You won't find a smooth edge presidential proof
Unlike the presidential business strikes, which are made with a 2-strike method, the presidential proof coins are made in a single strike process in which the edge-letters are added at the same time the obverse/reverse designs are added. As such, it isn't possible to find a presidential proof that has 'accidentally skipped a step' in the process and avoided having the edge-lettering added.
Even so, I wonder if we'll see people trying to remove
They're in! I got my 3 (one for each kid) now the question is...
What are the errors to be looking for? I thought I had a smooth edge Washington, but after getting it in the right light, I did see the letters. Has anyone heard of any errors yet?
2007-P-MS-67-FIRST DAY OF ISSUE JOHN ADAMS PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR
Yesterday I purchased in a private transaction(NOT CHEAP) the only 2007-P-MS-67-FIRST DAY OF ISSUE JOHN ADAMS PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR ON THE PLANET.
How rare do you think this coin is? Lets take a look.
This coin has been out for 3 months now. There is a total of 4138 coins grade in all grades to date.and only 1 MS-67FD.
In the same 3 month period for the Washington dollar we had 13,532 coins in all grades with 32-MS-67FD still
Today my point total was adjusted.....
And the total points INCREASED. I would like to know which items changed but I don't know how one finds out. Other than knowing what each coin point total was previously, I don't see any other way to know.
Does anyone have any ideas?
They are both going
Well, I have decided to sell both my Merc Dime sets. They will go on ebay tomorrow, and I will post the item numbers, in case anyone is looking for a set. One set has a certified 1916-D (PCGS 0-3)a certified 1941/42-P (ANACS VF-30), and certified 1921-P, and 1921-D (NGC AG-3). The rest are average, to above average circulated condition. The other set is the same, except there is no 1941/42, and the 1921-D is PCGS AG-03 instead of NGC AG-3. I have decided to put more of my e
I did really well this time.
Maybe I'm starting to learn a thing or two. Or, maybe (and more likely) I just got lucky. Anyway, here goes. I submitted 3 Clad Proof Sets w/o the Quarters. 2000, 2001, and 2003.
The 2001-S Lincoln came back PF69 RDC
The 2000-S Kennedy came back PF70 UC
The 2001-S Roosevelt came back PF70 UC
The other 12 coins all came back PF69 UC. Oh, the other two Lincolns were PF69 RDUC
All told, I'm pretty happy about this...
Next, I'm going to send in some 1999 an
Just received!
Dear Journal,
....Well today I received my current order back from NGC. I said to my self, self, why do people get upset with NGC. Self said, NGC is made up of human people who make mistakes, and will admit to it and correct them. People don't know how to react when someone admits a mistake.
....The first part of my order is two coins for my Canada Aviation Series. They turned out great. Looking at this series, I don't see any coins that are going to be hard to get. The
got the right look
I have been searching for a nice 1840-O no drapery quarter for a while and finally nailed one I like the look the wear but still plenty of detail. I think it has got it all and it is another coin off my list...
A beautiful 1901O Morgan Dollar
My wife totally surprised me this year on my birthday. The lady that always says ?NO? every time I mention the word coin, bought me this beautiful MS 65 Morgan Dollar. I was expecting to receive some socks, a pair of paints, or a shirt that would never find its way out of the closet. I never thought I would receive a gift that was this nice. I just want to thank her with all my heart for such a wonderful birthday this year.
I hope that everyone that reads this
Check your 2007 proof sets before your 30 days are up to return them!
I just open my package from the Us Mint only to be very upset!
The coin lenses made this year are very poorly manufactured.
some of the lenses are cut unevenly leaving a sharp edge and also some of the lenses are coming apart exposing the coins to it's worse enemy (AIR)!
I'm sending them all back for a replacment this morning and I'm going to keep sending them back until they get it right!
The US Mint is really goi
Fingerprint on proof coin
I had to send back one of my sets as well with what seems impossible, the Lincoln cent obverse had a fingerprint on it. The Mint states that proof coins are not handledwith bare hands but I know a fingerprint when I see one, so please check your coins as the Mint is producing more coins than they can handle with the same quality controll as in the past.
