"HOW DO YOU KNOW"?

If someone is a Dealer or an agent for the dealer? When I first joined the Collectors Society, I wanted to build a Walking Liberty TOP SET! But, when I checked the TOP SET and it belonged to a dealer or one of his salesmen. How could I possibly complete with him, was he using his own dime or the dealers? Then his set was removed from the Registery. Now he's back completing for the TOP again. How do I know, I've received Litature from his company. I decided to build a set I could afford and not

NO ONE IS EVER HAPPY!!

LIFE GOES ON. Hello, I very seldom have anything to offer, but, I feel we have had enough about how to change the journal and the registry. Why can't we enjoy what we have and talk about coins, not politics. I love to hear about someone's great buy or some informative info about whatever. All this other chatter needs to go elsewhere. Enjoy the Collector's Society! Life goes on.

Top "NGC" Proof Ike's

Although NGC won't recognize it. I guess I am crying over spilt milk, but it is afterall my milk. If you look at the top sets in the Proof Ikes, you will see that the top 4 places (actually 5 spots because #4 is tied) all have PCGS coins. As a matter of fact, the top 4 consist SOLELY of coins in PCGS holders. The set just above mine only has 4 NGC coins. The reason for this anomaly is that NGC has only graded 1 proof Ike as Proof 70, EVER... so in order to have the number 1 or 2 slot, you w

A Month in the Waiting

at least it kept my impulse buying in check Well it's official-I finally won another addition to my set of mid-range Walkers. As my collecting has evolved I have become more like my friends LowBudget, Yevrah and Izzysdad...I'm buying fewer and fewer coins but not really spending less annually. What has happened is that I'm more focused on just a few sets and buying only upper/top grade coins. So several weeks ago I saw a couple of nice MS67's that would be auctioned off on Feb. 12th at a Sco

GUILTY!!!

I'm one of them too.......to a point Hi all,     You guys are right. I have said it all along. Dealers can have any set they want. They only have to pay for the 69 and 70 grades in the proofs.....how sweet is that? I give up trying to compete with NGC dealers. I finally went to PCGS for honest grades. I may lose to an NGC set, but my coins are still mine, and I'll put them up against the finest grades in any other slab. Yes, my sets have blue slabs in them now. I used to hate PCGS too.

I Feel For "Walnutto"

Sometimes the playing field just seems so uneven. Reading walnutto's recent journal activated my thinking gland. in some ways he said so much about some of our registry plights. I do feel for this collector, as I somethimes, well, all the time fight the same battle. However, as a past athlete, I have this urge to compete. No, I cannot compete with some of those guys dollar signs, nor could I ever. It would be the same though if all pcgs collector's had all NGC slabbed coins. It's their disposa

A couple new Conder tokens in the set.

Two new Conder tokens from the Doug and Marie McHenry collection auctioned off by Goldbergs. I have two more Conder tokens to add to my Signature Set collection "~18th Century Conder Tokens". These were auctioned off at Goldbergs Pre-Long Beach auction. They come from the Doug and Marie McHenry collection. I also have a third Conder from the auction but I seem to have lost the picture for it so for now here are the 2 being added.

SILVER EAGLE ALL EARLY RELEASES IN QC

Another postal story Friday once again!! My roll of 20 Silver American Eagles resides in quality control, but for how long who knows. I also have a postal story, which I found hard to believe. As I ship a couple of hundred items through the U.S.P.O every month I consider my self very lucky to have as little trouble as I do. I?ve even shipped overseas with no trouble ?Knock on wood!!!!? The city that I live in has a post office that is exactly four miles from the post office in a neighboring

1982 Jefferson PF-70

I wonder. . . . I was looking at our proof sets yesterday, and trying to figure out how much it would cost to slab the remainders of what we have in proof sets. It would be thousands. But I noticed that our 1982 with the chipped plastic has some CLEAN looking coins in them. Our 1992 set is also pristine. I will let you all know if I add another PF-70 to the list when mine go in. But do not fret, this will be months from now.

It was fun while it lasted.

