Adams Crossover

PCGS does not always grade stricker than NGC I submitted (7) 2007 Adams MS66 to crossover to NGC. Only two of them got the MS66 grade to crossover...This makes me wonder if we are all paying too much for slabbed PCGS when their grades could be less than than NGC. Sounds like more hype than real to me. Just had to add my two cents! Has anyone else come across this recently?

It?s moments like these?

?that keep me coming back for more. Dear Journal: I?ve been looking to upgrade my 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar in the GSA holder to MS66 from MS65 for some time. Although this is the most common non-Carson City dollar in the GSA holder, with 137 coins graded as of this writing, finding one graded higher than MS65 is nearly impossible. 31 had been graded MS65, but only 2 were certified as MS66, and none were graded higher. For registry players, this is the Holy Grail they search for. I fi

Coin Show

Attending first show what to look for? I'll be going to my first coin show at the Sahara Hotel Casino this weekend and was wondering what I should look for? I have heard a lot about doctored coins but if I stick with NGC or PGCS certified coins will that be an issue. Thanks for any input.

Here's another Honest Dealer

And no, I don't know the guy personally... :-) There's a fellow by the name of James Petersen out of California who uses the handle "uspowercoins" on eBay. I've bought a few PF70 Statehood Quarters off the guy. Prices were OK. Nothing spectacular. I've seen the same quarters go for more and go for less. But I've never been one to shop based on price alone, and he appeared to be reliable. I found out just how reliable about two weeks ago. I purchased a PF70 Nevada from him and got a Nebraska

My two cents about dealers

2007w Silver Eagles four 69's one 70 To start with I have a small coin business on the side. My monthly sales are about $1500. My wife tells me I will never make a go of it because I'm to honest. I don't sell junk or over graded coins. I no what it feels like to be cheated and ripped off and don't want to cause anyone that feeling. I buy and sell on E-bay, mostly raw coins. I buy only NGC or PCGS graded coins on E-bay for my self. Most all the graded coin lots and bulk buys are ripoffs, over g

A Little Disappoinment

Couldn't work out a trade I recently saw a coin that an on-line dealer had listed. It looked fairly nice and so I contacted the dealer with a few questions. He answered them ok, but I had an additional question as I wanted to trade a piece that I had picked up an upgrade for a while back. He would not give me a firm trade value until he could see the coin, which is understandable. When pressed for a ballpark pending a final review when he had the piece in hand, he came back with a very low amo

NEW MORGAN ADITION

Great Ebay BUY I recently purchased some raw coins on ebay. They look nice and the price was acceptable. First 1887 S (This was really cheap $70.00) Graded MS63 Second 1903 $85.00 Graded MS65 Third 1884 CC $170.00 GSA Graded MS63 This the best experience with Ebay I ever had. Most of the time coins are usually cleaned or altered. You can see pictures of these coins in my registry set.

re: Latest Submission Results

A bit disappointed, but a nice surprise 2007 Presidential Proofs: 4 x PF-69 UCAM. Time to send in another one. 2007 Clad State Quarters: 1 x PF-70 (Washington), 4 x PF-69. I got Montana in PF-70 during my last go around. I hope this doesn't mean that I have to send in FIVE proof sets to get them all in PF-70!! :-) 1988-S Silver Eagle Proof: PF-69 UCAM 2006 Silver State Quarters: 1 x PF-70 (Nebraska), 3 x PF-69, 1 x PF-69 Mint Error (Colorado). Fast Talk

Dealer's are for some reason saying the same thing. Of course, this doesn?t apply to every dealer; I?ve met, just nearly most. I like Shield Nickels (to be more honest, I like Longacre?s coins), but when I venture out to dealers looking for the good stuff (mint state shields). I get the same reply ? don?t? have ?em, can?t keep ?em. So normally, I bring a few with me, mostly f-vf, just for trading stuffs. And I get the same reply, can?t do anything with then, hard to sell. Got the results of my latest submission

The results were not all that I hoped, but then again, they seldom are... My Presidential Proof Set came back as all PF69UC. I was hoping that there'd be a 70 in there, but oh well. My 1958 Proof Set came back as all PF67, which I'm not terribly disappointed in. Getting grades beyond that for that timeframe is a rare event indeed My 1960 Proof Set disappointed me a little bit. The penny came back PF66 Cameo (Large Date), and the Franklin came back as PF65 (which depressed me), with the bal

