PANIC !!!! PANIC!!!! PANIC!!!!

THIS MORNINGS NGC CENSUS REPORT Panic was in the air this morning. As I browsed the new census report for the Washington Dollars it showed that there where 93 coins graded MS-69 for the 2007-P previous high was 8 at MS-67. I almost fell out of the chair and said no way Jose this could be possible the way some of this coins have been beat up. So I called NGC to see what was going on,and they agreed with me that the market would crash and the phone lines would be ringing off the hook. They s

Can I bore everyone again with another picture?

I'm beginning to get the hang of this, gradually... Very gradually. This is a photo of the Obverse of my 1884-S Morgan. I'm finding that the best combination, with the equipment I have at my disposal is to film outdoors in the early evening, with enough light to illuminate everything well, but not enough to cause any glare. I'm still not there yet, compared to some of the people's pictures that I see out here, and I'm always open to advice, which I have to take the time here to thank everyone

My First Try With NCS

wary of coin conserving It is going to be a bit lengthy journal entry because I have had a lot of activity in my collecting recently--for those who read these please bear with me.......... First of all, I have been so busy, not because of any uncontrolled spending or any financial windfall--but mainly by trying to get some things in order and several coins that I have been waiting for became available simultaneously. I have decided to try out NCS mainly because of a wonderful ship coin t

I just discovered

PCGS may be better for Merc Dimes also My recent NGC slabbed 1921-P Merc dime, looks so much better than my PCGS 1921-D Merc dime. I can barely read the '1' in 1921 on the PCGS, the NGC the date is clear and bold. A major difference. The mottos are about the same, but 'Liberty' is so much clearer on the NGC, that I have to wonder why it didnt grade higher. I tried to scan pics of them, but the PCGS holder refkects wierd. Tried a few times.

"KIDS, KOINS, AND GRANDPA"

"Poppy" is quite the Hero! A few years ago, one of my nephews showed some interest in coins. We looked through an album of world coins, and I allowed him to pick "one" for himself, on the condition that on his next visit, he must locate the country of origin on a map, and tell me one fact about that country. Then he can pick another coin and repeat the process. Unfortunately, we didn't see each other very often , and this never gained any momentum. Recently, I pulled about 100 world coin

NGC Submissions

1999 Proof Sets Well, I finally figured out how to post pics in here with my equitment with a little help from my Collector friends, and my 1921 -P & 21-D Merc dimes are in Quality Control. Have 2 of each, and an error Merc that I posted previously. I will post the error again here, because it is kinda interesting. I have also submitted my last set of coins for a while, as finances are getting a little tight. I have spent about $2500 on coins & grading in the last few months. I will be

And the winner is....

ME! I can't win my own contest... besides, I probably have the wrong answer. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, we had a Secretary of the Treasury named William Windom. His great grandson, who was also his namesake, became a noted and well respected actor. William Windom (the actor) played Commadore Matt Decker in the original Star Trek. William Windom the politico is portrayed on the Series 1891 $2 Silver Certificate. Congrats to Clay, who is the winner of my trivia contest. Thank

THE BEST GEORGE WASHINGTON PRESIDENTIAL DOLLARS 2007-P&D MS-67 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE COLLECTION

GEORGE WASHINGTON MS-67 PRESIDENTIAL COIN I thought it would be interesting to see how many TOP POP MS-67 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE GEORGE WASHINGTON PRESIDENTIAL COINS I could assemble. As of today 6-07-2007 the NGC pop report for the 2007-P MS-67FD is 32 with none higher. The pop report for the 2007-D MS-67FD is 28 with none higher. PCGS POP REPORT shows MS-67-P FD @13 with none higher,MS-67-D FD @3 with none higher. So how rare are they? Pretty rare I think. Remember 1999 WASHINGTON STATE HOOD

Feeling out

How I support my habit!!!!! My flea market!!! I too have a small coin business thatI run in my spare time. I have a E-Bay store and regularly run auctions every week. I am a Bronze power seller. I have been doing this for over a year and actualy make a small profit. I have a load of fun. It is less expensive to all ready own the coin and have it graded than buying the graded coin. Said the so called expert. That is if your grading comes out right. Which we all know is the hard part. All the co

One more try today I think I figured out the correct size. My program has an option to size for the web. This is one of the coins from my mint set that came back with a decent grade. [attachment=:name]

