I Finally Got my Three back from NGC!

I had to go to the Post Office to get them but they are finally home. According to the U.S. Mail tracking # the package arrived in town on May 24th at 8:11 in the morning and as of today (May 29th) they had not been delivered to my house so I went to the Post Office with a copy of my tracking number in hand and picked it up for myself. They don't call it "Snail Mail" for nuthin' This is one of the coins that I was privileged to be able to purchase from my friend before we sent his coins off

Milestone 125,000 Registry Points

Too Late To Back Out Now? Gold is my favorite US coin. Which one? I like Coronets, I like Indians, and Saints! If only I had not grabbed the loop and looked at the deep satin luster that one fateful day! Too late to back out now! I am plunging forward with all due moderation. Diversifying into platinum meant buying a couple more platinum coins for my set, if interested. This diversification was at 1300 spot, and coins were costing in the 1400 range per oz for MS 69. Platinum is cold t

YEEEE HAAAW!!!

I got one!!! One WHAT you may ask... well, I'll tell you... A Washington "Smoothie". I have been watching these on the auctions and from the dealers. They certainly seem to be the coin to get. The only problem is the actual "getting". Last week, at my local coin shop, they had one, raw, for $130. I fussed and fretted. Tried to talk him down, thought some more and about 30 minutes later, when I finally decided to not be so darned cheap... IT WAS GONE!!! I couldn't believe it!! Been that

1947 Mint Set

Pics In Registry Finally took the time to upload the pics for my almost complete 1947 PDS Mint Sets. Not happy with the scans, but I will update them when I get the chance to mess with the fine tuning, to get clearer pics. Only missing the 1947-D Jefferson Nickel, which is at NGC right now getting re-holdered, and the 1947-D Roosevelt Dime, which I am bidding on as I write this. Bid was up to $8.61, so I may have it, as only my bid, and one other are competing thus far. This set has been both

P.T. Barnum said it....

Send me three bucks, I'll send you ONE. OK, he didn't say that exactly, but he said there is a sucker born every minute... and many of them are coin collectors. Here's why. This last week we saw the release of the new John Adams dollar. The US Mint will be glad to sell you these dollars for a nice fat premium. A roll which contains 25 of the new shiny dollars can be yours for only $35.95 plus shipping and handling. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catal

Turnaround time

My fastest turn around time yet. I send a submission in and it was recieved 5-18 it was for the earlybird service which looks to run 12 business days. I check today and its already been graded and is now on its way back to me. I was very impressed by the speed of this submission. Considereding my last submission ran a little long.

Memorial Day and Thoughts of My Dad

approaching holiday has me reminiscing As the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaches I have seen some great articles and programs on the remarkable men {and women} who have given so much to insure the liberty and freedoms that we have in this great nation. My father was one who served, and among my treasures are his 2 overseas service medals and a purple heart. Amazing to me was that he got the second overseas medal AFTER he got the purple heart. I have been asked many times about my pas

And while I'm at it!!!!

Why doesn't "numismedia" list any type of prices? Who is this "Numismedia" and WHY is NGC going with them if they can't even price a 2007 Washington Dollar like PCGS can?!?!?! I like NGC over PCGS, but PLEASE! Get someone to price your collection accordingly!!!!!! Everything I type in has ** for a price. That is UNSAT. And that description says that they do not price that type of coin, or is the price of the parent coin. SO, let's examine that for a sec. A 2000 CLOSE "AM" cent is the sa

2007 Washington Dollars

Nine (9) varities already? And that's just NGC?? ALright, time out. I need a breather here. I just quit smoking (1 Feb this year) after 25 years and I have to attack things differently now. How did there become 9 different varaitions of the Washington dollar and we are not even half way through the year yet? I will say, I have my 2 rolls, and my 2 rolls of Monroe, along with my 2 rolls of 2000 Sac's, all original bank wraps. So far, as in grading, there is over 50k that have been graded.

