Journal?
As any one who has read any of my journals over the past couple of years knows, my collecting priorities lie in Morgan Dollars. Since completion of my Morgan set in April of 2006, I?ve added over 36,000 points and I?ve managed to drop only one notch in the rankings. Approximately $20,000 and one less position. SMOOTH! I?m not upset. My set is much higher quality than it was 15 months ago. However, I seem to be swimming upstream against an ever increasing current.
WARNING!
Status: "Received"
Well I have been all over the internet, and I have yet to have seen any NGC John Adams Certified Coin Covers! which is good but but bad. I really wanna to know cencus of these coin covers. This time im a bit more calm, unlike last time I was freaking out every other day that went by. Till next status report. Takecare.. Bye Danny
You would think that would be the case but
If I am correct the only differences that are considered when grading are the individual series' specific attributes like the wear points or anything else that may be applicable for that series. For example; the wear points and the prime focal areas for Lincoln Cents are not the same as those for Indian Head Cents, however, that only goes as far as the circulated grades. Uncirculated grades are basically the same. An MS 65 coin, no matter what the coi
It seems to me that old coins minted before 1960 should have different criteria than Modern coins.
Does this ring true? I can see that some of the criteria is the same but not all. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Not all coins start at a 70 point scale
I just got back 6 coins from NGC today--on a quick note, the $25 registered mail postage I paid NGC to return my coins took 10 days and the $8 USPS priority mail/fully insured took 2-3 days for them to receive them, go figure.
But to my point about grading, it is very complex and the more I study it-through books and hands on looking at coins and trying to figure why they were attributed the grade they were, the more I feel I may never get it--altho
Grading coins is as much of an art as it is a science. Some would say that it leans more to the artistic side...
Others may not agree. In either case the best place to start is to get a copy of "The Official A.N.A. Grading Standards for United States Coins", Published by Whitman Publishing and study it. You can start by studying the series' that you collect and then after you begin to feel comfortable with those you can move on to others.
Sending coins in to NGC has taught me a tremendous a
My coins from yesterday in Q/C are finalized 8 ms65 and 1 ms64 washington smooth edge errors
I am still new to coin collecting and have sent in 3 batches. Now how do I learn what coins will grade at what level. I mean what is the diffrence between ms64 and ms70? Can someone who is experianced is this field please point me in the right direction?
Presidential $1 Error Coins: John Adams
I just now read the main page of NGC, and that is what I find! I only have 2 rolls of Adams, but NOW it's like a RASH! I can't help myself to open them up and see if there are any errors! It's like the 2 Gen Washington rolls that I have. AAARRRGGG! (as Charlie Brown would say) I may just get another 2 rolls out of the credit union and see if I strike it rich......let the other two sets rolled as is for my boys.
And to reflect on a great hobby from a great country and an astounding history.
I mean, think about it for a while. Not a second, but a while. How some people use the phrase "if these walls could talk", and you think of how old the house is, and what has transpired within those walls.
Now, think of the coins you may have. I have a few 1808 half cents. Our Nation was only 32 years young. Thomas Jefferson was President. It was 4 years before the war of 1812 when the British didn't lear
THE question of our hobby
It took me a long while to understand "luster or lustre". I think I know luster when I see it but I doubt I could even describe it. I might be able to show someone luster. I know you WANT luster!
Definition form a lingo web page:
In numismatics, the amount and strength of light reflected from a coin?s surface or its original mint bloom. Luster is the result of light reflecting on the flow lines, whether visible or not.
Now that I have found a definition of luste
I dont know much
I would like to tell you the answer, but I need to learn how to tell also. The seasoned collector will probably tell us it depends on alot of factors. Each coin has certain attributes that stand out, that are more easily worn, bold mintmarks or filled, hair boldness, stars, mottos, --- so many reasons that a coin can look very similar, yet grade higher or lower. Plus, grading has its guidelines, but it is also in the eye of the grader at that particular moment in his/her life.
HARSH!!!!
I am soon expecting the return of my latest submission. I get coins in all kinds of holders, and when that occurs, it is because I liked the coin...not the holder. But I want my better coins in NGC holders so I cross them over.
It almost seems like NGC penalizes us for having had our coin in another company holder. It seems like the attitude is...:that'll teach you for having it graded by ____ first!" and the coin gets knocked down a gade or three. Now granted, not all TPG's are
LIGHTNING FAST
Man these guys are fast. They were recieved on the 25th it has been 6 working days and there going to be shipped out tommorrow!
I have 7 more that i want to send in for grading but they have some starburst effect on them, look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Will they call it damage or grade them? I don't want to waste the $12 each.
Thanks
If the last day was yesterday.....
June 30th was the last day to update your set. When will they say the winners? I Just wanna know because I have a couple of sets in the top 3. I just wanted to know thanks.
BUT I KEPT HEARING THAT VOICE SAYING "BUY ME BUY ME"
I too said,no no I wont do this. But the fever got higher and higher.
I started seeing Presidential coin`s in my dreams.
The Ebay voices were calling BUY IT NOW OR BEST OFFER.
PayPal said CHARGE IT NOW PAY LATER.
I feared the worst the prices would rise,so I pushed the PAY NOW BUTTON.
So now I sit and wait for the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE to delivery my cure and join you all at the top of the list.
Lets have fun........
Bummer
I recently had a nickel labeled as a 50c piece come back from NGC. When I called them, they said to send the coin back, and they would fix it. It is called a 'mechanical error', and from what I have seen in the last 6 months or so, it happens more than every so often with them. Makes me wonder also about how accurate my grades are on some of my other coins. (maybe sour grapes) but if they have trouble making sure which denomination goes with what holder, makes ya wonder about accuracy i
It has been several months since my last journal entry and many good things have happened during that time.
First of all, I had sent eight Silver Eagles to NGC for certification back in May. Twelve days after I mailed them, they were setting in my mail box at home. That was the fastest turn around time I have ever received from NGC. Thank you NGC and keep up the good work. Three of the Silver Eagles were 2006 W uncirculated coins fresh from the mint. I examined all three of them very closely a
What does the "W" mean?
I was going through some of my graded SBA coins. I came across this 1999 P SBA MS67 W. What does the "W" mean?
I checked the number 119661-066 and it doesn't show anything other the norm. If you know what the "W" means and if this is rare, please let me know!
Thanks
....But... I won't.
I just had a hankering to gripe about a small problem over at NGC, but I decided not to. If a small problem at NGC is the only thing I have to complain about, then I am indeed truly blessed in a wonderful land and country.
No, instead of complaining about a stupid little thing, we all need to take stock of what we have in our great country. We truly have the greatest country on Earth. It is not the government that makes us great, but it is YOU, John and Jane Doe. The
