FIVE COINS TO NGC

FIVE COINS BACK FROM NGC I gave my order to the Post Office on 16 April 2007. NGC received my order on 18 April 2007. NGC gave my completed order to the USPS on 27 April 2007. NGC sent me an E-Mail on 27 April 2007, said my order on been shipped. I receive my order from the Mailman, today 2 May 2007. I asked why so long to receive it? He said must not have been priorty! It is marked PRIORTY! So my way of thinking is, NGC has done their job well, someone else needs to pickup their e

I agree Grading can be imperfect.

Upgrades I have had the same experiance as Jackson on several occasions. The last upgrade I tried was about a year ago. I had a 1802 Bust Dollar graded by Anacs as AU50. I first sent it into PCGS for an upgrade and it came back in same holder. I decided to crack it out and send it to NGC. It came back as cleaned. I ended up sendind it back to PCGS and to my final dismay it came back XF45. Point being I should have stayed with the AU50 Anacs.

Imperfect Art of Grading

beauty is in the eye of the beholder? I'm sure that most serious collectors realize that grading is an imperfect science, the system of using multiple graders and taking the average is probably as effective as it can get. Grading standards have changed over time--a PCGS coin in an old rattler or green label usually has a much higher chance at an upgrade than other coins. Well my journal is supposed to be about my collecting experience..the bad as well as the good. My luck has been down late

Recent purchase back from NGC

As I have stated in a previous post I am very much into Betts medals right now. I am working on a Signiture set of Betts medals. I have a Betts-382 in copper and have been looking for one in silver. It is believed that these silver medals were avalible to midshipmen who participatede in the naval battle of Cape Finisterre in 1747 which was part of the War of the Austrian Succession. I recently found a very atractive example and am very excited to show it. It was graded as AU-58, which I was ho

DON'T TELL!

Make mistakes, learn from them, move on! During my short period of life, I've made a lot of mistakes. You just need to learn from them, don't tell everyone, and move on. While collecting coins, my BIGGEST mistake is getting caught up on the TV sales pitch, and over paying for the coin! I've learned, and don't buy from TV anymore! EBay, dealers and other collecters and the U.S. Mint is my main source now! Still you have to be careful and research. Recently, I've stuck my toes over the bor

I Agree

Crooks are everywhere I was also somewhat ofended about the 'China' insults, but then again, some people have the luck and grace of always seeing past the wool attemting to be placed there when it comes to knowing how not to get taken. I usually treat people the way I expect to be treated also. If someone says a coin is genuine, or a ring is real gold, then if the seller is lying or attempting to deceive, then it is the seller who should be chastised. I am surprised that EBay allows these croo

China!

For many of us, purchasing coins from China has little to do with anything other than the desire to obtain a needed coin for our collections. The thought that buying from a foreign country somehow puts the buyer in a "DESERVE WHAT YOU GET" category is not only ludicrous, it's arrogant and insulting. When it comes to swindlers and cheats, the good old USA has more than its fair share. We have all been taken advantage of at one time or another. All of us except of course the pompous "KNOW IT ALL

The Thrill of Victory

My final Sllver Eagle Finally!! After months of bidding and losing, saving, hoping, shopping, looking, and frustration, I finally own my very own 1995 W PF American Silver Eagle. I was lucky enough to win the entire 5 coin 10th anniversary set for what the Silver Eagle set is worth. I'm sending them into NGC to grade, and hopefully they'll grade well. They look good to me, but I'm very partial, of course. This a good day!!. I'm going to have a cigar!! Alright, I'm finished crowing. Th

Ngc needs to correct the scores for a no S roosevelt dime

Rare and Expensive Score correction is needed for roosevelt dimes proof catagory. The no S dimes are very scarce and rare. Why should you have a 3 legged buffalo and it is 60 times more common than a proof no S dime.It is an error coin and not many exist. You are going to pay 10 times more for a no S than a regulal proof dime of that same year. You also give more points for a type 2 coin, this is a lot more rarer than a type 2 coin. You really need to reconsider how many points it should have. You

Better submit soon

Proof Sets are Coming If I were going to submit some coins for grading at Economy, I would submit them sooner rather than later. I see a trend of when the US Mint releases products, the grading services get bogged down grading mass quantities from the cable networks' TV sales. This is probably what is going on now with the 2007 silver eagles. The Mint is releasing the 2007 proof sets in May and that will be another load of coins to grade. My guess is that if someone submits 1000 proof sets

Yeah... we're running a little behind.

Still waiting for a green flag to get the coins out of pit road. Once again I call NGC and "yeah, we're a little behind." The lady looked at the system, aka checking with the computer Gods. Yes, we are running about 12 days in world value... hmm, the coins have been there 15 days so far. Well the long and short of it, she will see if she can move the coins along. Makes me wonder, they can get all these new fangled, 1st day, last day, special strike, any strike new type coins done and to th

Coins From China?

