Crossover grades can be...
HARSH!!!!
I am soon expecting the return of my latest submission. I get coins in all kinds of holders, and when that occurs, it is because I liked the coin...not the holder. But I want my better coins in NGC holders so I cross them over.
It almost seems like NGC penalizes us for having had our coin in another company holder. It seems like the attitude is...:that'll teach you for having it graded by ____ first!" and the coin gets knocked down a gade or three. Now granted, not all TPG's are the same, and many holders deserve to be knocked down three grades.
This submission had 6 commemerative dollars and half dollars, all ICG MS70... 5 crossed at MS69 and 1 at MS68. I had a 1962 Franklin in a PCI holder, PF69dc (don't be laughing now), which I knew would go down a few... comes back PF65 with no cameo designation at all!! Whats up with that??!!
The other four coins fell within range of where I thought they would. I want a coin to get its grade on merit, not because the grader is ticked that it was in a different slab first.
I didn't comlpain the other day... so I guess I will today.. :-)
Hope all of you have a great 4th of July
Mike
