So called "error Presidetial dollars"

Don't get taken. For those of you who thought that these are error coins, this is a statement isssued by the US Mint. It has come to the attention of the United States Mint that some people are offering to sell so-called George Washington Presidential $1 "error" coins with "upside-down" edge-lettering on on-line auction sites. These coins are not "error" coins. The Presidential $1 Coins are inscribed on the edge without regard to their "heads" or "tails" orientation. The edge-incused insc

Half eagle update

It's real, but not really. Well the testing came in this morning. The half eagle is gold, but not genuine. It seems to be a casting. At least that is what my local expert collector is telling me. Took him a few minutes and 16x loupe to tell me that. I'll have to say he has better eyes than I. I could not see what he saw. Oh well, it retains it's sentimental value for me. I'll keep it knowing it was from my dad. Time to move on and get the next batch on its way.

The Forgotten Coin

Ncs submission showed up at NGC I am a bit embarassed to admit this {especially since I take a bit of pride in my steel trap of a memory} but I had forgottten about a coin I had submitted. I have been a bit overwhelmed with working, I also had 6 coins in an NGC submission I was keeping track of and with all of the summer plans, cookouts, obligations, anniversary, birthdays etc etc--it just slipped my mind. In mid-may I had sent away a 1907 Jamestown 300th Aniversary SC$1 to NCS for conservin

My first submissions have come home I was so glad to see my babies come back. Whew. Never, ever have I sent any of my collection so far away for so long a period of time. I have to say I am totally underwhelmed with the results of my first submissions. Only one of the five came back encapsulated. If the grading of coins is this subjective, then my time here will be short indeed. Submitted 1881-S Morgan, 1964 Kennedy, 1941-S Mercury, 1943 Mercury, and a 1886 Half Eagle. Morgan came back "Imp

2007 W SILVER AMERICAN EAGLE NGC MS 70 EARLY RELEASES

WOW! HOW MANY ARE THERE! I PURCHASED 35 '07 W SILVER EAGLES, AND OUT OF THOSE 35, I RECEIVED 30 NGC MS70 EARLY RELEASES. I MEAN WOW! MY EXPERIENCE WITH NGC HAS DEALT ME SOME VERY NICE GRADES ON MY SUBMISSIONS, BUT 30/35. THAT HAS TO BE A RECORD OF SOME SORT, THAT IS LIKE 89% WAS GRADED A 70. I HOPE THEY KEEP THIS UP, I LOVE HAVING THE 70s IN MY SET, BUT I'M AFRAID OF THE DECLINING VALUES, DUE TO THE QUANTITIES, THERE ARE 5100 MS 70 '07 Ws, OUT OF 25,000 GRADED, THAT SEEM HIGH TO ME, UNLESS THE

Jumping into the Presidents

Well, at least they're cheaper than Morgans Just got a 2007 Presidential Proof Set from the Mint today. I'm going to submit them tomorrow and see what happens. I'm also going to go ahead and send in a 1958 and a 1960 Proof Set to see how they do, although my Wife will probably be upset when she sees that they're gone from their display cases (Our birth years. They're still in their original cellophane, which makes for a hideous display, but they have sentimental value) Hmm... Maybe I'll jus

Re: OUTRAGED WITH PCGS!!

Why that angry? The presidential coins aren't THAT expensive and as Yevrah pointed out you should be able to return it. Why get so mad about it? If you're going to give yourself a stroke at a young age at least have it over something more meaningful, right? I'm just saying calm down. The anger won't help you resolve the problem.

Bruce is right

Sorry for your loss I am deeply sorry for your loss, and give our prayers to your wife and family. I feel a certain comradery in this forum as Bruce mentioned. When I get a new coin, or just have one of those rare days, I know I can come in here, and brag, or vent, and I feel safe in doing so. I honestly feel when a group of people have a common interest and interact within a well-run forum such as this, it can have a very positive effect on everyone involved. I can give you a good example. A

Thanks Lee for your response

1876 3cn PF66* Today I received the return of this coin along with the long awaited return of my money for the coins I sold months ago. Thank-you Lee. I actually brought this coin with me when I laid down to sleep, it is such a beautiful coin. With no one to verbalize my happiness with, (the wife can't take any more of my enthusiasm and she has lost her ability to fake it) I can truly say I understand that the only true happiness is that of the individual heart, mind and soul.

Condolences to Clay

I'm sure that I speak for everyone here... Even though most of us have never met face-to-face, or have even spoken to one another on the telephone, we all share a common bond and a sense of Community. That said, I believe that everyone who is a member here would agree with me when I extend my heartfelt condolences to your Sister, as well as to yourself, on such a terrible loss. Bruce

Last Week Wasn't So Good!

Had a death in the family. We received a call on Sunday that we needed to go to Montana, my wife's brother wasn't doing well. I received an E-Mail from NGC that my order was mailed Monday, July 2, 2007. I assumed it would be here when I got back from Montana. July 4, 2007, my brother-in-law passed away today in Montana! We returned home 6 July 2007 and on Saturday I went to get my order from the Post Office. Surprise it wasn't there! Well I did receive my order today, July 9, 2007.

I have had a bad day

I need to vent I have a couple coin sets in EBay for sale, along with some sports cards and other assorted items. If the coin sets sell, I hope I do not have the same problem with them, as I did with my Shaq rookie cards. The lady bid on them, then ignored me for two weeks. Sent invoice the day after she won. I told her in another message, that if she had an un-forseen problem, to let me know. She said she didnt realize that I dont accept PayPal, and it was too risky to send a check or money

Marks I dont think that sounds right, about being a point where the lettering would be applied to the same spot each time. Not saying its impossible, just dosent seem like they would do that. However, I used to screen print, and we used similar marks to line up our screens for multi-colored patterns, so that they were all uniform in location on the shirt, hat, ect. So you may be right, but it would be a shame if they are minting coins using that process. It damages the coin before it ever sees

Lousy Presidential Proof Sets

Tempted to return this sets but not sure if I would get any better next time. I gotta tell ya, these new Presidential Proof Sets are the worst I've seen from the US Mint in awhile. Remember the commemorative Old Mint from last year. Most had fine scratches and/or tiny pit marks. They are on these proofs as well including most are stained as well. If you look at the design closely, you will see why it will be near impossible to obtain a perfect PF70 on these coins. Also, I have found what

Census updated weekly?

I don't think so. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm still waiting for them to update the census with data about the 2007-W Silver American Eagle. Speculation about the number of those things that are going to be available have been inflating the price and encouraging speculation on those coins since mid-June.
