, my hat is off to my wife.. she rocks!!

Update on whats going on.. Kookaburras and Gilt Kookaburras...

2006 Gilt Kookaburra MS70 found ! I got one MS70 I needed, and the quest continues Soon I will submit a pile of kookaburras. A fair few 1990, a few 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001. If I can get a 70 for each I will be over the moon, 2010 objective complete The 2007 Gilt Kookaburra so far eludes me, and 0 exist in the NGC population. If you have this coin and know how to check for the MS70 grade, do it ! it seems to be the toughest of the lot. Am going to find a couple more and I

Scarce? Hardly.

I just need to be patient. I have been working on a Winged Liberty dime date set for a few months now and have found the 1918 and 1925 seem to be very difficult to find. I recently bid on a 1925 which was bid up to, what I thought, was a highly unreasonable 50% over the listed numismedia value. Now I understand those values are just general guidelines but I also note that most coins, on Ebay or Teletrade, do not normally exceed those listed values by too much and often are obtainable for qui

MY EAGLES ARE IN THE EERIE

69'S and 70'S oh my!!!! Dear Journal: My roll of American Silver Eagles have been graded all are Early Release with 6 out of the 20 getting MS 70 all the rest MS69. That works out to 30% of my eagles getting MS70 compared to the census report that is saying that only 6% of the 193,847 graded so far have graded MS70, which makes me feel pretty good. I was surprised to see that there are over 70,000 more 2010 E.R. Eagles certified than in 2009 and 2010 has just started. With the population of o

My First $3 Gold Coin

Fits my Gold Type Set and 1856 Mint Set Today my first $3 gold piece arrived. It is graded AU53 and is a rather nice coin. Minimal marks and wear! Lots of lustre remains! It has a larger diameter than what I was expecting, given the size of a quarter eagle. 26,010 minted. Better images are in the sets

A Thought or Two

A little rumination on the allowance of PCGS coins in the NGC registry I have been a collector for over 40 years but have only recently begun exclusively collecting coins certified by NGC or PCGS. Truth be told, the reason it took so long for me to enter this area was a kind of silly prejudice that I could HOLD my coins while those poor souls with slabbed coins could only gaze at their hermetically sealed beauties from outside it's plastic cell. Silly yes, but that's what I thought. Now

FINISHED!

After nearly a year, and a significant investment of time and money, Gary?s 20th Century Type Set is complete. Just under a year ago, I embarked on a journey to complete a non-gold, circulation only, 20th century type set. There are several reasons I decided to assemble this set, the first is that I am a type collector. Secondly, from a practical perspective, the set has 39 coins, 30 of which I purchased in ?mint state? for under $100, many for under $50. Fueled by a competitive nature, I had

Great addition to my Proof SAEs

One of the best to ever come from the US Mint. Hi everyone, What an awesome day today is! I finally have my 2006 Reverse Proof SAE in a PF70 grade. I have been looking to upgrade my PF69 for over a year but it seemed that every time I had the spare change, I went and bought a few other coins instead. But with a bit of OT this month I went out and got this beauty!! That gives me 2 out of 3 of the 20th Anniversary SAEs that I have at the 70 grade. All I need is the MS to complete one of the

Used To Be In The Registry

Wasn't that big a deal to me I was in the registry a few years ago, and I was 1st place with a few sets a few times. Nothing high dollar, but it just didn't do to me what it does to some of you guys and gals. I know it couldn't be because I need expensive coins. It may be that I place more emphasis on the value of the coins when I retire in the next 5 years. I collect proof sets, and have done well on that investment. More power to you folks who really get passionate about the registry sets. I

My congrats also

To all those who recieved an award this year..congratulations To all awardees this year, may I add my congratulations on efforts well done. Although I didn't come in for first places in some of the sets I was hoping to, I congratulate those who did. Especially John (namvette68) your participation has made the hunt for the New Zealand coins especially enjoyable. But I have to warn you, it ain't over till the fat lady sings,or in this case the fat man. Thanks NGC for giving us a place to dis

Got awards today

I have to buy allot of frames! Hi CS, Just got my top ranked set awards in the mail today. I have 25 #1 sets! Now I need to stop buying coins and save for frames! ! I would like to extend my appreciation for all those #1 sets in the registry. We all know how much work goes into getting to the top! I have been dedicating my resources to my Roosevelt Dimes PF, 1966-Date. I am currently 16th and soon to be 15th. It has taken me 2 months to get this far. I had a good start with all the Proof

First NCS Submission On Its Way Back

First NCS Submission On Its Way Back So my first NCS coins sent for conservation went extremely well. The way that the two coins looked when I sent them in didn't really give me high hopes. However, once they conserved them and they were graded I was ultimately surprised. My first two Olympic Commemoratives graded at PF69 Ultra Cameo. I was really excited to see this. I can't wait to start sending more coins to be conserved as I can diversify my collection more.
