"Raising Dust For Mexico"

...Announcing a new signature set. I've been sorting through my collection, trying to get everything priced and in my collection software, and also trying to get pictures taken of all my coins. The main reason I'm doing all this is to keep my insurance man happy, he's been bugging me for years to get him a list of all my collectibles, along with pictures and replacement values. Another reason is it's just so much fun looking at my coins and wondering what kind of stories they could tell. Thi

One of my top ten wanted coins found

Been looking for a 1999W ms $5 gold eagle for a while now. There's alot out there but everybody wants a arm and a leg for them. Last night looking around on the internet I found a site David Lawrence Rare Coins. They had three of the coins on their site last night for about half of what they are on Ebay. I thought I would put in a teaser bid, and this morning I checked my e-mail and was surprised to find I has won one of these. I almost bought one that was on Ebay a couple of months ago. I gue

The countdown begins...

Thank the Good Lord that my wife doesn't know how much it costs to grade a coin! I've got 42 coins on this latest submission My latest submission just went to Received status on the website. So, in about 2-1/2 weeks I should have them back. I'm taking quite a gamble here. I'm gambling that I'm going to get some decent grades on some Mint Sets that will justify the cost of this submission, by letting me sell some of the duplicates off to recoup my costs. If my wife could see the bottom line o

1999 Silver Proofs

Finally I finally found a 1999 Silver Proof set that didnt cost an arm & leg. I will be submitting the set to NGC as soon as it arrives. Then my 1999 Proofs will be complete. Just hoping for 69's across the board, but would really be happy with 70's. My clads came back 69 UC, so 69's would be ok. Got this set for almost a hundred under Redbook, so I am happy as a lark right now.

Doubles

Doubled Dies and Strike Doubling Dear Journal, (or anybody else) I am getting more and more into coins that exhibit doubling. It can be a doubled die, strike doubling or an RPM (repunched mintmark). While I realize that strike doubled coins do not have the same value (as defined by "worth") as true doubled dies, they are none the less fascinating. They seem to be more plentiful than one might imagine, if you have the time and patience to look. The thrill of finding one of these coins in

Re: First Spouse and Mint

May not be fair but they do it All of the Shopping channels and some dealers have subsciption lists that any one can join. The subscribers buy the coins from the mint and sell them back to the dealers and or shopping channels at 10% above mint cost. I myself have be asked to join on more than one occasion. First Spouse and the Mint

Only one set per family first week for TJ we will see It seems as the mint has been questioned by more than just I on their selling polices. MW and AA . If 5 sets was the limit than how did 567 MW end ed up on a popular TV shopping channel, the grade was not important to me. but to get 567 how many sets were processed?, 2000 maybe and they were ready to sell with in 2 weeks of release, 40,000 all options is a fair release for this type coin as i see it. In order hold its value

Can't help but wonder about this eBay auction

Although I'm sure it's legit, it just looked odd There was recently an auction for an unopened 1937 Proof Set. It ended up selling for a little over $3,500. What got my attention was the Return Policy. It stated that refunds would be given if the package was returned unopened. I'm sure that it was a legit auction, but it just struck me as kind of funny. How do you know if you have a decent 1937 Proof Set unless you open it? But then if it turns out that you don't, you can't get your money back

Intrinsic value

Or maybe I should use the phrase 'intrinsic numismatic value' as put forth by a colleague (zoins) on the NGC board?   Buying a coin with intrinsic value depends on so many things, and the numbers of coins extant, to me, is one of the most important. Why? Because if there are only 23 extant, I'd be terribly pleased if it was originally toned, never wiped and grade almost irrelevant, but XF to AU would be perfectly pleasing to me, And if the price is good, you KNOW you're getting a real bargain,

The things that happen

in EBay I had something similar happen to me a few months ago. I was bidding on a 1946-D Roosevelt dime in an NGC holder. I won the bid, and wrote down the cert. number, to look up later. I just happened to check the listings again, and the same coin was for sale, worded the same way, same guy. I shot a quick e-mail, asking how my coin could still be for sale. I was assured he had gotten the pics mixed up, he had a few different ones for sale. I got the coin, no prob. I wonder if I caught a po

My search of the Jefferson dollars

I have too much time on my hands I went to the local bank a obtained 50 bucks worth of the Jefferson dollars on the 16th. The Jefferson coins seemed to be of higher mint quality than the Washington coins. I took 10 of the best and sent them into NGC for grading. I think I may have one 67 in the group. Out of the rest my guess 2 ms66 and the 6 ms 65 and maybe one will come back damaged in a bodybag. My my report back on the 56 president proofs coins that I sent in for grading. Washington

PEACE

Newest addition! ___Well today I received the newest addition to my Peace Dollar Collections. I'm not really a big fan of Peace dollars. I can remember growing up in the 1940's and 1950's and seeing Peace dollars. I always perferred the Morgan dollar over the Peace. During this time, my favorite coin was the Walking Liberty half-dollar, and is still one of my most favorite coins. The eagle on the reverse just stands out to me, and makes me think of how strong the USA is!

Peace On Earth

For tonight at least in my little corner of it. The day or should I say the night that I have been waiting for has arrived. Tonight, not more than two hours ago, I won my 1928P Peace Dollar in an E-bay auction. I was bidding on three of them Two AU58's one NGC the other a PCGS, and an NGC MS61. I was using the AU58's as backups but I wanted the mint state real bad. I was out bid on the MS61 earlier in the day but that was before the bidding got serious. I pick the max I would go up to and wait

Mailed off another submission

This is a fairly big one I just sent 42 coins for grading this morning. I guess I'll know in about two weeks whether or not that was a good move or not. (2) 1999-D Mint Sets (Quarters only) (2) 1999 Mint Sets (Quarters only) I'm hoping for an MS70 Delaware, and I've got 4 shots at it. All of the quarters are beautiful. 2002 Silver Proof Set (No quarters) 2004 Silver Proof Set (No quarters) 2005 Silver Proof Set (No quarters) 2006 Silver Proof Set (No quarters) For me, this is a
