All ABOARD!!!!

The Fourth Engine in the series This is the fourth train engine in this series, but it is a diesel. Canada has a great train history of transportation. The last train I rode was pulled by a diesel, our own Heber Valley Railroad in Heber City, Utah.

Funky President's !!!

I can't wait for John Adams to show his face. A few weeks ago I kind of Poo Poo'd the fact that the President's would not be very fun to collect, and that since it is a modern coin and they make so many of them they will never be worth the Mish Mash of Metal that they are struck on. Since a little time has gone by and since I bought a couple of the First Day of Issue Washington's I'm now very excited and can't wait for the John Adams to come out. I have met a couple more people within the hobb

A QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO MAY KNOW

1945 MICRO S MERCURY DIMES I CANNOT SEEM TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGULAR 1945S MERC DIME, AND A MICRO S VERSION. I HAVE LOOKED AT ALOT OF PICS OF BOTH, AND THEY LOOK THE SAME TO ME. CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME HOW TO TELL THE DIFF? I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE 'S' IS SMALLER ON A MICRO, BUT I HAVE SEEN NGC GRADED ONES, AND THEY LOOK LIKE THE REGULAR S TO ME. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT THE MICRO S'S HAVE TWO 'S' MINT MARKS. HAVENT SEEN AN EXAMPLE YET. HELP, PLEASE.

Toot! Toot! Train Time

I hope this one is labeled correctly! Jackson informed me when my last train left the Station it had the wrong sign(I wondered how they got a Buggy out of a steam engine?) and went to the wrong track in the Registry! I contacted NGC and they are going to correct the problem and put the train on the correct track! I was thinking which is my second favorite train? It should be one that I've ridden and will ride again. At this time it has to be at the happiest place on earth! The Disneyland

A visit to the Baltimore-Washington Coin Show

NGC disappointed me by being absent I live in Central Delaware, which is not exactly the hub of civilization, but it is within 2 hours drive of Baltimore, so when I saw that NGC was going to be onsite at the Baltimore Convention Center for the Baltimore-Washington Coin Show Mar 23-Mar 25, I packed up my family for a day in the city. The weather was gorgeous, so I knew that my wife and daughters would find plenty to do downtown at the Inner Harbor while I spent time at the Show, looking for b

2006-W SILVER EAGLE

Ijust saw an eBay ad for a 2006-W silver Eagle SGS MS70. Besides being graded by SGS there was one catch...anyone want to guess? That's right it was an SGS MS70 2006-W Silver Eagle.....without the W mint mark. Did they make one like that? I thought if a coin was missing a mint mark it was a P. Am I wrong, or is SGS THAT BAD? I know the mint has 2006-p silver eagles with no mint mark. They have 2006-p with mint mark (the reverse proof)and 2006-W with the mint mark both in the 20th anny an

10 out of 15

I must be getting better at choosing which coins to submit! 2 $5 ms70 jamestowns, 1 $5 pf70uc congress, 7 $1 ms70 jamestowns, 3 ms69 jamestowns, 1 $1 pf69uc library of congress, 1 $1 pf69uc congress. The best part is I predicted the exact grades when I sent them! I knew at least 3 jamestowns (maybe 4)would be 69's and knew both the silver congress were probably not 70's (although I did hope they might be I put them down as 69). My new method of "self grading" seems to be working! I am sure

Coin Collections

My first real time coin collecting start in March of 2007 I didn't no I was collecting coins as a hobby until I saw a programs about the American Silver Eagle on TV on March 12, 2007. I had planned to buy some new tires and chrome rims for my Jeep sometime this year. But, when I saw this program I said to myself investing in a collection of MS 69 American Silver Eagles would be a better investment instead of some new tires and chrome rims for my 1989 Jeep. Even though, I have many of old c

Many thanks to NGC

If it weren't for them, where would we be now! Joining NGC and the Collectors' Society has been very rewarding for me. It has given me the opportunity to discuss coin-collecting with many knowledgeable individuals. The staff at NGC has always been first-rate and professional in their dealings with us, the members of the Collectors' Society. I have a great deal of respect for NGC because we are permitted to express our views on the Chat Boards without intervention. For me, it gives me the fe

My first submission. I can't wait for the results

I feel like I'm Seven years old again, waiting for my Sea Monkeys to arrive in the mail. Carefully, I read and re-read the instructions on the NGC Invoice Form, making sure that I knew exactly what I had to do. It wasn't as complicated as instructions for a gas Barbecue Grill, but it was close... :-) I carefully filled out the form (still made mistakes that I had to correct), and assembled my first 5 coins that I'd submitted for grading: an 1833 Large Cent that is an extremely well-struck ex

Dollars per Point

How much do you pay for NGC Registry Points? I am relatively new to registry sets, but I think it is fun. I collect mostly jefferson nickels because that is what I can afford. I wanted to share the criteria I use to determine if a coin is a good deal with regard to adding it to my registry set. The rule of thumb I use is spend no more than $1.00/registry point. For example, almost every late Jefferson proof is either worth 3 registry points (for all grades through PR69UC) or 102 points

Trash or Treasure

Will the new Presidential Dollars have a chance? ?The long line of monstrosities issued from the United States Mint, certainly received its crown in the new dollar. The ugliness of the piece adds another wrong to the original one of dishonesty: To ask the European bondholder to take this! ?? This was the opinion of the editor of the American Journal of Numismatics that was printed in April 1878. His opinion was given right after an article on the views and detailed description of the new Morga

Die Varieties - A Whole New World

...and what a wonderful world it is!! I dont know exactly what possessed me to buy the new Cherrypickers Guide a couple of months ago. After I bought it, I set it up on the shelf with my other numismatic tomes to collect dust. A couple of weeks ago, out of sheer boredome and lack of anything to do, and no money to spend (on coins anyway...darn kids wanted to eat that week) I decided to start reading my Cherrypickers Guide. WOW!!! What a rush !! After reading for a bit, I decided to start e