Coin pic for fun.
This is one of three coins I won in the Sheridan Downey auction which finalized at the Milwaukee ANA World's Fair of Money. The story is that these coins were in a vault, untouched, since the Civil War. Purchased in a probate sale by Chuck Erb, and then later passed on the Brad H. of the BHNC.
Silvery grey patination with underlying luster, these coins are currently raw. I will have them certified, not for the reason of grading them, rather, for their protection.
I can only place the photo
Won my largest lot of coins by count yet, all in one year.
I decided that for my year sets, I would focus on my 2004 proof set, partly because I had won a clad pf70 dime early on, and I built up around that. I did have a setback after winning a flawed PF70 silver dime, which instead of sending back to where I got it, I sent it to NGC instead, which set me back about as much or more than I paid for the dime in the first place. My favorite coin so far had been the Sac Dollar coin, but I'm digres
6/12/07 to 8/12/07
Well I've been on the registry for 2 months now. I've gone from having 1 set for 5 certified SAE's to having 11 sets, 21 certified coins, 6 more certified coins on the way and constantly building up. I initially thought I'd just sit back and watch but I ended up being rather vocal (in a written sense) in the journals and the forums.
Thanks guys for building a great online community which I'm happy to now be a part of.
Since I joined the registry has grown by about 100 a
Its in the Modern tier so I feel Pretty safe
Seven American Silver Eagles and the three 1994 U.S. Veterans Commemorative Silver dollars. I have done well in the modern tier and I hope it will continue. I won't even think of any actual numbers. That would be a sure jinx. I am starting to gather Peace dollars and am going to try a more daring submission. There are a couple of coin shows comming up in my area that I will be checking out. Due to some past experiences I won't be getting any thing t
Went to the show on Wednesday
My son in law and I went to the show on Wednesday. This was the first big time show for either of us. (It was only an 1-1/2 hour drive).
The show was neat with most of the large dealers there and lots of top end coins to look at. Prices asked for nicer coins were definitely higher than the Redbook and CW trends. The availablity offered was amazing. You could find pretty much any coin, one could be looking for.
I did pick up a couple of new additions for my typ
What to do.
So I bought some proof set adn Ilike my chances on a few of the coins in the 5 coin sets. How can I safely remove them to avoid the cost of grading all of the coins in the set and just grade the ones I want to. If I send in ten sets and only want to have 15 coins graded because I can tell the others are not up to snuff what should I do?
long overdue
After reading several posts of my fellow collectors bewilderment over their points dropping I started looking at my coins. The verdict?--I'll be dropping some too and I say it's about time.
I own 7 PF70UCAM modern $5 gold coins, not because I sought to collect them, but because I got them for just a little above the gold value--around $200 each. I still look around occasionally for a chance to pick up another 70 for $250 or less.
The reason I brought this up is my 1986 Statue
Please tell me they are through now
This points conversion is killing me. This week alone, I have lost 14,000 points and a hundred spots in the rankings. I hope we are now through with the points conversion. I never have collected to be the best or the highest rank but, it was still nice watching the points build up and the increase in rank and now I feel I have fallen off the mountain. I hope it is over for a while.
I've lost 6,000 of them, I know for a fact that they change
With the new and "improved" rating system, I have lost 6,000 points in one week. I have not removed a simgle coin from my collection yet I have gone from 75,000 to 69,000. My rank has not changed except for in the overall standings as only the Modern Commemoratives took a massive hit. I lost over 20 spots in the overall ranking.
Seated Half Dollars!
Seated Half Dollars are one of the most under rated series in numismatics today. Especially, the Seated No Motto Halves which you can never seem to find and will be one day ten times more expensive than they are today. When can you buy a coin that only has 2-10 coins better and not pay an outrageous amount of money for it. But, they have come along way since 1966. I looked in one of the Red Books from 1966 and a No Motto half in mint state was only $55 and a With Motto hal