It will be a short winter this year

I thought I would have to 'hibernate' I have recently posted that after my 1999 Proof set comes back from NGC, that I would have to abstain from depleting our almost maxed out credit cards until next spring, when the IRS would rejuvinate our account with a refund. But I need not worry about putting my buying and grading on hold til then. I found out today that in July, I will receive a check I thought would not be here for another 6 to 9 months. So I would say that a simple phone call I receiv

What A Wonderful Experience! Continued......

A while ago I wrote about a gentleman that needed some help with cataloging his coins so that he could sell them.... Well, we are finished and they were shipped to the auction company today. This guy had (at least to me) some very special coins. It's not very often that someone like me has the opportunity to handle some early American Draped Bust coins without someone watching me very closely to make sure that his coins aren't going to disappear or worse. I don't blame them, after all these ar

Someone lit a fire under NGC

Fast Turnaround Well, I am surprised! My pair of 1921, and 1921-D Mercury dimes made it from received to finalized/shipping in only 12 days!. Nice job NGC. 3 of them graded ag-3, no surprise. However, there must be alot of 'improperly cleaned' coins out there, cause one of my 1921's (P) came back as a casualty. I guess ya win some, and----. My 1999 Clad 9 piece Proof set is sent, and I hope to redeem myself with PR-70's all around. Then I will concentrate on the photo & scanning aspect, wh

Three Coins Back From NGC !

I did better than I thought I would and the turnaround was great! The invoice date for these two submissions was May 15th and they were finalized and shipped on May 22nd! That's probably the best turn around time that I've had for an Earlybird submission! Way to go NGC! I sent in three coins, two to get graded and one for a crossover. I wasn't sure that any of them would make it through but two did. The one that didn't was the ANACS crossover. (Anyone surprised?!) The two that did make it w

Washington Dollar MS67

Went thru a few boxes only to find a few worth grading. After 5 boxes of "P" dollars looking for that infamous edgeless coin and taking time to pick out a few that was worth grading. I figured I had one MS67 and the rest MS66. I was correct on all of them except one MS65. My eyes must have tricked me again... Being from a small populated area in Wisconsin, the banks don't get the new coins in right away, making it impossible to ever get that gem MS67FD. I think there's too much weight p

You have to laugh

You have to laugh at some of the prices people will pay for some coins. I purchase a great many of my coins via Teletrade auctions. I generally believe that the auction market is a good judge of the value of a coin. However, one has to laugh at some of the prices being bidded. For example, I've noticed recently that PF70 G$25 Eagles are fetching upwards of $1200 for each coin. For the life of me I can't understand why people belive these coins are worth nearly 3 times its original pric

First Flea Market --- In the books --- What I learned (pic added)

I learned some things I didnt know and gained a lot of knowledge on the Flea Market scene. Well my first official setup to sell coins (and other items) is in ther books. I setup ar around 6am and endured the pouring rain for the entire day. Of course, anyone who has ever attended this flea market knows that it always finds a way to rain for the event every year... So I was fully prepared. I was setup under a 12x12 canopy with my collection of coins, sports cards and nascar die cast collect

1947-S

Darn!! As you know, there were no 1947-S half dollars minted. My dime came back as 'improperly cleaned'. I bought the entire set in a Capitol holder, and never even looked at the dates or mintmarks. A valuable lesson learned. Looking for a 1947-S dime, NGC slabbed of course. [attachment=:name]

The 1947-D

HMMMMMMM!!!! As you can see, my dime ended up being a 1946 instead of a 47. And my nickel came back certified as a half dollar. (the nickel is for sale on E-Bay right now under errors). [attachment=:name]

AIN'T THAT A SHAME!

You have to go outside of NGC for the highest grades! If you want to be in the TOP in the IKE Proof Dollar set, you need to purchase PCGS coins to get a proof 70. People are always saying PCGS grades tighter, not the case with IKE"s. Any how, take a look at my newest Panada graded by NGC! [attachment=:name]