Corporate Money has no place in these personal registries It was fun being No 1 in the Presidential Business Strike set while it lasted. I take pride that I am just a small collector with small resources to be Number 1 for even a year. I only will have NGC slabbed coins in the presidential registry because this is a NGC website. Until PCGS allows NGC coins in their sets, they should be ban from this site as well. I bet over half the awards went to collectors that have over half their collec

82 Jeff PF-70

Fun while it lasted!!! Well, it was fun while it lasted. Got word yesterday my 1982 Jeff nickel, PF-70UC, which was the first ever to grade NGC PF-70UC and was a pop 1 coin for a few weeks, is now a pop 3. Bummer!!!!! I did get to enjoy if for a while, and on the bright side, two more collectors can add this baby to their sets. Always an up side!!!!!!

Helping a young collector get started

The best help doesn't always come from another collector Like most of you, I got my start collecting coins from my dad. He filled Whitman folders as a kid (I envied his Walker Halves!), so he got me started filling my own Whitman folders. Usually, Christmas would bring me a proof and mint set as well. He never spent his spare change. When his piggy bank was full, he'd buy something fun for a couple hundred dollars, like a primitive computer/calculator hybrid. Once I got to pick out dates

Update to burned on Ebay

A really bad attitude! Well I contacted the seller (a Powerseller for what that's worth). He says the burn marks are toning on the slab. Is it me but I thought only coins toned. Well slabs do too now! Thats sure news to me. I wonder if NGC has any input on this. He told me because the coin only sold for $11.50 plus shipping he could'nt be bothered with it.The Numismedia on the coin is $42.50 plus grading fees(He's an NGC authorized vendor too) as he stated. If I want to send it back to him

Burned on Ebay/ Switched Coin in Slab?

Is it just me? I recently purchased this Proof 1954 Roosevelt on Ebay. I was busy when it arrived, so I gave it the once over and put it aside.(Dummy) Upon closer inspection it seems apparent(to me) that the slab was opened and the coin switched and the slab was remelted back together. If you'll notice the cloudy/(obviously melted) area at 6 and 9 o'clock on the obverse shot, there's a smaller melted area at 3 o'clock that does'nt show in the scan. Am I right or am I worrying about nothing

If shipping insured by USPS

Just found this out Since we are talking about the USPS, here is a heads up for those that never encountered this. We all ship items that re ask for delivery confirmation (the Green tag) and we can track that number on-line. Now here is the curve I just leaned. If you ship a coin(s)and you have the delivery conformation (green tag) PLUS the insurance tag (over $200.00 Blue) make sure you get not only the Blue Insurance Tag but the Green Tag as well because if you don't, you CANNOT trac

The Lighter Side of Going Postal

Tales from the Post Office After all the recent post about problems with shipping and receiving coins through the US Post Office and the known mismanagement that plagues it I decided to go down and purchase a 100 rolls of the Forever stamps and place them in my safe. I figure in 10 years if the USPS still exist then stamps will be about $5 each. I could sell mine for $2.50 and make a fortune. Of course I am joking, but it is a thought. Happy Collecting

I Guess We?ve all had our Postal Moments

What I can do to ensure that people have fewer "Postal Moments"! I think we have all had our own ?postal moments? at one time or another, and I am no exception. Some time ago, I bought a Britannia on E-Bay and the parcel arrived at my house in a timely manner. The only problem is it arrived empty! Stamped on the empty packaging was the following, ?received unsealed and received empty?. Whether my parcel was damaged on the post offices? sorting machines or the coin was stolen, I could only conj

This one had a journey before it arrived!

I received it about a month ago. I bought a raw 1929S Lincoln for my Dansco in July of 2007 and it was shipped to me via USPS. After about 3 weeks I contacted the seller to make sure he had shipped it. Long story short, it arrived about a month ago, some 2 1/2 years later. It was still in its origianl shipping package with no damage at all.

GOING FEDEX???

What a ripoff! Hello everyone! I guess you knew my two Lincolns were coming. FedEx is a joke. I had my subscriptions, expressed from the Mint facility (Indianapolis), and it took 13 days. I can walk almost that far in 13 days. The shipment went by my area, and went to MA. It sat there for the weekend. Then it took two days from their terminal to me. Did I get a refund on shipping? What do you think? Did I cancel my subscriptions with the Mint? What do you think? My seven day return

Another Going Postal Perspective

Lost with the snail I just read the handful of "Going Postal" messages & responses. It made me think about one of my coins. If you check out the description of my 1842 large cent (in my Late Dates and All Dates sets) you can read a brief story about my purchase of that coin. What's missing from the story, is about the shipping. I purchased the coin from Heritage via Make an Offer in May of 2005. At the time, it was my most expensive coin. I save all emails associated with purchases. T
