Paydirt for VAM's at the Bargain Bin!

I Found two more VAM's in the Bargain Bin at my local coin shop today... I love it! Some people look at me a little funny when they see me going through all of the common date Peace Dollars, with a magnifying glass, that are in the Bargain Bin but it only goes to show that one mans trash is another mans treasure! This time I found two Top 50 1922 VAM-2E Wing Break Peace Dollars. Both will grade in at AU 55/58, they are worth 502 points a piece in the Registry. Not bad for the $22.00 ($11.00

opps 1948d ngc with a 1947 ms 67 in the holder

think they made a mistake? purchased a 48d ms 66 ngc lincs, when i got the coin it was a mistake the 47 in the holder has to be a 67-68 red super coin. if i send it to be corrected who knows what they will do.this coin is super clean bright red and looks like it just came out of the mint.but will they give it the grade it deserves, who knows, not sure what to do may just leave it in the holder and wait but i could use a 47 ms 67 red for the registry.

Asleep At The Switch?

Why did I get back into collecting again? I know there must have been a reason? I recently decided to start getting my mint sets certified and felt the perfect place to start was with one of my 1964 proof sets. After removing the coins from their original mint cellophane for shipping I was very pleased to see that they looked even better than I had thought. I knew they wouldn?t get the coveted UC designation but felt all five coins had excellent strikes and would grade in the 67-69 range wi

U.S. Coins

Prez Dollars It is amazing to see some one paying $100 for a coin that was minted this year but the same person will hesitate to pay $20 for a coin that minted 120 years earlier.

1881 Bulgarian Coins

Given by a friend of the family. Well, apparently there was some kind of dig or excavation and a few Bulgarian Coins from the time when that country was ruled by a Monarch were found. It seems they had a few extra ones and the the curator at a museum (I don't know which one) gave 2 of them to a friend of my mother who is from that country. Well, she knew that I collect coins including some foriegn coins I've found over time and so she gave them to my mother to give to me. The coins are black

The Union of South Africa Coinage Varieties & Population Statistics

Excerpts from my journals published in South Africa. The information will be focussed on the die varieties I have discovered as well as information on the possible population statistics based on the massive smelting that took place up to 1980. The following pages contain all the varieties I have discovered, logged and coded. To maintain a undisputable level of integrity as to the existence of these coins, I have kept every single coin in my personal collection. My work therefore can be verifie

Ultra Cameo's-Worth Every Point

it's the desirability As has been said many times in journal entries, "the demand creates the value of a coin"-and also the number of points a coin is worth. Many people wonder about how NGC comes up with the points for particular coins...how do they weigh market value, versus mintages, versus condition rarity etc etc. Let's look at the Jefferson nickel proofs for example: almost all of the 1980's -2006 are worth only 3 points for a PF69UCAM, which makes sense since there are tens of thousan

NGC vs PCGS grading

Here's a recent example of NGC and PCGS grading. Just some food for thought: I purchased 20 Little Rock Proof Silver dollars from the mint recently. I randomly selected 10 coins to be graded by NGC and 10 by PCGS. Well I got the results back from both: NGC = 10 PF70 UC // PCGS 10 = PR69 DCAM. Is this proof that either NGC is grading too high or PCGS too low? While I like the NGC grade of course, I think a better mix of grades might have made me happier.

PCGS?

Oh, -- the slabs I buy when NGC ones are not available I have never dealt with PCGS, but I understand where Dominator is coming from. Legitimate grading services are not as plentiful as fast food joints (legitimate ones, not SGS or other fly-by-nighters) so we must use what ones are out there. But if a grading service, or any other service for that matter, was not making me 100% happy, I would give them the boot. Still more than plenty of people who will still use them, but if service is decli

REGISTRY POINTS! What they should do

Just what I think about how the REGISTRY Points should work. Everyone is in it for the points. No? why not setup a system that works with both price and rarity. Because Its hard when u have pr69 but its only worth 3 points. that kinda hurts your pockets and spirit. So please Collectors Society do something for the collectors!!

"What ever happened to PCGS?"

Pretty Soon thats what we all will be saying soon. I think PCGS has gotten soo big that they are their own worst ememy. I have an acct with PCGS with their REGISTRY. I asked them about the coin covers. will they do something like NGC. After waiting a week and a half. i got a very rude "no" Little by Little PCGS is losing customers. Ive had numerous service issues with them, and they always take forever to help. I no longer goto coin shows and see PCGS coins. Im going to boldly say that 80% off

Ultra Cameo vs High Grade SMS Nickels

NGC puts a premium on points for ultra cameo, but are these really more rare than higher graded coins without ultra cameo? I collect proof Jefferson nickels and have all but one from 1938 to present. To move up the registry list on the late proof Jeffersons from 1965 to present, there are only three options: 1) Get PF70 UC examples. PF70 UC is worth 102+ points, but anything PF69 UC and below are worth basically nothing. I have all PF70 UC from 1990-S on, but anything from the 1970s or 1

"The Cover" Relooked

I think its going to be a great return for your buck. Whether you keep it closed or have it certified by NGC. I think those coin cover will have a nice return a couple of year down the road. already the Washingston Covers I've seen being sold for $59.99 UNCERTIFIED! $59.99 - 14.95 = a $45.04 Profit. minus shipping and whatever other charges you may have gotten but still a nice return. And thats just now. I can't wait to see what will happen a year from now. By the way Kings of Eagles and to al

I Love It Under "The Covers"

Don't be afraid to put some money into the Presidential Covers !!! If you don't buy some of these Presidential Covers now mark my words when more people get involved with the Presidential Dollars down the road these things will be more scarce and more expensive. What I really like about them more than anything else is that the people who buy them and don't open up the Mint sealed "White Envelope" will have a little gold mine later on when they sell for ever increasing prices to those who want

Error Penny

They call it an 'off center' error If it is missing 20% to 60% for modern coins, it is considered an off center error. If it is only slightly off center, it is called a 'broad strike' error. The coins like this which have a readable date and mint mark are more valuable than specimens that do not. Your kind of error coin lists in The Official Red book as having an average buy price of $5.00. But depending on how high it grades, could be worth more. Plus, a coin is only worth the value we place

A Coins value is determine only by what the buyer is willing to pay

I dont guide myself by books. If someone truely really loves a coin. i dont think a book can tell you what the value of that coin is. yes we use the red book, or goto PCGS to get a peek of what its worth, but a coin to me is only worth what im willing to pay. thank you for your interest and the feedback. Ill be sending the penny out next week, with the John Adams Coin Covers. Ill keep everyone on a Status by status journal entry. Metal 9 Keep on rocking. I love to hear feedback from other coll
