Greetings 2010

Coming down the home stretch Greetings all; Well, I have added a couple of SMS to my Kennedy Collection which leaves me 5 more coins to go to complete the set. I have really tried hard to not only get this set going but to break into the "TOP 50" before years end 2009(yes I made it) I still have one or two that I am eyeing right now but my New Years resolution is to complete the Kennedy's this year. Good luck to everyone on their acquisitions. moondoggy

Reflections

Reviewing my journal entries of the past year showing how far I have come. Early this morning with everyone else quietly asleep, I took time to read many of my journal posts of the past year and reflect. January 1 is a good time for reflection, because it is the end of one year and the beginning of the next. For those of you contemplating journaling in 2010, journals are a wonderful way to chronicle your collecting journey. In them, you store your thoughts, feelings, accomplishments, and impre

A Shiny New Year

A reflection of the year gone but not forgotten and a look toward the future In my house there is rarely a quiet moment. Chaos seems to have taken up permanent residency but my wife and I seem to thrive on it. I find my quiet and reflective time early in the morning, like now. So this morning I find myself looking back on 2009 and looking forward to 2010. I don?t make New Year?s resolutions. Things will change as they must in the natural order of time. (There is a line to a song I find quite a

New Year, New Decade

I'm in a refective mood again.... I just jumped online quickly to check my emails, and thought I'd post some rambling thoughts here. The kids are asleep, the champange is in the fridge, and it's about an hour before the ball drops in Times Square. This has been a hard year in a lot of ways, but I always tell myself, "It could always be worse." I have two wonderful kids, a wonderful family, I have my health, and so many people have so many problems, that I really have nothing to complain abou

Why I can only afford 1 addiction at a time. Being a very opinionated person, I just love giving other people advice. If you haven't read WKF's latest entry yet, you should, it's a real hoot. My advice to WKF is he needs a bigger safe! Although I don't share his passion for raw precious metals, I can certainly see the attraction. Having silver or gold ingots is pretty cool. Living in Nevada, I am especially fond of the 3 oz. Nevada bar with the shape of my state embossed in it. I am fi

"The Lure of Pure 999-Fine Silver... & gold...

Merry Christmas from me to me... Greetings Collectors, This is journal entry number 90 for this calender year. And it will be my last for this year. As in my coin collection, which is "all over the place", so has been my topics for the year. I know I have made several of you pissed on more than one occasion. But to those in that camp, please try to realize that anything I say is just one persons opinion and like a-holes everybody has one. There are only a very few that can lay claim to not o

"SELLING OUT"........A Sad Day Indeed.....

Turning over a "new leaf" for the new year... Greetings Collectors, It is again that time of year when some of us decide to start something OR stop something. This time of change runs the gamet of all kinds of things. My large change is to give up the nasty habit of cigars. I quit smoking cigg's about ten years ago but have grown to enjoy a good cigar while sitting on my rear deck, usually with a good numismatic book or newspaper. Coming from a family of lawyers and having a daughter in her

and changed one of my sets Hi everybody On my last journal entry I mentioned about starting to collect modern comms in MS. Well, I backed up that statement with a small purchase and I received it this morning in the mail. One very nice 2008 Bald Eagle 50c. I didn't expect it this quickly...quite the surprise seeing the package in the mailbox today. This also the first time that I couldn't register a coin because the previous owner has not released/removed it from their registry. The CC st

Grading

Everything has fees Like Amarillo I'm now experiencing the grading fees. I've collected a bunch of coins and have some complete sets but now it's time to pay the piper to get them graded and see if they stack up to some of the rest I've seen in the registry.

A Conscious Decision!

Or maybe it was unconscious. After scouring the various auctions and market places for Eisenhower Dollars to populate my graded collection, I have decided that my first submission for grading will be my Proof Ikes. I have several still in their original government packaging. I will attempt to determine which of those are the best Ikes in my collection and where necessary pick up a few more proof sets to improve my odds. I looked at the population report and realized the odds are slim to none o

Happy New Year!!

I am feeling this will be the best coin year ever... Greetings!! I hope all of you are well. I am gearing up for a great new years eve celebration at home. The adult beverages have been stocked up and the calendars are ripe for burning in my bonfire (my new years eve ritual) as well as rice paper has been acquired to write the frailties of my character on to burn in the bonfire as well. Also, my Collectors Society membership package arrived a few days ago, and I have to make a decisi

I picked a good day , " Window Shopping"...

Each Jefferson I seen, looked, Fresh out of the Mint! Last month, I decided to get out of the house, an told my wife, I wanted to go Downtown, an' do some window shopping. Well, I went into a Antique Store, to see if they had any coins or "Jefferson nickels" in there. I was looking at a Display Case of WW II Jeff/Nickels, and the owner just happened to come by, an'wanted to know, if there was anything he could do to help? I mentioned, that I'm into collecting Jefferson nickels, an just came

Absolutely Stunning!!!!!!!

See if you agree with me on this one! For much of my collecting life my focus has been on coinage issues of the 19th century. I so loved the various renditions of Liberty on 19th century coins that I often neglected those of the 20th century. That was until I started a 20th century typeset in the registry last summer. This is when I discovered anew the artistry, beauty, and symbolism of the ?American Renaissance coins? issued early in the century. Indeed, there are no coins like them anywhere,

Coin Construction Project

way too much stuff Well this morning I embarked on a project that was way overdue. I went to the hardware store and bought a few 2" lag bolts, and a 1/2" steel bit to bolt my safe to the floor. I know that I've been acting on faith that my safe wouldn't be stolen. Although it weighs a lot and wouldn't be able to be picked up by a single individual and carried out of my home-- a properly prepared team of thieves could have done it together with a dolly. So I opened it up ( the bolts go thro

Seasons Greetings to all

Back from the Caribbean reluctantly. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and looking forward to the New Year. Has anyone watched the tv show Pawn Stars on (I believe the History channel) I watched an episode awhile back(rerun) where they were handling Morgan's from Carson City. I about blew a fuse the way they were tossing them around. (talk about bag marks) I swear they devalued those CC's to with their dumping them out of a bag on a desk on top of one another. Unbelievable !!!! And

Birthdays for our Children

With our children in mind, we sometimes try to set up collections. I know that I have done my journals about my children so far, and this one is no exception. Well, when I turned 50, I realized that 2/3rds of my life was over, and I have to leave my children something other than bills. My father didn't include me in his coin collecting life, and I don't want to do that to my children. With our children in mind, we sometimes try to set up collections. Some are small, and some are large, but m

A Nice Surprise The Day After Christmas

Half a troy pound of silver and some plastic As I was approaching graduation day earlier in this month, another collector's society member was nice enough to offer me an MS69 kookaburra for my collection as a graduation present and even offered me my choice from the years he had available. He had several MS69s left over after upgrading his set to MS70s. I decided to take things one step further and offered to buy the others from him. It would allow him to get rid of some extras and allow me to
