Submiting my first batch of coins to NGC

Submitting 5 First Day of Iusse - Washington, and 10 Adams Dollars. Ill be sending out 5 Washingtons First Day of Mintage Coin Cover, and As Soon as I get my John Adams First Day of Mintage Coin Cover, they'll Be sent out too. I think I have some very nice Washington Coin worthy of MS66s so I cant wait. Never know I may even get a MS67, or 68. :-D (we all can dream). I think next the 20th Anni Eagles, these coins have gotten a great return for the buck.

Finally!!!

I sent a submission of seven coins to NCS around the first week of last month. Finally it has gotten to quality control at NGC! It still has to go back to NCS before it can be shipped back to me but I'm in the Home Stretch! Two of the coins were for a details grade and variety attribution. One of those was that 1819 quarter with the repunched denomination that I had a post on earlier. The other five coins were for conservation and then grading by NGC. So far it looks like all went well. Hope

Re: Cleaned or Not Cleaned?

I've read some excellent ideas that have been written in these journals about this subject. Here's my two cents worth. Coin Chemistry is a great book and should be in everyone's library. Keeping your coins that didn't make it is also a very good idea. I wish I had kept all of my coins that were BB'd. I would have a very nice collection of tampered coins by now. I have about 150+ coins that have been slabbed and I would guesstimate that I've had about 10 to 15% of the total coins that I hav

On the cleaning subject

I found a fool-proof way The only way I have found now to avoid buying cleaned raw coins, is to buy certified, proof, or original mint packaged coins; (bank & government rolls also good) Otherwise, just rolling the dice. I have my list of people not to trust buying raw, and it is getting too large. I shudder to think what percentage of my 3 almost complete sets of Merc Dimes have been cleaned. (of course I bought certified on the 1916-D's, 1921 & 21-D's, and 1942/41's). The rest are r

My 1999 Proofs

Miracles can happen I just checked on the status of my NGC submissions, and my 1999 Clad Proof Set just hit the road for my house. They all graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo. Not bad, huh? Not 70's, but I feel very good about 69's. Also, do not mean to change the subject, but is it just me, or can you hear crickets in the journal section lately? Not many posts, or as many as usual. Is it cleaned? Only your hairdresser knows for sure...

Maybe we could learn ourselves... Nothing is worse than buying a coin online only to find out that it has been cleaned, and at that point, there is almost nothing you can do about it. So... what can be done you ask? (You DID ask, right?) Learn to tell yourself, wether a coin has been cleaned or not. There are a number of books on the market that go into great detail about coins that have been cleaned. Buy or borrow a book or three and learn for yourself about cleaned coins. With knowle

RE: Cleaned or Not Cleaned?

It is big dilema I have some problems in the past with same problem so I will get some points. 1) NGC or PCGS do not grade cleaned or dipped coins ANACS will do prograde usually 2 grades lower 2) Recently I discover toning on my coin that looks like dipped coin I am send it to Apperance review. 3) Cleaned coins are usually do not have nay luster (some dipped coins have thanks for this information to BankNote1) or they are usually to nice for the grade XF VF coins. 4) Polished coins wi

Cleaned or Not Cleaned?

How does one tell? I've had several coins, mostly Morgans and Peace dollars, 1 $2.5 gold coin and 2 Washington quarters (1932 D and S) returned to me ungraded, from NGC with the disqualifer of "improperly cleaned". I did not clean these coins, so how does someone know when a coin has been cleaned? This has been a very frustrating experience, and is discouraging me from buying any older coins. My number of improperly cleaned coins is approaching 10-12, and is starting to cost me in wasted ti

My long awaited nickel

A 'Walker' turned into a 'Jefferson'. My NGC graded 1947-D Jefferson Nickel, has finally shed its previous skin that stated it was a .50c , rather than a .05c. I guess it shows that NGC is only human. I thought it odd that one of my first submissions to them came back with that error, but just as well me, as any one of you, right? And waiting on my newly-won (FINALLY!) 1947-D Roosevelt Dime MS 66. Graded by PCGS, so maybe if I submit this one to NGC, I may squeeze a 67, or 68 out of it? PCGS i

If At First You Don't Succeed..

sometimes patience is forced upon you.. Several times over the past year I have seen a coin at auction that I REALLY wanted. I'm sure many of you can relate. For me it is usually a coin that fits my signature set of ship coins. I usually was not even aware of the coins existence, but once I see it at auction-whether from the big auction houses or even ebay- I become enamored. I can already picture how great it's going to look in my set. However, it doesn't always work out. Most of the time

1858-D $1 Gold Piece--What A Wonderful Experience ...Continued

This is another one of my friends coins.   And for those of you who don't know... The South had a total of three mints before the beginning of the Civil War.They were New Orleans, Louisiana, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dahlonega, Georgia. All three mints began producing coins in 1838 and they all stopped production in 1861 with the onset of the Civil War when the Confederacy took control of the mint facilities. Only the New Orleans mint resumed production after the Civil war and then not u

Bluenose #2

A flawless coin, can't see how it could get any better! This is my second Bluenose coin, it is highly sought after in Canada. I think it might rival the 1995 W Proof American Silver Eagle in value in time! [attachment=:name]

Slowly Building My Image Gallery

...even learned a few more things. I'm slowly plugging away at imaging all my coins. It certainly has been a learning experience for me. For instance, one thing I've learned is copper and bronze coins seem to photograph better if I set my white balance manually, then place the coin on a piece of 18% gray sheet, rather than a white sheet of paper, before I take the picture. Silver on the other hand, seems to work better on the white sheet. Another thing, I've noticed (and I hate to say it l

RETURNS FROM NGC

Another quality job! I purchased this coin from a wheat farmer in North Dakota, and I sent it to NGC for grading. The farmer said his family wasn't interested in his coins, so he was going to sell some and go to Walt Disney World. I told him I've never been there, but I would like to help him make his trip, by buying one on his coins! I received an E-Mail from NGC saying they sent my coins out last Friday, I received them today! Again, it looks like USPS needs help! [attachment=:nam