Grading ups and downs

My first attempt 50's to 61 second try 4 70's &a 69 I joined the Society For the coupon for the free grading. I didn't understand what the Society really was. I submited my coins not wanting to be to optimistic MS63's & 4's and maybe a MS65. Well I came right back down to earth when I got my 4 coin grades of 52-61 and my gem brillant 1934 peace dollar, my just maybe a MS65 was deemed improperly clean and was not graded. That was a low spot to be sure. I couldn't give up so this time I

Answers to a Couple of your questions. Something to try to help with your pictures and your member contact question. I am not the greatest with taking and posting pictures but I'm learning. I'm not sure if this will work with a scanner but it works pretty well with digital cameras. You can try getting a picture editing program. I use "Adobe Photoshop Album". After the pictures are loaded in to your computer then transfer them to the Photoshop program. After you have them in the photoshop you c

Just back from NGC! Purchased this coin from a coin dealer in Canada, it is in great demand! I have four children, two boys and two girls. I'm trying to build each one a Proof American Silver Eagle set in PF-69 with a 70 here and there. For the spouses (3) a Mint State 69 American Silver Eagle set (I keep all the 70's). I have six grandchildren, I'm try to build each one a Mint State 69 American Silver eagle set. My oldest boy shows interest in his collection. For my youngest boy on h

F-86 SABRE hit the nail on the head

You pegged most of us I think I agree with SABRES description of the average coin collector. Yesterday I got 19 coins back from NGC, and although they didnt grade as well as thought, still got a few decent grades. As these were my first submissions to any grading company, I was excited to show 'wifey' our new additions in the evening when she got home. She said what I expected. "They look nice honey, does that mean your done with them?". I still need a couple dimes to complete the collection,

re: F-86 SABRE comment

I'm lucky You said most coin collectors have no one to pass their collections to. My daughter enjoys looking at my coins with me, and has stated her own collection. Hope it sticks, would hate to have my collections as just another item in e-bay! Luis

F-86 SABRE

Just back from NGC I purchased this coin from a collector in North Dakota, and sent it to NGC for grading. Reading the journals and listening to people, there seems to be a Theme in coin collecting. The collector is USUALLY a man and he has a passion for his coins, but his family dosen't. The wife will say that's nice, now take out the garbage, the kids want coins they can spend! So we all wonder what will happen to my collection when I'm gone? [attachment=:name]

I'm a little confused on Registry Points

How is it that a coin worth 1/3 of another have almost 15 times the Registry Points? A submission of mine just got shipped this morning, and I added the coins into my Sets. I was a little disappointed again, although not totally surprised. However, one thing that I saw really perplexed me. I submitted an 1892 Morgan, and it got graded as F12 (I was hoping for a VF20). It's value, according to Numismedia, is $17.20 I also submitted a 1878 7/8TF Morgan, which got graded as AU53 (which was a bi

MY COINS ARE HOME!!!

Something happened on the way to the grading room----- As a few of you out there know, I have been waiting for my 1947 PDS uncirculated mint sets to arrive, and they have. But there are a few problems. The most disappointing one, is my 1947-S Rossevelt Dime. Came back in a body bag. Improperly cleaned. I inspected it, but since I do not know what to look for, alas. I must find another to replace it. Another problem, which can be solved easier, is sending one of the slabs back to them. My 1947-

Flea Market now... a couple days away - A lot of work to do

Leading up to this event I have purchased two display cases and a large sign to hang from my tent/canopy....US COINS...etc Tonight I price everything out. I have to give some serious thought on how to price the coins I am going to offer. Coin prices are a funny thing. In an environment like Ebay, ther market is so saturated that realized prices tend to be below the industry as a whole. Then you have a couple different price guides which are supposed to help you determine a coins worth.

The waiting (and the waiting, and the waiting...)

I've got a submission that's been in Quality Control for over a week I don't know why I'm so anxious to find out how my submission came out. I put it in before I got my last one back, and that was a disaster. I put in 11 Morgans, and Lord only knows how many will come back in body bags. I've got an 1890-CC VAM-4 Tail Bar that is almost guaranteed to get bounced, based upon what I've learned by recent submissions. I'm hoping and praying that my 1878 7/8TF and 1879-O come back with grades. Guess

RE: Flea Market

I've known a couple of people that have set up in Flea Markets in the past. One of them sets up on a regular basis now. From what they tell me and from what I have seen, the clientele that frequent the Flea Markets are not the type of people that will be willing to spend alot of money on "scarce or rare" coins. They will be the type that are not very knowledgeable or are looking for a bargain. The guy that sets up regularly around here buys all of the common date, low grade Morgan dollars that