Advice Requested

Please feel free to respond via e-mail Hi everyone: I was cleaning out an old cabinet yesterday, and came across something that I had forgotten that I even had. I have four 1999 Uncirculated Mint Sets with State Quarters. Two from Philly, and two from Denver. They were received as gifts back in '99, and for some reason, they got stashed in the cabinet instead of placed with my collection. I'm considering sending all four off to NGC for grading, but I was wondering if I could get some advic

I wish that NGC gave you more info on the status of your submissions

For us impatient ones, at least... Currently, there are only a handful of status values that appear when checking on the status of your order(s). Received Scheduled for Grading Quality Control Finalized/Imaged/Shipped There may be another one; I'm not sure, and feel too lazy right now to go and check. Anyway, my point is that there are actually many more discrete steps within the grading process, and I am sure that NGC keeps track of those steps internally (if you call to enquire,

Looking for a Good dealer

Help me find one..... Can anyone help me find a reputable dealer in the Hartford Ct., Springfield Ma. area. I hear so many horror stories that I am very shy about talking to any of them. So many have great stories about how good they are, but that is their opinion. Send me a E-Mail through The Collectors Society. Thanks a lot Searcher

NGC vs PCGS? Whatever

Same old song. We can sit in front of our computers and debate NGC versus PCGS for weeks with both sides of the arguement having valid points and stories/examples. I see no purpose in even discussing the point. The people refered to who pay more for PCGS plastic than NGC plastic are doing just that, being stupid and paying for the plastic. Personally, I prefer NGC, not for the name one the label (that is a factor though since I don't buy XYZ affairs) but because I like the look of the NGC slab

Honesty and Integrity in Coin Dealers? Of course, you've got to find them!

Are there such things as honest coin dealers? Mr. Cooper is right on when he states that there are some great dealers and some horrific dealers. Even in a town like Sacramento the difference stands out like a sore thumb. I have the good fortune of having met Connie and Dave at Excelsior Coin in Sacramento. There are other shops in town and I even visited one once. Boy I didn't realize how good I had it. Talk about shady. When Connie and Dave were on vacation I needed some supplies and sh

I agree with Dutch

Maybe PCGS is the way to go I also have had some time to look at various denoms and grades of coins in shops, and on Ebay. It does seem that PCGS coins are worth more. Not all, but so many that it has me scratching my head. I am pretty sure after much study, that my two PCGS 1916-D Merc dimes would make g-4 instead of ag-3 if submitted to NGC. a $150.00 to $200.00 difference. But if it came back the same grade, would be worth less by NGC. I am going to look at PCGS, and see what the deal reall

US.President Proof coins love them or hate them

How do you feel? I have just sent in to NGC, my 14 sets of President Proof coins for grading total of 56 coins. Before I boxed the coins up, I took a look at them under my 30-power microscope. I was quite disappointed in what I saw. I was more disappointed in what I did not see. In 4 of the coins I did not see a sharp clean strike. The coins looked more like someone at the mint took the President dollar die and hit it with a hammer to strike the coin. Other coins were rough around the edges

PCGS or NGC, that is the question.

What a difference a slab makes. I was just checking prices on 2007 Little Rock commems. A NGC MS70 or PF70 will run you between $50 and $80. The same coin in a PCGS slab will cost between $250 and $280. What is the difference? Both are reputable grading services. If I was to buy the NGC graded coins and send them to PCGS to crossover, which they should, the value of my coins would increase by $200 each. I see coins graded by PCGS almost always command a higher price. I currently have my coins

An HONEST Dealer...WHERE!!!

When Diogenes said "Show me an honest man", walking with his lamp... he was talking about car dealers and coin dealers! An earlier post made a reference to "some" coin dealers being on the same social level as used car dealers. There are good and bad in both, and it is up to us, the consumer, to find out which is the right dealer for us. Caveat emptor.. buyer beware!! We need to do a little research ourselves.. call the local BBB (Better Business Bureau) and see if any complaints have been re
