"I broke my promise"... Oh well, only kinda sorta...

I knew it would be difficult, if not impossible... Greetings Collectors, Several days ago I made a promise in a post that I would refrain from further purchases (coins) 'til I was ready to post a pic along with the announcment of a coin purchase. Short Set of Walkers

What got me started on the Short Set of Walkers........ I attended a coin show where I saw a complete short set of Walkers all PCGS, all MS65 and all of them were in the Old Green Holders (OGH). It was a nice collection and so I decided to put one together myself. It took me about nine months ( and some luck ) and I was finally able to put my own set together with all old green holders in MS65. I have since picked up additional Walkers in NGC holders as well and in higher grades. It helps

BUY A CHEAP SCANNER!

In my opinion,it's the best for less. Hi all! If I wasn't on W.K.F's iggy list I could offer an option. A few of us, on limited budgets, had the same imaging problems. I personally bought a Epson, Perfection V300 Photo, scanner. I got it(new)on eBay for $74.49 shipping included. It isn't like a pro's studio camera, but I am happy with it. Installation is a snap and it will take some shots a Hasselblad never thought of. Another Society member has a Canon he got at a garage sale for $3.

A Trip to the Casino, lack of coins????

Things are different now.... Greetings everyone! Yesterday I took a 2 hour bus trip from Salt Lake City to Wendover, Nevada to see the Alice Cooper show at a concert hall there, and to gamble and eat a buffet at the casino. I was excited to go for many reasons, which is more suitable for a blog than a journal entry here, but one of the aspects that excited me was the idea that maybe while playing slots, I would encounter an old nickel, or a pre-1964 quarter, but things have changed.

Hey Hey I made it finally

Top 50 and early to boot Well I'm a pretty happy camper today. As many of you know my goal was to make it in the Top 50 collection with my Kennedy's before year's end. Today I was fortunate enough to climb to 47 with the addition of one of the years I had been searching for sometime. The 1970 PF69UC. Getting back to my roots and remembering why it is I collect coins. Totally agree with the no proof eagles. Also, sov images uploaded.. Maybe I will abort collecting proof silver eagles at all. I only have 2007 2008 in PF70, and 2000-2003 PF69 Why bother. The US Mint has made its worst decision ever. Mint 50,000 of them instead and put them up one or two per person ! look at the 1995-W for crying out loud With all the economic problems, I agree melt 50,000 of the Braille's ! what a joke. Lincoln Bicentennial Set

Wow, tough to get a order in! I noticed on the US Mint web site that they have acknowledged that their servers were unprepared for the demand in processing orders. I was there trying to order a set at noon. It took me 2 hours to finally get my order through. I feel fortunate to have gotten a set. I'm wondering whether NGC will have a special set designation for these sets (similar to the 20th Anniversary Eagles). If so I plan to send in my set unopened and cross my fingers for the best.

How I Save (?) Money!!

You have to spend to save, right? I bought in excess of $5,000 buying coins on eBay in the last three months (not bragging or complaining). So I had a $110 of eBay Bucks to spend. Picked up this little near-gem (1876 25c MS 64) because I bought it on 'sale', $110 off my offer price. What a steal! I'm not sure who stole from who but I got a nice coin for a nice price. Anyhow, you get the picture, spend $5k so you can spend another $1,000 to save $110. On another subject, I have to agree

Good Lighting and Cameras are only part of the Equation!

Good editing between photographing your coins and posting your coins is an important part of the process. With a fair degree of frequency, I have noticed a number of journal posts on the subject of coin photography. Most of the posts I have read seem to focus on lighting and cameras. A Shallow "nitwit" and a US Mint fiasco...

Just keep trying and trying some day you might be able get your order in Today was such a train wreck. I tried to order the new limited to 50,000 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Sets. I am sorry to say things have not gotten much better with this vender than the last one. It took over 2 1/2 hours to get my order in. Why, why I ask. Proof Coinage from 1950-1970...Part Two...

Scary cossovers for the Halloween season. Part 10

These coins putting on new costumes. I hope. Wow, for me this is more scary than seeing "Paranormal Activity". The five slab below have been sent in to NGC for crossover. In the past I was doing the break out routine but I didn't want to take a chance for low grades on these five slabs. I did give NGC the option of giving the 1805 1p a PF-62 as it is a little beatup.