I agree! Why would you go to China to get coins or order from China? We have thousands of coin dealers here and millions of others who would sell you coins. Heck, I even have a couple I would sell. Meanwhile, I would like you to see the newest baby to my family of coins. She just arrived today! [attachment=:name]

I'm still waiting on NGC also

I am a patient guy, -- Bruce wrote about his waiting since 4/3. Mine have been in receiving since 4/6. I finally used my coupon for 5 free submissions to send in a 1921P Merc dime, a 1934 merc dime error (cracked die), a 1913 dime, a 1851 Large cent (I think should grade EF40 or better)and an 1883 no cents V nickel. These are in receiving now also. But they are in the early bird tier. It would be a hoot if those coins came back before my 1947 P.D.S mint sets. But anyway Bruce, I feel your pain

REVERSE "BOX OF 20"

For me, a workable "twist" to a theoretical collecting concept. The "Box of 20" is a quality approach to collecting which is achieved and reinforced by limiting the collection size to 20 coins (or any limiting number that the collector chooses). Any additional coins may be added to the collection only by elimination of a previous "place-holder". I've observed a number of "chat room debates" re. the pros and cons of the concept, but never gave it much serious thought- that is, until my rece

Stuck in Economy Purgatory

If you're not the lead dog, the view doesn't change much Sigh... I guess I must've picked a bad time of year to forward coins in for Submission. I've had coins sitting in a RECEIVED status since 4/3. Since I've mailed the coins, I've watched the Estimated Turnaround for Economy move from 21 working days to 29 days, and then now to 30. I'm not complaining about the level of service from NGC. Far from it. They have been really great people to deal with, and I have nothing but praise for all

Registry Coins Scoring

The NGC Chrystal ball needs updating. I think it is about time that we all band together and ask/insist that NGC update its registry scoring system and coin pricing. I must admit that I only deal in cents - Large, Indian and Lincoln - but when I look at the registry values of recent coins (2000 - 2006) and see that the registry values were assigned on 1-1-2000 I have a real problem. I don't know what chrystal ball they looked at 6 years ago and determined how to rate/value coins this far in th

Coins from China Part II

Absolutely correct, Dean... :-) While trying to cry "foul" against purveyors of counterfeit coins, I am guilty of omitting those people who may have purchased a high-end coin singly, only to find out later that it was counterfeit. I actually thought about that the moment I posted my previous entry, and it's a shame that my omission didn't dawn on me when I was writing it, because I'm sure that the vast bulk of people who have purchased counterfeit coins in the past fall into this very category

couple of factors to think about Bruce

normally reconized as three factors to a crime they are intent, motive, and ability or the where with all to commit...not having knowledge that your action is a crime is no defense, but can go towards a no intent defense...but proving that a person has knowledge that the coins they are selling are counterfeit, might be hard to do. thus no intent. then there is the cost of a trial and the associated matters. that is probably why we don't see a lot of prosecutions dean

Why would anybody buy coins from China?

To make a profit, of course... First off, I'm making a lot of assumptions here, as I have never seen a listing on eBay for US Coins that were coming from China, so I may not know what I'm talking about... :-) However, I have a sneaking suspicion that I am on target with what I'm about to write. Firstly, I would venture to guess that these listings on eBay from Chinese sellers allow for purchases of multiple coins in one transaction. If that is the case, then the answer as to why someone woul

Well, I got ripped off

DONT BUY GOLD RINGS FROM CHINA I RECENTLY PURCHASED 2 RINGS FROM 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN ebAY, AND BOTH WENT TO THE JEWELER TODAY. THEY ARE NOT GOLD, AND THE STONES ARE FAKE ALSO. BOTH ADS SAY THAT THE RINGS ARE SOLID GOLD, AND THAT THE STONES ARE GENUINE. THEY CHARGE $10.00 TO $12.00 FOR SHIPPING, AND WILL TAKE RETURNS. BUT THEY STIFF YOU ON THE POSTAGE, NO REFUND ON THAT. SO FOR A $5.00 RING, THEY MADE A PROFIT, EVEN IF YOU RETURN IT. I WILL TRY TO POST A PIC OF EACH RING, ONE HERE, AND THE OT

I Run When I See China on eBay Auctions I avoid like the plague!

I try to avoid Chinese made products of all varieties! Being a fairly political person, I avoid Chinese made products as much as possible. So no Wal-mart shopping! My first experience with Chinese products was a Morgan CC dollar listed on eBay at an "attractive" price, When I was researching the coin I discovered that the date they were selling was never made at the CC mint in that year. I avoided a loss by research. So now, I avoid anything that says China!

THE OTHER RING

THIS IS THE OTHER RING. IT IS STAMPED 14K, BUT IT IS BRASS, LIKE THE OTHER ONE. THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE SELLING RINGS LIKE THIS, SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW THE SCREEN NAME OF THESE PEOPLE, EMAIL ME. BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM TO LIST.THEY ARE IN THE JEWELRY SECTION, UNDER BIRTHSTONES. THAT IS WHERE I FOUND THEM. I AM COMPLAINING TO EBAY, BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN.
