NGC MS67 1960D Large Date Lincoln

Another nice Lincoln Memorial Hi everyone. Well, I was able to sell my first lot of coins from my recent estate find. I was made an fair offer and I accepted it. With part of the profits I purchased this Lincoln Memorial for my registry set. I still have a lot more stuff to go through and of course I will be reinvesting the rest into my registry sets. I will set some aside for when the new Presidential Dollars come out. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

HI Everyone

Missed me? I missed you, seriously Howdy all, Well things are satill crappy $ wise in California HOWEVER things are looking up. I seem to have weathered to storm to the best of my ability and still have salvaged some semblance of a collection. I sold off all my silver bullion and rolls of Silver Eagles, and thousands of coins but still have a few thousand left. It looks like 2010 may be a very exciting year in my household and perhaps I may even be able to add to my collection. I ho

MORGANS

was one of the first coins I started to collect. When I joined the U. S Air Force in 1961. The first place I was sent to after bacis training, was Great Falls, Montana. When we went downtown to purchase something, we always received silver dollars in our change. We didn't like them because they were to heavy to carry around. When I joined the Collectors Society there was a lot of talk about 1878 8TF VAMS. This is my latest addition.

My 1st Coin Purchase of 2010

...and my procrastination of submitting my coins... Greetings and Happy New Year everyone! I have been a bit busy (again) with the new school semester and am finding this quiet moment to finally post here. I made my first coin purchase this year a week ago...well a pre-order actually of an ER 2010 SAE MS 70, cost me about 120 dollars. I am looking forward to seeing it next month sometime. Any new coins I buy (new as in the year of release) will only be MS 70's I have decided. I am

I realy need some time to redo pictures

A new shot of an old coin Friends, Well being a carpenter my hands have the ware of an old tree and the size of a Mack truck compared to this tiny camera. I really need a tripod but most of all I need to get good with inside lighting. My camera skills are by far great but efficient for me. I do have a shot of my 1921-D that was not taken by me and is the reason I know I need to get better with my photography. This shot is for Dan to right click and save to background if it loads here. FEELING THE NEED FOR AN "INTERVENTION"...

or not... When I am walking around with this stuff, I "steer clear" of all bodies of water! Greetings Collectors and/or Hoarders, I am finding it difficult to "have a life" now that ebay has me by the short hairs. Between selling & buying & shipping & listing and an occasional halfway decents night sleep, I am finding it hard to find the hours I need in an average day. I did stop long enough to check my 16-coin submission status and damn, it's been shipped. I found it most pa

Coin collecting, a gage to the state of the Economy ?

Buying coins today is definately different than even 3 months ago. There has been alot of talk about the economy. Well, is that an understatement, or what? After competing for mid range priced coins on heritage, teletrade, ebay, as well as auctions held here in Canada, I must give my own personal review. To start with, those who don't know me, or what I collect, let me introduce myself, relating to what I collect. I collect, Canadian coins primarily. Right now concentrating on PL coins. Wh

I Hate That Darn 10X Loop

But not as much as I hate my failing eye sight! I guess I chalk this one up to inexperience and a learning lesson. When I got the 1981 S proof set in the mail, I got very excited. My eyes and magnifying glass had me convinced I had picked up a Type II set. Well, last night I was looking at the set more closely with a 10X loop and it became very obvious that the set was Type I. That made the decision to crack the set because the coins were not mounted properly and rubbing on the plastic case a

A nice estate find

Small hoard of coins Hi everyone, for those of you that know me you know I mainly collect Lincoln Cents for my registry collections. I am a disable veteran, so yes funds are always a concern when looking for new additions. I go to a lot of estate sales here in Florida looking for coins, autographs and collectibles and every once in a while you find a surprise. I went to a sale not too long ago and notice a collections of coins and currency. I briefly glanced over the items since I did not

The Road Trip is Out

The ASEs were all MS69 Friends, I finally got in touch with the sellers of that set of ASEs for sale I was going to drive 50 miles to purchase. The whole set was MS69 but I don't think they had the 2008W rev of 07s. The conversation went on a while and I invited them to check out our society and told them they could not get so much information for free anywhere else. So I didn't score any new coins but maybe a couple new members. HAPPY COIN COLLECTING

1st Submitted Coins Received

1st Submitted Coins Received So I finally received the first five coins that I submitted to the NGC for grading. I am highly satisfied with the results of the grading, even though only two out of the five were a perfect 70. You have to figure they all can't be perfect, however the other 3 coins that I submitted were graded at 69 which was good to hear. I just added them to my collection so anyone can check them out. I'll be putting out another journal with my most recently sent coins to b

Home Safe's vs. Safety Deposit Box

Which is the preferred I have been back and forth on where to "store" my collections. Each has its advantages such as a home safe has the conveinence of easy access, they also afford some "Fire Resistance" and is just a one time cost. Whereas a banks safety deposit box is really secure and the risk of fire is almost nill, and a recurring yearly charge. But today I think I have made up my mind after talking to a specialist in the security field. He explained that if you have diamonds and

A rare find

Platinum denomination coins In 1997, I was introduced to platinum coins on tv. I saw mintages were low and prices were high. As the years went, so was my interest. I wanted to invest in something unique. I recently acquired a platinum 1 oz eagle. It turned out to be a 2009 early release- West Point mint mark and proof 70. This is now the corner stone of my collection. Simply jaw dropping.

Catching up

Things couldn't be better or could they??? Dear Journal: Quite a few things have happened since last I wrote. My best purchase of the New Year to date came last night in the form of a 1902s Cornet head w/motto ? eagle PCGS MS62. I won it in an eBay auction. That I am an auction junkie I would have to admit, I have placed bids on three other ? eagles in the Sunday Teletrade Auction with the hopes of winning at least one of them. All the ones that I have and am bidding on are S mints, I have alw

May be my first coin purchase of the year

Graded-ANA-PNG? Friends, I have been e-mailing someone on a full set of ASE's graded by NGC. I did ask the grades and was told they were ANA & PNG (go figure). I will meet them tomarrow to see what they are graded at and if they are 70's they will be my first purchase this year. It will be nice to have some coins besides Morgans in my safe to admire. Competition between two anonymous dominican collectors

It all started as a joke, lets start including our coins in the NGC Census. Myself and Mr. Rudman, old numismatics friends, but have been in the shadow for the past 30 years did a bet, of a dinner, which collection of ours by December 31, 2009 was going to be closer to #1. Although most of our coins , NGC does not have the countries still as registered sets , we are really proud that Mr. rudman ended in #25 and myself (fernnado Baez) in #32, not bad for two rookies. This really help us out to

NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO? - - - - - - - - - - NOT!!!

Check out the difference Hello everyone, I just checked out a set of 2009 Lincoln cents from NGC in PF69. I bought them from a dealer for less than $40.00. I just looked at them in our relatively rare sunlight. YUK! My last post has a scan, through the OGP, of a Canadian coin that is flawless. Flawless at 200X, that is. I am sending it in to be graded. I may send the spare to NGC. If they can do a 69 for a few severely die clashed, plated pot metal, US pennies, I guess a 70 for a silve

Quandry of Quandries

My inexperience is showing again. Hot Dog!!! I picked up a 10x loop today. Wow! the things you can see on a coin. There in lies my problem. I have a a 1981 TII Ultra Cameo Proof set so naturally I wanted to take a good look at it since I have ideas of sending it in to be graded. As it tuns out, the coins are not mounted properly in the holder and the edges of the coins have been rubbing on the inside of the plastic case. Do I crack the case, remove the debris from the coins and put each coi
